In my opinion, Najara is one of Xena's best antagonists. She is obsessed with Gabrielle, she is a skilled warrior, but what makes her dangerous is being a wolf in sheep's clothing, with a messiah complex. Second, it attributes everything that makes their voices. I am not a psychiatrist, but I dare say that she is schizophrenic. So, in addition to being a religious fanatic, she is an obsessional madwoman. That is, twice the problem. And only on the outbreak to endure so much blow, especially from Xena. I just think that they will have explored this complex and faceted antagonist in the plot of the season.

The writers threw her character under the bus and just made her "crazy" to vindicate Xena and threw away a really intriguing character in my opinion. I believe the Djinn really spoke to her and the only way i can justify her behaviour in this episode is she had been abandoned by the Djinn and that had unsettled her. Xena was extremely hypocritical calling her mad too when she was pretty much a borderline psychopath when she was the Destroyer Of Nations.

Even ignoring the fact Xena was killed off in the finale it would never work. too much time has passed and while I am not implying either of them look bad or are out of shape, Lucy Lawless and Rene O'Connor are both in their 50's, they are too old to pull off a role with that kind of physicallity anymore. If they ever do Xena again it will be a reboot with new actors, and not saying they should but even Lucy Lawless has acknowledged if it ever came back that is how they would have to do it.

Why is it OK for Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Harrison Ford which are all in their 70's to return to their action roles? That seems very sexist to me. A revival wit original cats is still possible if the people at NBC wouldn't be so crazy to think the main cast are too old. That's just a weak excuse from NBC. Lucy Lawless has said herself in interviews she would love to come back one last time and fix the ending of the series and hand the torch over. Whether that be a movie or a limited series on streaming, who knows? But it is possible!

I always felt the character of Najara was ultimately a missed opportunity due to the writing staff opting to portray her as a religious "fanatic". The idea of another skilled warrior with her own unique code and who had an attraction for Gabrielle was such a cool concept and its a shame they just finished up making her "crazy". I think the Najara episodes also show what a hypocrite Xena could be at times especially in the first story she appeared in. To condemn Najara's methods of trial and chance of repentance for those she captured countered with Xena's often judge and jury behaviour at times on the battlefield was a little rich. Also Xena herself was pretty much on the verge of being psychotic in her days as the Destroyer of Nations. Another reason i loved Najara was because she was played by the fantastic Kathryn Morris who added a real dimension to the character. Also a challenging one whose comments such as hurting Gabrielle being Xena's job were quite an uncomfortable truth at times. It's a shame they left her in a coma at the end of her second story with no resolution.
