I think it's more about the ecosystem and us as users believing one "way" of doing phone OS and hardware is superior to the other. Chances are, if you have an android phone you're buying an android tablet, using Google Messages & other apps (chrome, Gmail, etc). It's not brand loyalty, it's a stance on how we interact with our most used tech daily. (That being said I'm switching back to iPhone after 8 years on Android 😅 Apple. Intelligence has a far superior trajectory than Google's AI).

I switched from an iPhone XR to an S22 Ultra. I never had more than one Apple product at once, so I was never in their ecosystem. Honestly, Samsung's transfer software makes switching from iOS ridiculously easy. The only real pain point was getting people I know to re-setup their iMessage contacts to use my phone number instead of my iCloud account. Otherwise it's been smooth sailing and loving the new phone. There's almost nothing I miss from my old phone (other than the physical mute switch) and my new one continuously surprises me with all the stuff it can do and customize.

I wound up with an iphone 13 pro after having data\modem issues with a pixel 6 like many others, and while I didn't hate it, managing things like notifications and navigation just annoyed me. I took a chance with the pixel 7 due to generous trade-in deals for the pixel 6, and I'm glad I did. No data issues, great battery life and quality feel. While the iphone is a great bit of hardware, the software side left me unimpressed. Also Android Auto is so much better than car play IMO.

I miss t9 dialer, youtube pip, google maps pip, 2 app multitasking, a proper notification area, camera zoom that could even zoom in on the moon, s-pen, double tap power button for camera, fingerprint unlock, better signal quality for tmobile, all my apps that don’t exist here, 5 across on dock 6x5 on home screen, strong flash, strong flashlight, usb c, fast charging, google assistant, voice activated camera, gesture activated camera, a dialer that doesn’t integrate whastapp, better copy and paste, better selecting phone numbers, seeing what number called me instead of just seeing contacts name when multiple numbers,

Nice breakdown. I appreciate you taking the time to list everything. I'm trying to weight it all myself right now, Pixel vs, iPhone. I would probably stay Android with Pixel if I didn't need to be familiar with iPhone for work purposes. My main complaint on iPhone is the notification system. Selecting text to copy or edit is also really bad. So much easier on Android. And yes the call log / history isn't great. I love how Google does a reverse lookup on any number you call (mainly businesses) so you can then have caller ID name & number for any outbound calls you make that aren't saved contacts. Call screening is nice as well. The more I type this the more I want to put my sim back into my Pixel.

Most of the times, when I decide to switch from one OS to other is mainly because I get bored and I kinda want to try something "new" (even when at this point both OS are really polished). There's a bit of fun in that! I used to be an Android guy, but switch to iOS when the iPhone X was announced. In the process, I got the chance to try the Samsung S20 Ultra, S21 Ultra, and now back to an iPhone 14 Pro Max, and since I use an iPad to draw and make musical drafts, AirDrop has been pretty useful. With the Pixel watch and upcoming Pixel tablet, Google seems to FINALLY be catching up to Apple so I know there's more I'll be able to enjoy if I stick with Android. The problem is, I'm the only person I know (save one or two) that actually uses android - everyone else in my life is on iOS and I'm beginning to feel like an outsider. @@lxnd I made the switch to Apple shortly after I posted that comment and I honestly still miss Android but I think it's because it was the first and only OS that I ever used and did so for 12 years across a variety of phones. I was there for all the "growing pains" as it developed over time and left JUST as Google was finally getting their formula right with the Pixel lineup between the Pixel 7, Pixel watch and tablet. No, none of them are as refined as their Apple counterparts and that "second to none" ecosystem but they're great options for the everyday needs of most people. I literally have ONE person in my life still on Android and I took a deep plunge because I got the iPad Air and Apple watch SE so there's (most likely) NO going back now that I'm neck deep in their ecosystem. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Switched from Huawei P30 Pro to iPhone 14 Pro, basically to conclude that the P30 Pro is ridiculously good, especially considering it's almost 4 year old technology. The main reason I bought the P30 Pro was the camera unit. I had the Fuji XT-system but wanted something smaller for my travels. And boy, the P30 Pro delivered BIG time, especially when you pushed the boundaries (low light, and not even using the famous night mode). It was a breeze to use and had the best and most consistent battery life I ever experienced, and fast charging. So far, I see that the 14 Pro has really good software, fantastic battery life, and Face ID is just brilliant. Cameras are great in daylight, but I expected too much of it in harder circumstances. It sort of squeezes everything out of its cameras by using pretty advanced and agressive software, at the cost of transparency. And tele? 2x and 3x zoom, come on... I somehow really wanted to be more impressed hardware wise, especially for 1460 euros (256GB). Might consider something from Google or Xiaomi, just to see what it's like.

@@lxnd It's been good. I find everything just "works" e.g. seamless integration with my MacBook and other Apple devices. Things like Bluetooth just seem better too. The device just feels more premium too - build quality, speakers, camera quality, screen etc. The things I'm not a fan of are : - Lightning cable rather than usb-c, but apparently that's changing with the 15 - Stingy iCloud allowance - you get 5GB free which after your phone backup is on there doesn't leave much room for other stuff. Google gives you 15GB for comparison. You have to pay a monthly fee for more with apple. The keyboard - it just sucks. I've installed gboard on this phone. No "silent" mode. I always had silent on my android so I would still get notifications but just no vibration or sound. iOS doesn't have that - the closest I've got it a personalised "focus" setting (basically do not disturb) but it's not quite the same. Things that feel pretty much the same: Battery life - nothing special on this phone compared to my old one, even with the efficient chip - however it might be down to the fact that this phone is just higher spec My advise would be to wait for the 15 pro if you can afford it. I'll likely be getting it when it comes out too

I switched from a Pixel 6 to the iPhone 13 mini in February of this year. Literally the first time using iPhone. The transition, like you pointed out, was very tedious and annoying. After that was out of the way though, it has been a decent experience. The main reason I switched was because I couldn't stand the amount of bugs the Pixel 6 had when it came to things like the fingerprint sensor not working, random network drops, WiFi not working on occasion... Now after using iPhone for a fair amount of time, I'm switching back to Pixel 7 and probably won't switch back to iPhone. There are too many things I miss. One of the most major ones is call screening on Pixel. I also have a large music library of old CDs that I'd ripped which are very annoying to transfer to iPhone and it seemed to throw up region errors for me which made no sense since I literally own the files. Another issue has been downloading PDF documents from any browser besides Safari. My everyday work requires me to occasionally download documents to read on my phone and I found this to be very annoying when using Chrome on iOS. The notification management is also pretty bad with old notifications seemingly staying forever even though they have been dealt with. In general, it's not a terrible experience, but I feel quite cheated considering I paid more for the iPhone 13 mini than my Pixel 6 but still somehow got a worse experience. Also, the iPhone seems to randomly switch from WiFi to cellular which doesn't happen on my wife's Pixel in the same house. Overall, I don't think iPhones are as refined as they are touted to be with Android simply providing well thought out features and better overall UX.

It's basically the same story for me. My first and so far last iPhone was the 3GS and I've been a Mac user for the past 10 years or so. In the Android world I used so far the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 and a OnePlus 6T. Google assistant is great and I do cast a lot too but for some reason I wanted to switch back for some time to try something new. I intend to keep my OnePlus 6T on my second Sim card and use an iPhone 14 Pro Max. One of the many reasons is to get an update at the tike of release and a flagship phone. On Android I've got too much choice and that's killing me. I like both but as you said Alex it's a nice change. Once I can get my hand on an iPhone I'll make the switch.

Apple is just too "closed" an ecosystem for me. And I don't believe "security" is the main reason for this. If Apple were really serious about "security", they would incorporate RCS into iMessage to allow end-to-end encryption for ALL text messages, not just Apple to Apple devices. Converting text messages to SMS/MMS (which is not encrypted) subjects users to possible hacking, especially when it comes to Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) codes. Apple knows this, but refused to do anything about it because, at their own admittance, "it would hurt iPhone sales." This statement shows EXACTLY where Apple's priorities reside, and it's not with "security!"

@auralplex

@@anmol3457The developer cannot customize each and every app for the hundreds of android phone models that exist. With iOS, all iPhones use the same GUI so they only have to make one version. Apple is strict with their apps and requires a certain level of quality that Google does not require. The Apple experience is that of an extremely refined and smooth process. Everything looks amazing and works well and there are virtually no glitches. Android always will be a step behind because the software and hardware are made by different companies and the OS can never be perfectly optimized to the hardware. That is why iPhones have smaller batteries but almost always last longer than Android phones with bigger batteries. Apple understands that balance is important. Android phones aren’t bad, they typically have 1 or 2 standout features, but are mediocre in everything else. With iPhones, you mostly get it all… you feel the refinement when you use it, and unless you have used an iPhone, you wouldn’t know.

Emulators although they run really well on apple products are more of a hassle. Altstore is a thing but you need a mac or some luck with a windows pc to even activate that. Certain things like the way typing is also better on android. Safari sucks and even tho chrome is on iPhone it’s just a skin since apple doesn’t want any other browsers truly independent. For me the service has been worse than android and iPhones having the highest amount of radiation which interferes with cellular reception as well as being toxic oddly google pixel is another offender and Samsungs have some of the lowest amounts of radiation which is also why the reception tends to be pretty good. I can go on and on though. I've only dailied Android and one Windows Phone for the whole time I've had a smartphone (about 10+ years). The thing that's drawing me into iPhone now is the fact that I've never been able to keep an Android for longer than 2 years without lag, problems, glitches, and no support from the manufacturer. I've got a 2016 iPhone SE that I bought second hand 3 years ago for $120 that was supported until the end of iOS 15 and 7 years later, it somehow runs smoother, better, and much more reliably than any of my Android phones, including my 2019 LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen! I've heard that you can get 8 years out of iPhone and being on year 7 with a budget one that's more functional than even my current Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 (which runs like crap btw) is absolutely ridiculous! I just can't justify buying an Android anymore because I want good performance, but all the good flagships cost the same as flagship iPhones but with Android, you're getting 2 maybe up to 4 years of life out of it if you're lucky. If I'm spending flagship money, I want to keep that thing as long as possible and have it work as smoothly as it did new when it's 5, 6, 7+ years down the line

The Apple ecosystem is great if you use more than 2 devices that can work seamlessly with each other. However, that can't be said if you only want to use an iPhone with a Windows PC or a Mac with an Android phone. It's just a mess. The lock-in is real when you have to spend more than 5 grand for everything to work well and not as a standalone product. Most will be reluctant to switch even if they hate the experience.

@@NegyedMisi what about the performance on macbook? Till you are not an iOS developer using macOSX (that too because iOS development can be done only on apple products unlike android) Macs don't stand a chance. If you don't need performance and need a good battery, use a Samsung tab, the dex mode is amazing and battery lasts long. If you want a laptop then for the fraction of the cost you can get a more powerful Laptop. Macbook air heats a lot and pro is extremely overpriced. They don't get OLED and even on non OLED, give low refresh rates at 60hz. Yes M series chips are 5nm chips and all but they are built on ARM64 architecture and other laptops are built on X86 which is better for heavy works, wether it is gaming or using Adobe, other laptops out class macbooks in every area. MacBooks are sold solely due to iPhones. (Progressionals don't use final cut Pro so don't go on about it. And normal users don't even edit their videos and if they want to edit slightly just used da vinci or something else), windows and Linux have a much larger base for apps and all as well. Samsung link to windows works really well because of Samsung-windows partnership. Samsung buds are better sounding and Samsung dex mode is amazing with televisions. Samsung has partnered with social media apps as well, not that I care, and Samsung dex tablets are just more of a replacement for a laptop than an iPad has ever been. Not to mention it has better display for entertainment. And M1 iPad pro is not optimised dor it and gives similar performance to a A bionic. Not to mention Snapdragon has better gpu. All in all same performance with better stylus. Ibis paint and sketchpen are available for both. Not to mention with the help of vm you can run windows artist related apps on Samsung..But not on apple. Yes mister ecosystem. How does it feels to be ignorant? This means that glancing at your phone won't make you believe you have a new notification when it shows you a 3 days old notificstion On the other hand, when you pull down the notifications screen from the top of yhe screen with the ohone unlocked, it will immediately show you all the notifications that are sitting there, just like on Android

I'm in the same boat. Been on Android but for me, the last 9 years. Was actually waiting to upgrade my S21 Ultra to the S23U, but caved and decided to give Apple another try with the 14 Pro Max after a 9-year absence. I've been thoroughly pleased with the phone and experience so far and honestly, the only real thing I miss from Android is the ability to set individual volume levels (notifications, alarms, ringer, media, etc). The main two things that stand out for me, are the shocking level of control you have on iPhones. I was able to or had the ability to, delete or disable almost all of the stock apple apps/features, something you can't do on Android with stock Android apps/features. This was hilarious to me as Apple for the longest time had you pretty locked down on what you could and couldn't do. whereas Android was known for its control and customization aspect. Seems as though we're going through a role reversal. The other is the overall look and feel. Android to me over the last 3-4 versions has become this boring dull interface with flat, vibrant, primary color icons with no real design or complexity. I may be the minority here, but it feels too kiddy/cartoonish and basic at times. Whereas iOS 16 (at least) has a more refined and polished feel. Again, another role reversal.

It may looks like a small things but it's the first thing I do once or everytime I pick up the phone. It's some much easier for android. Though IP14 pro have that always on display but it doesn't look like it is better than android phones. The background is still to bright & it uses the 'Arial' text rather than 'Romans'. I don't play games so I don't really care about a faster chips. SD 8 series & above should be enough for me. Camera I would say a very tight competition from Samsung, Google Pixel & Huawei. The only thing I’ll be missing in the iPhone will be the innovative themes which completely change the phone’s outlook and the pinching small and large text capabilities of the messaging app. iPhone so far hasn’t provided any material change in those departments. My 3rd Galaxy S4 replacement randomly died while I was waiting for a flight in Detroit and never turned back on again. I’m really careful when handling my hardware….it wasn’t me, but activating an old iPhone 4S that worked flawlessly after 2 years of sitting in my car as a music player was a sign. I keep coming to the same conclusion unfortunately. I say unfortunately because I love the diversity of Android and having so many choices in camera optics, for example, or the rest. But in the end, I always go back to the iPhone for two reasons: first, iOS, which I find incredible to use. Also, because I am disabled, I need voice commands since it is much faster to speak than to write by hand, and much less tiring to talk to write rather than to write by hand. Unfortunately, I can never get voice commands to work on any Android phone except the Pixels. However, I found unfortunately for the pro in my case that the photo and video quality was not at all at the level of the iPhone, so I preferred to keep my 15 Pro Max, not to mention iOS, which for me is unbeatable in terms of pleasantness and consistency. I would love for the Pixel 9 Pro XL to surpass the iPhone in terms of camera; it would allow me to switch back to Android and have even better voice commands, but I find it hard to believe. Google certainly has the financial means to be on the same level as Apple, or even surpass them, but it seems that it's not in their objectives, or maybe it's too complicated for them, but I doubt it; they are surrounded by some of the best in the world on their teams. I feel that the 16 Pro Max will probably be a better phone in every way compared to the Pixel 9, and I find that a shame. It is a shame because monopoly is never good for consumers and the more diversity that matches the best standards, the better it is.

Only reason I won't be switching from my s22 ultra to iPhone anytime soon is because of how open android is compared to iOS. On Android your phone is completely open to you. You paid for your device so you should be able to do what you want with it. Like we see in this video, even a simple task of switching content from WhatsApp is a massive deal. I do admire iPhones features and how smooth it is, but I'd rather have the freedom to download APK files, development options, themes, download movies, music etc. On iPhone there's not much you can do and your basically a prisoner of your own phone. Maybe I'll switch in the future but it doesn't look like iPhone will allow such things anytime soon. I enjoyed watching the video and the in-depth look into the new iPhone.

Don’t. It really is not worth it had a 13 for months I can’t wait to get a s23 ultra or another android shit I’d take a pixel again even if the battery is worse that’s how much I’m suffocating to death on iPhone lol.

iOS and Android developer here: on iOS it takes 2-3 times less time to write a feature than on Android. Google likes to complicate all the API, all the usage cases. Apple instead keeps it simple and sometimes with more features
