I'm less than 4 months too old to be a millennial. 75% of my classmates in my grade were millennials. Xennial is a real thing. I can look at an address and know if it's on a north/south vs east/west road, what two cross streets it's between, and which side of the road it will be on without using an app. I know how the Dewey decimal system works, what a card catalog is, and how the different sections of a phone book work. I can read and write cursive. I can do long division. I also used computers for school starting in first grade, can read, add and subtract binary numbers, know the difference between a do while, while do, and a for loop when programming, have and used internet sources in the mid 90's for highschool for English papers. Talk about having a foot in two different worlds, but not really belonging to either.

I don't have a specific year as to when the generational war began, but sometime around the invention of the wheel. My argument for this claim is the newsprint articles dating back to when paper and pencil started being used by school children versus chalk and board which, and I quote: "...Children nowadays have forgotten the ease and efforts of our generation's time in school. Many students of today's world, if handed a rag, would not know how to wipe chalk from board. The paper waste and pencil carvings strewn 'round the schoolhouse and homestead..." And also "...Student's of this day and age mayhaps be so so weakened by the use of public transits such as the trolley. Children cannot walk the miles we had had to walk for now a few blocks within these children must sit and rest their weary legs and await this dirty nuisance known as the Trolley..." If I recall correctly these are from 1843 and 1909 respectively.

Gen X, and I got nothing but love the gens after me. . . But Boomers can go have a time out. They blamed us for everything that was wrong with the world the same way y'all catching it now. I get how times have changed and we need to change with it, and I've muttered some boomer phrases and IMMEDIATELY laughed my ass off afterwards. But yeah the hardcore Gen hate is tired as hell. Funny takes like this are what we need!
@jessicaharris1608
@jessicaharris1608 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that does seem to be the only way. Gen X, Millenials and Zoomers have to stick together cause we're all getting screwed by the Boomers. (It's such a refreshing change to hear my Boomer mother openly admit that her generation has screwed over the younger generations. She's a compassionate Boomer, since she actually listens to and respects younger people.) Seems a bit like when siblings argue and that's ok but when someone outside the family dares speak a word against one of our siblings we all team up and go bonkers on the outsider.
@myronaustin
@myronaustin 2 жыл бұрын
@@jessicaharris1608 I mean it's one thing when it's all in fun that's cool. . . But they try to blame the same stuff on the younger generation they stacked on our shoulders. When they voted for everything that we're seeing now, when they engineered everything that we're going through now practically. They worked hard to keep all of the stereotypes and animosity perpetually rolling forward. You hear them say "back in my day" and all I can say to that is "Well it's no longer YOUR fucking day is it?" MAYBE you should realize that we have to deal with everything else that you left behind. Sometimes I feel a little angry because Gen X is like the bridge between both sides and no matter how hard we speak out to either one they just overlook us also. We caught so much hell for being the MTV generation and so many of them that threw shade on us lived through that with us and they made it sound like they knew better so we didn't have to take up any real stance. We knew things were going to change and we tried to explain it to them and even show them, but instead of listening all they did was shush us and do whatever the fuck they wanted to do. It pisses me off to see the same thing happening to the generations after us. Boomers wanted us to grow up in their spitting image, but we didn't want that! So now they pushed past us to try and control everything around and after us. Honestly it also amazes me how some of Gen X will parrot Boomer hypocrisy and act like no one can do anything right while tripping over their own lies and bullshit.

@@myronaustin My older cousins are Gen X and my brother and I are Millennials. My compassionate Boomer mom has listened to us younger folks discuss our work situations, financial, housing, college cost, etc. issues and she believes us. She recognizes that what we're experiencing is vastly different than what she and my father's generation dealt with. She doesn't deny our experiences like other Boomers have been notorious for. I am exceedingly grateful for her attitude and pray to God that I can be that way myself when I am around younger folks.

Zillenials are the little brother that played with the unplugged controller. We are millennials but our older siblings have always treated us like a generation that wasnt born yet. And still do, this video is proof. Gen Z dont like us because early they felt we were apart of their generation, but quickly learned that is far from true. A lot of zillenials such as my self grew up around older kids born mid-late 80s. A zillenial will probably tell you the generational shift happened around 2010 when the gen z kids were old enough to speak for themselves. The 2000s a lot of stuff happened tech wise but most of us didnt enjoy it until we were older, like HS. I feel like millennials treating is like the little siblings zillenials tried so hard to prove ourselves to fit in with millennials we segregated ourselves from gen z too. We want to be recognized as the older gen because we pretty grew under you guys, but are too old for gen z because our grooming phase was in the millennial years.(we act like 80s kids to gen z at times) It was just a weird time to be born. This why we 96ers stay within our year solely.

@@SuperIsaiah The Generations concept developed from the shared experiences of groups of people as they "came of age". The Greatest Generation lived through both World Wars (and served in at least one of them). The Silent Generation mostly didn't serve in the 2nd due to being too young, but they helped on the home front and had to grow up quickly. They were also the Generation which helped to codify and embed things like the dissolution of the empires, social health and welfare systems etc... The Boomers were mostly children of the Greatest and Silent Generations. They had the advantages that the previous generations built and used it to improve their lives considerably. The Summer of Love, Rock and Roll and the Moon Landings all had a big impact on them They're one of the largest generations not only because of the Baby Boom, but also because the range of years that had similar influences was wider than any before or after. Gen-X grew up in the late 60s through to the 70s. They experienced the more lackadaisical approach to parenting as women's equality rose to the fore. Women were earning a wage and improvements in contraceptives and sexual health were allowing them to be more social. Electronics such as television, telephone, microwaves, freezers etc were becoming much cheaper and more common. Gen-X was also the main generation to experience the full impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The Xennial micro generation is a description of the people on the cusp of Gen-X (born late 70s/early 80s) and are separated because they are the generation who grew up alongside home computers. So while the hardware was built by Gen-X, most of the generation didn't really pay much attention to it and the day to day usage grew from the way the Xennials used it. They also came of age just as the Internet was becoming a thing. So while previous generations saw it as a distraction and the Millennials were too young to understand it properly it was the Xennials that were learning HTML and BASIC, building their own websites and linking them to their friends. The Millennials came of age at the turn of the Millennium, growing up as the Boomers were reaching the zenith of their careers. Much of their childhood was as the Boomers were pulling up the ladder behind them. So they're the first full generation to lose free/cheaper higher education, final salary pensions, lower cost/more comprehensive health and welfare services etc... They also came of age around the 11th September attack on the World Trade Centre. Gen-Z are the post WTC/War on Terror generation. As they're coming of age now it's a little more difficult to pinpoint what's likely to be the main influences, but the multiple financial crises and destruction of the environment are likely to be the main influences. As for Zennials, I'm not sure what big changes happened at the end of the Millennial/Gen-Z divide that would create a micro generation. I think that it's more a case that they want to be cool like the Xennials! 😁

The difference between Millenials and Gen Z’ers feels so weird to me cause like I was born in Jan of 04 and a good few of my friends were born between very late 02 to a bit after me in 04 and there’s a very clear line between us and the people that are younger than us even though we’re both supposedly in the same generation you know.

Well, even as a Gen z, 2001, myself, I still feel like I don't believe with the fortnite lads. Mainly because I grew up without WiFi.. and still don't have WiFi at my family's home. So I'm raised a taaad bit old schooled, but have access to Internet via phone. I feel like a mixed breed, like a zillennial, but then again. Idk. Idk what I am. I'm just vibin like the rest of those who don't understand their place
