As a V30 owner, LG has stepped it big time. I am a HEAVY user and especially going from a V20 which uses replaceable battery I was afraid for the new change but man the battery is amazing! 6am to 11pm. Not even once have I reached under 20% props to the other phones as well.

You should not look at the video timeline, rather the clock (time) on the actual phone (because of cuts between scenes). We saw 3% first at 5:14 and the video ended with the clock reading 5:23 and still on 3%. So not 4 minutes but closer to 10.

Paying the full price for an iPhone is indeed not clever. I bought mine for less than 900 dollars as it was a showroom model. Doesn't change a thing. So I agree there. I heard that the Mate 10's poor battery life is due to some bug with Google services, but it was fixed in a recent software update. Could you redo this test with all the latest updates to each phone? I am currently considering the Mate 10 since the V30 is still not available where I'm from, and the S8/S8+ prices is kept the same in retail stores (no eBay/Amazon where I'm from either).

A music player with a white background uses much more power. Not saying that iPhone batteries are great or anything but it’s been proven that dark mode saves a lot in terms of OLED phones’ battery performance. And who uses their phones on full brightness anyhow? Have the phones apart from each other next time. Putting them together makes them super hot because they compete for the WiFi signal and that would greatly effect the results too.

Best battery test video so far, loved it. One thing to note though, is that for some weird reason Apple forces you to use a white-colored background on the music player, whereas for most android devices is black. On the iPhone X, you can greatly save battery by using Spotify or invert colors on Apple Music as OLED displays can save A LOT of battery when turning pixels off.

Ive been very pleased of my S8+ battery performance. I took mine out of charger today at 5.15am, now at 9.10pm ive got 14 percent left. I have BT, NFC, Wifi, cellular, sync and gps on all the time, screen at 75percent. Regular usage through-out the day and not once have i felt like i need charger before i go to bed.

You need to take into account that all the phones need to be set to the same relative brightness as opposed to setting it all to max. Some phone's have a higher brightness than others, thus using more battery.

The edge lighting on the note 8 n s8+ was on and continuous for the first hour while listening to music which I believe put them both at an obvious disadvantage... But still a cool video concept. I hope that u do it again where it's an even playing field.

This is one great revelation for me asa Note8 and iPhone 8+ user because LG V30 has the same 3300mAh battery that of the Note8. Well it's not a surprise that iPhone 8+ will be the first to die because even in real life situations like mine iPhone 8+ dies faster than my Note8. But really shame on Huawei for advertising and bragging their 4000mAh battery capacity for Mate10 yet Note8 outperformed them with a 700mAh less battery size. Thanks for uploading such kind of video! This is really educating for smartphone users especially high end smartphone users out there! More videos like this to come! I hope there's the opposite video for this one... From ultimate battery drain test I wanted to see a ultimate battery charging test of the same set of phones too.

I just watched a battery drain test from another channel, to my amazement the results were quite unusual and the method doing it was not fair. What I did? Looked for Xeetechcare's battery drain test and there i watch a fair battery drain test. Very good video. Keep it up Sir.☺

I saw in one video you got the A9 Pro the update to nougat, is possible to make another speed test on that phone? Also man the more important request, if u have 2 models of same phone, can u make a battery drain testing one with power energy ON and the other one with it OFF? You can make a simple test like play youtube till ran out the battery or so, just to see the benefits of Energy save in our lifes

When making these kinds of videos. Set every phone to the same level of brightness. Brightness level changes drastically when comparing different phones. Some phone screens can be so much brighter than the others.

Thats what makes the samsung phones lasting longer than the iphone x so impressive. He set all the phones to each of their max brightness. The samsungs max nit brightness is almost 1.75x as bright as the iphone x, and it STILL won by a decent margin. Its pretty impressive. On the other hand, the LG V30 seemed pretty bright and that was some impressive battery life.

The Samsung phones are actually not brighter than the iPhone X, if you take a look at the video at 2:50 you will notice that the Samsung phones' display are quite a bit dimmer than the iPhone X. If you check out the review of iPhone X's display on DisplayMate, it is said that iPhone X is able to hit >600 nits with the screen displaying full white, while Samsung claim that the Note 8 is able to hit 1200 nits, it is only able to do this while it's lighting up a small portion of the display, and the brightness of the display when displaying all white in an indoor environment is actually around 430 nits. www.displaymate.com/iPhoneX_ShootOut_1a.htm#High_Brightness

So in this case setting the screen brightness to the max is actually giving an advantage to the phones with a lower max brightness as it draws less power and penalizes the phones with brighter display. Also due to the nature of OLED display, displaying white colour content draws significantly more energy as compared to black, so in the first test of music playback the iPhone X is at a serious disadvantage as it used a white background as compared to the other phones while having the brightest display among them. I don't really understand the need to have the display on during music playback because nobody really does that.

Actually note 8 reaches around 500 nits. On the other hand iPhone X reaches 634 nits so yeah iPhone X was in disadvantage.

A minute in I can already see huge flaw in test.. iPhone X music playing with nearly all white screen (and brightness at 100%) in the app will use wayyy more battery to display the white with OLED vs the nearly all black on the others. Don’t really need to see the rest at this point as the test is bunk from the start. Also judging by the video the iPhone X brightness appears to be much higher than all the others. Brightness has exponential energy effect, 100% uses something like 2x more energy than 90%

Helmut Funke that makes no sense whatsoever. The LG is clearly much lower on brightness, and the screen is the single biggest battery drainer. Testing with very different brightness levels completely invalidates the test.

That makes sense. Different devices with different specs are tested with the same tasks. If a smartphone producer wants longer battery life than they can put a bigger battery in the device, shrink the screen etc. its up to the producer.

And the producers decided how bright maximum brightness is on their device (effecting battery life) But again: different devices, different specs. And by the way: the user can change so much more (background apps, screen size etc.).

The Mate 10 for one still needs major updates for stabilization including battery drainage, not to mention the fairly new kirin processor installed that needs it's own share of updates in android Oreo, considering that other phones like the Iphone 7 also were much worse at they're release.
