One of my all time favourite tracks from Xenoblade, or maybe any JRPG. The emotion in this track is just palpable, it is so beautiful! That melody is generational.

Thanks again for reacting to my request. This is one of my favorite tracks in the game. It has heavy featuring of the oboe, which is one of my favorite instruments. My mom used to play oboe professionally when I was a kid, and Xenoblade is a rare example of a game that heavily features it in a lot of its songs. Also, the area in game where this plays for the first time is an unforgettable moment in any playthrough.

Manami Kiyota finally I just KNOW you'll like her tracks, they're gorgeous She's amazing The Fallen Land is definitely one of my favorite tracks 19:33 Yeah DE used live recorded instruments And I think it was most likely their intention as it's mostly the same people in charge of the remastered tracks

“If you grew up with this one you probably like it more than the remix” Yeeeeaaaaahhh…. That’s about right. I really like a lot of the DE tracks, but when you fall in love with the originals any kind of change feels strange. A few songs I outright think the remake missed the mark on, but they’re rare, and it comes from that bias of loving the originals. An interesting conversation to be sure.

100% agree! It's funny, for me playing DE first then the Wii version after, the Wii version felt "off" and "flat", slightly lacking in emotion and way too "midi" for my taste. I love the actual orchestrated and emotional sound that DE has. DE's OST added a lot of new touches-some subtle and some more prominent-that are just missing in the Wii version and it made it feel awkwardly empty for me, like I was expecting a certain part of the song that just never came. Definitely backs up the idea/theory that you just end up enjoying whichever one you "grew up with" or played first. I'm sure if I played the Wii version first I'd prefer it :)

I played the original first but I actually like the newer version of the songs more, at least for the area themes. One thing I realized after Xenoblade 2's soundtrack was how the audio quality of the original wasn't the greatest. I love the live instruments and how crisp they sound. Now, I still prefer some songs in the original more, like Engage the Enemy, but I like having multiple versions and people can decide which one they like more. I like both soundtracks.
@bdk336

I definitely think there's a few where the original was better. In most of those cases it's a result of instruments that were very prominent in the original mix getting de-emphasized so their impact isn't felt as much.

I started with DE and only listened to the original compositions after the fact, but there were some tracks that stood out for their own reasons. I love the original final boss music for having that sick guitar reverb that just isn't present in the rearranged version. But then the rearrangement also gives much more clarity to the piano which I love. There's a fan remix on KZbin that combines both the original and remastered of that track specifically, and it's nothing short of euphoric.

The game did okay on the Wii, but was more of a cult classic, partly because Nintendo released it exclusively in a deal through Gamestop, who pulled some shady crap and made a false scarcity of the game, then repackaged new copies as used to charge what they wanted instead of MSRP, so "used" copies were going for $70-$100 instead of the $50 MSRP. The Wii version is solid and pushed the wii to its limits for the time, however, it hasn't aged as gracefully. The original artstyle leaned more toward realism. The DE version leaned more toward Xenoblade 2's more anime-esque art style while remaining faithful to the original character and environment designs. In terms of music, most of the original's soundtrack was more synthetic/MIDI. The DE orchestrated the majority of the songs and remastered the rest to a higher quality. Most folks would probably agree that the DE tracks are almost entirely on par with the originals, if not better. A few songs get argued, such as one that had some vocals added with some mixing changes, but I don't feel that anything in the DE soundtrack detracts from the package. I don't think it's even as hot a debate as some of the updated Monster Hunter songs, like how Zinogre's theme in World de-emphasizes the electric guitar, which kinda kills the mood on top of its World iteration not having that arrogant glare and neck crack gesture it would do in the older games. Then there's Rise's Valstrax theme compared to the original (the original is outright better, change my mind). But that's off-topic.

Xenoblade fought a huge uphill battle when it came out on Wii, Nintendo had no confidence in the project, a niche jrpg released towards the end of the Wii's life, and originally was not going to get a US localization, until fans petitioned really hard to get it, and 2 other rpg localized. Even then the game barely had any copies made. Despite all this, the game was a success, with second hand copies quickly spiking in value. Then after Xenoblade x sold decently as a Wii u game, and especially the success of Xenoblade 3d for the 3ds, Nintendo gave the greenlight for Xenoblade 2, which skyrocketed in sales, since then the series has soared into popularity among jrpg gamers
@AREAlhero
@AREAlhero 4 ай бұрын
It wasn't necessarily that there were barely any copies made, but that GameStop swooped up an exclusive retailer license to sell the game in the US. GameStop is notoriously terrible at stocking niche games if you don't live in exactly New York or California (in my region GameStop stores often receive two copies for the store if the game isn't projected to sell huge amounts), yet in spite of that word of mouth from both Operation Rainfall and people buying the game after - in addition to Shulk being the final revealed character for the base Smash Bros 4 roster - helped to make the series into the relative powerhouse it is today on the Switch.

Yeah, Monolith Soft didn’t exactly have the budget they have today when they made the original Xenoblade. Some of the original OST is still live instruments, but it’s mostly midi. I have the same thought too, that this is possibly what they WANTED the soundtrack to sound like on the Wii. A lot of the OG sounds a lot crunchier, and a lot of fans like how thrashy a lot of the electric guitar-led songs sound

Surprised people recommended you the og Night instead of Day, as I think there's even more of a difference between the 2 Day themes. Interesting that you mention the lonely sense of the DE version, as I'd say that difference is also more pronounced in the Day version. The og Day especially emphasizes that ensemble, not alone feeling as it progresses, and there are some changes in instrument choice. It's not as clean as DE, but I prefer the og Day, if only cause I have such powerful memories associated with it. How many hours must I have listened and had its mark imprinted on me. Well, you can hear it when you reach there in the game, since you can switch the BGM versions.

Having played the wii version first, I don't feel so much nostalgia for the original versions of the songs because they're all kept really close to the original. Its more of a matter of preference. Field music is all greatly improved in the DE version, I prefer them to the original, but the battle music, I prefer all of the original versions of the battle music, with the exception of Irregular Bound. DE version of Irregular Bound brings out the potential in that song that the Wii version couldn't.

The original Xenoblade 1 for Wii likely didn't have a big budget and it was meant to be a Japan-only release. The only reason Europe got it was because the president of Nintendo Europe (at that time) was a Japanese guy who was a huge fan of JRPG's. This game making it over in Europe along with The Last Story and Pandora's Tower is really only because this guy wanted them to come over. The US only got this game because they made it over to Europe and were cheap to port over along with there being a lot of demand for them. This is also why the voice acting for all these games is British, it's because Europe localized them. When they made the DE version for the Switch the franchise had already hit it big time. Also, the main reason the DE version is requested so much is because the majority of Xenoblade fans never played the Wii original. They aren't winners like me who started with the original. Now that I think about it, I'm probably among the first 10K players who beat English version of the game since I bought it on the European release.

Lifetime sales of the game in Europe are only like 200K.

@@julien827 Actually they already started working on Xenoblade Chronicles X not long after they finished. XCX was released in May 2015 (in Japan) and had been in the works for 4-5 years (might sound long, but all of the Xenoblade games that followed have used the same game engine that they made for XCX so the benefits of that long development cycle reach far beyond just that game. And they also used their expertise to work both on Zelda BotW and TotK).
