A part of me was really wishing that I would witness a miracle win. But realistically I knew it wouldn’t. And what did we get instead? Becoming an unfortunate witness to the most tragic decision ever seen at the game awards when it lost for best music which in my eyes, was a nothing but a crime of grand larceny being committed right in front of everyone so brazenly, knowing they are getting away with it. I nearly puked up the steak dinner I had just finished eating just minutes before.

Two things really held back Xenoblade from winning game of the year. The first is Nintendo's 16gb or less game size mandate, which caused textures to be lower quality, the biggest knock on the game. The second, is that fact that it has more gameplay systems and elements than any of the nominees, and thus, it makes it harder for one element to be imprinted into the voter's minds.

I do want to play it again, but the issue I have with it is that it just seems like a copy paste version of the 1st, and I just thought the first was okay.

Nothing boils my blood more than Elden Ring getting the W for music/sound design over XB3. As somebody who's put like 4,000 hours into FROMsoft games, I can say for a fact that Elden ring, Even though it's my favorite game of all time, actually has one of the weaker soundtracks of my top 10 fave games. Compare it to dark souls 3, which has the absolute best soundtrack in the franchise bar-none, versus Xenoblade 3 which before the game had even been worked on too much, had two flutes specifically made for the music and they created every piece of music around the flutes before anything else. While I personally believe that Xenoblade 2 has the best soundtrack in the franchise, there's not a single piece of music in the entirety of stray, GoWR, Horizon FW, Elden ring, or any other game nominated that comes even remotely close to The Weight of Life, A Life Sent On, either of N or Z's 2 themes apiece, or fuckin god forbid ECLIPSE HOMECOMING like Jesus Christ, did they even play the game or LISTEN TO THE SOUNDTRACK ON YT OR SOMETHING?! Elden ring sound design is great, but it's soundtrack is laaaaame. Nothing it's got comes even close to gwyn's theme, soul of cinder, Maria's theme, or any of the other fantastic pieces of music from the other FROMsoft games.

@@shreeanshmahapatra2313 2 things: 1st, I was tired as fuck when I typed this so I forgot that ER didn't win it. Even so, nothing in ER's soundtrack beats out SoC or Gael's theme from DS3 from both a compositional and a critical standpoint. I own the soundtrack of nearly every FROM game, including physical copies of DS3 and ERs tracks, and I'm not the only one that feels like Yuka Kitamura's best work came 7 years ago. Considering the simplicity of ER's soundtrack compared to everything else she did with FROM I can see why she left the company this year. Her magnum opus in the form of DS3's soundtrack was robbed in 2016 by Overwatch, of all fucking games. 2nd, that's even more damning evidence that TGA is bullshit. 3 notes.*3 fucking notes.* Is all GOWR had going for it. The soundtrack was also almost never actually utilized, as most of it was either balanced poorly with the combat/voice lines or was completely in the background of a scene. There were a total of 28 tracks for GOWR and 3 of them were good with one of those being excellent. Comparatively there are *ONE HUNDRED FORTY TWO* tracks for XB3, and over 40 of those are excellent with 5 or so being among the most beautiful pieces of music *ever* to grace the gaming medium. The developers even had made a pair of flutes and 8 songs for them before storyboarding even began, and made the whole story about the music. The two main characters own each one of those flutes, and music is an integral part of the story that literally moves the plot forward. The soundtrack for XB3 was so incredibly important that, when they finally put it out for a physical release, it sold out in less than an hour. I cannot stress enough how immaculate it is, it broke my heart that I couldn't get a copy but at least it's all on KZbin so I suggest you take a listen. When the lead dev of GoWR *himself* admits on stage as he gets the trophy that he doesn't know how they won the soundtrack award "with just 3 notes," you know they fucked up. But we won in the long run with Pedro Eustache. Absolute fucking legend.
