Finally got around to giving this a watch. I loved this scene so much and it brought a tear to my eyes when Ghondor realizes that N is his father and he said "you told me yourself to make friends"

The reason it's NOT a retcon is because in the base game we are told of the events my Mio (more precisely M's memories). Since M didn't witness anything before she arrived when the city was already devastated her impression of N's actions is different from what actually happened. The informations that we got in the base game were just M's opinion without her having full context. This scene in FR showed what happened before M arrived and therefore things that only N and Z knew in the base game Since the entire party from FR and Nael were long gone by then.

If you look closely in Ghondor's Path, the camera positions the scene in a way that it makes N look like he's stabbing Ghondor. But this isn't the case, as his son is holding his blade(11:54). Another tragic detail is that N is trying to withdraw his sword, but Ghondor grips it.

About the retcon claims: I too thought it was a retcon, but as someone suggested me it's very difficult to be a retcon bc FR was released too close xc3 and from the statues we can agree that pretty much of the plot was already written. Despite not being a retcon, it gives similar vibes as it's a completely different version of events and really change N, but many didn't understand why. We see clearly many of N's memories, even if it's through M, we see parts of it when M wasn't there, especially the part WHEN Z tells N to destroy the city (his first mission as consul N). Now we have 2 possible solutions, 3 if we consider poor writing (and with the many problems of xc3 I wouldn't discard this): N lies to M or M has access to N's memories. We can't fully explain the second option, but considering how confusing the Origin works it could be possible. That leaves us with a problem, why N would ever lied about that to M? Just to be hated by her? "oh yeah Z told me to destroy the city and I did it", it doesn't make sense for him to made up such a tale for no purpose and most importantly: N's consciousness wasn't broken yet, he probably breaks when killing the people from the city, because it's clear that it was the start of his path as a consul so there's even less reasons and contest for him to act like he act in FR, considering the lie part. even in the future he's commanded by Z, he doesn't make decisions unless he's driven by something like hatred for Noah. So we have 2 realities: Z orders N to kill Alpha or the City. Because these 2 events can't happen in the same time line, this is either a coincidence, when N goes to the City and finds Alpha (and reasonably doesn't tell M about it) or is sadly 1 of the few things that falls in FR.

Pretty sure the DLC goes out of its way to mention that Alpha would fade from everyone's memory. Makes sense it would change the context of the city scene as that is the main difference.

@@Vokoca I had no idea, I trust you with that bc I still have to play it a second time. This can change something definitely, but I remain on my previous thought about N bc it wouldn’t Change the memories but only Removing stuff from them.

@@bianks3916 well actually it would answer it completely. Z told N to destroy the city (and in doing so alpha as they're fuel for him). the parentheses are true, but you get the same message in xc3 with them removed

One thing I wonder is if when na'el is on the ground being like "grandad... help me..." is that actually na'el saying that or is Alpha trying to do a little trolling
