Xenoblade 1 and 2 are both amazing games that have their own legion of fans. The games have cultivated to become some of the best RPG’s of all time. However, the question still looms for many people, which game is better? Each game takes the series to different heights and has their own unique style. Brandon, with his new master degree, tries to figure out which Xenoblade game is the “definitive” version.

The only time field skills were ever an issue for me in the main story was in the Spirit Cucible.

What about Nopon wisdom? Talk to 30 nopon + gacha RNG or wait 30 mins for the merc mission. field skill checks in Cliffs of Morytha that require you to climb up, check the field skill you need, then drop all the way back down bc you cant swap blades while climbing

Here's my criteria World design I give 2. I remember too many straight hallways in 1 with few open designs, I feel like the story, music and combat will be on the subjective side. Do you want simplistic story and combat that develops over time like 1 or a complexity that tests and challenges more? It flip flops for me. Same with the music. -I prefer the characters to 2. While Shulk has a nice family dynamic with his team as well as better voice acting and have more subtle designs, Shulks team, there's an arc with one then ends most of the time. While Rex's group had more style in designs and interwoven arcs through out the game. while having nice back and fourth with the blades with more style. Also I prefer Tora, Nene and Kino over Ricky. Same with the villains, I felt the gang of Torna felt more constant then the Mechon, also the betrayals of some characters and redemption of others just made it hard to keep track of sometimes. I do prefer fighting the villains in 1 over 2 as bosses because the shifting of who is a villain we're not fighting the same foes more then once like the torna gang. Graphics I might give to 1 DE because its a more polished version of 2's but if we're talking about the original 1 then I'd give it to 2 no contest. Looking at Shulk and Co in the wii/3ds version made me go, "people actually thought this looked good?" Character expressions and texture is important to me as well as detail. Did you leave out their expansions, Torna the Golden Country and Future Connected for another video or forget them?

This is a very very good answer, I agree with somethings you said, 2 does have some great character arcs and Torna is a good batch of villians. I left out Torna/FC as I just wanted to focus on the base game for each. Once again, really good reply!

It's funny how the things you disliked more about XC2 are the things my wife and I really liked and missed when we played XC1 (which we played second, with the version on switch) Blades added a fun "pokemon-esque" element to gameplay, and the gacha was a reason to keep playing (to collect them all) without stressing about real money transactions. Field skills also added activities to the vast open spaces that would also make us think about going back to later. As far as I remember they never locked necessary story content, so they were just fun extras. To each their own.

This is a really great video! Sums up what people love about the series and what each of the game's strengths/weaknesses are. 1 is my favourite: it's a combination of nostalgia, me generally preferring 1's strengths in story, exploration and pacing, and the fact that it has Riki (which actually makes it the only 10/10 game ever! Every other game sadly doesn't have Riki, the secret ingredient to a perfect game)

X1 on dolphin is a revelation especially with texture mods. Combat was extremely rewarding and the story flowed so effortlessly. Game is actually honest and not gimmicky.

Its xenoblade 2 for me, for the combat, i actually prefer xb 1 Story and cast as there more.... normal compared to the Golf gang of 2, but combat just feals like first 3 chapters of 2, as in shit with bearly anything in combat influencing youre chain attack, and nothing building upon one another

I found the xenoblade series because of smash! It wasnt a game i was interested in but my sister was asking for video game recommendations and she played as shulk quite a bit in smash so it was a no brainier. The day she got the game i watched her play it and was thrown off at the british voices, but i quickly grew a custom to it. The characters and the world had so much charm and seeing seeing Reyn hog all the glory in his introductory and seeing dunchad, sorry dunban. Then seeing Fiora! awwwww she made my heart MELT. I'd fallen so in love with the cast of characters not even 40 mins in to watching my SISTER PLAY. In that moment i knew i had to try it for myself, so once everyone had fallen asleep I stole the gamecard from my sisters switch and played it handheld under my blanket that entire night, its safe to say, I WAS HOOKED!

Xenoblade 2 does have timed quests, its only a few, by far not as many as 1, but they do exist.

Tbh I think that xenoblade 2 is better in just about every major aspect. 1 was revolutionary for the time, but 2 builds on that foundation in just about every way.

Wel in most ways it superior to the first game but there is one thing that is realy anoying that just make the hole thing not work for “ME” and that is that when you attack you can’t walk midway attacking and so doging is imposible whilst attacking and whilst walking you can’t attack

Since I was able to beat Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, but got stuck trying to give Pyra her favorite food, and thus couldn't upgrade the Fire skill enough, I'm automatically biased toward the first game. I guess that means I'm an idio--Oh, wait, you say that enough in your videos, so I wouldn't want to be accused of being a copycat!

Overall I prefer the first game to the second one, but both games are good Gameplay: Xenoblade 2 but barely. While I do think that Xenoblade 1's Gameplay has a much better and faster pace then 1's does and Shulk's vision mechanic is implemented very well. Two's combat is more complex all be it a bit sluggish, and while not amazing it does have a little more "Flash and Flare" that the first game kinda lacked. Although Gacha mechanics felt, and still feel very out of place. I also believe it forced itself on the player For example, at times during Xenoblade 2 you could eventually come across a Roadblock where you need a certain skill from a certain blade to progress. Didn't get the Blade you needed or didn't wanna use those blades? Too bad. Story: Xenoblade 1. Shulk's initial revenge tale evolving into something more over time to me and dealing with more abstract ideas similar to it's Xeno Predecessors Gears and Saga did, to me it was more engaging than Rex's tale. All though Future Connected sucked ass. Characters: Xenoblade 1. Xenoblade 1's supporting cast is some of the best I've seen in an RPG. Dunban, Melia, Sharla, Reyn, Riki, and Fiora are all very well written and likeable. It's a shame that halfway through the story, half of them lose their importance. Xenoblade 2's cast of characters to me are nowhere near as memorable and alot of them can feel a bit "Trope-y" if that makes sense. As for the Villains side, everyone from Metal Face/Mumkhar, Dickson when he betrays the party to the big bad Zanza himself are all entertaining villains. Where as Xenoblade 2...I feel the only interesting villain of the game was Malos. So between the two I much prefer the first game over the second one. If I had to rate them I would give Xenoblade 1 a either a High 8 or a Low 9 out 10. Where as Xenoblade 2 I would give a 7/10
