Sawano isn't known for Xenoblade X in particular, he's especially known for his work on multiple Animes like Attack on Titan, Kill La Kill, some Gundam Series, 86, and many many more. HOWEVER, while X released in 2015, the OSTs were done in 2012 and 2013, and Sawano's famous style was born from his work on X, the project he's been the most experimental with. It has 4 hours of OST all done by Sawano, and X DE will have new tracks, with one being teased at the end of the new trailer, but we don't know if it'll be Sawano again or not, I hope he will come back (or Kohta Yamamoto, Sawano's apprentice, because that would be a nice symbol). And no remastered songs in the trailers so far, so they probably won't remaster any (and there's no need to). The DE will have more story elements too, but it looks like it won't be like FC, but straight up more chapters, I'm so hype. Also, English is a germanic language, so it's only natural that some words are easy to guess. Also Also, under the "Xenoblade" are the katakanas for "zenobureido kurosu", so "Xenoblade Cross".

Early 2010s is definitely when Sawano's style was solidified (he had a number of works before that, but they are quite different imo, check out some Sengoku BASARA anime music). But I'd give far, FAR more credit to Gundam Unicorn (2010-) and Guilty Crown (2011) as the animes that came to define Sawano's mix of orchestral and electronic music, alongside XCX.
@N_X_TV12 күн бұрын
@Zero0mtk I mean yeah, other projects got an influence, after all a style is developed over time, so it's hard to pinpoint an exact moment where his style was born if you're not in the guy's head. But Sawano himself said that X was the basis of his current style, so I'll trust the man. And hus pre-X music does slap too.

Now that I think about it, that final fight was a huge reference to how skells affected the party's stats, making siren an indirect party member. And how TP worked. Wir Fliegen is a song that plays when you enter a state called Overdrive, basically a powered up state that lists for a certain time (unless you know how to extend it) and allows you to recharge arts way faster and do more damage. It overwrites whatever other battle theme is playing and only lasts as long as Overdrive does. Oblivia is an area theme for the area of the same name, basically a giant desert area with old ruins and destroyed mechanical parts scattered around. Most of the style of the music is pretty distinctly Sawano, if you hear anything he composes it all sounds pretty similar to this. A lot of people know him for the Attack on Titan soundtrack too

This song is connected to the Overdrive mechanic, which is basically when you're really dialed in in combat. One of the crowning achievements for the Xenoblade Chronicle series is the sense of scale. But Xenoblade X being the only *true* open world game in the series, it blows all the rest of them out of the water in terms of scale. At least in terms of actual playable scale.

The absolute most impressive thing about Xenoblade X that makes it feel so different from other open world titles is how crafted the world is despite being open world. Noctilum especially stands out for this. Environments use height and clever enemy placements to make finding a path for yourself interesting and surprising, there's remarkable visual diversity and purpose in placements of environmental pieces, and literally EVERYTHING is in-bounds unless you try to swim off endlessly into the ocean (but feel free to swim for15 minutes in the in-bounds direction and find a whole continent at the end).

The soundtrack was very questionable when it first came out (when you only saw game clips and hear some of the cringe lyrics), but after you get into the game the whole soundtrack works perfectly because it contributes to the game feeling like you're playing a sci-fi anime. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it, Xenoblade X is certainly the "weakest" in the series when it comes to expectations, however that's where plenty of people go wrong. The game might not have the strongest storytelling, lore or characters of the series compared to the numbered trilogy, however Xenoblade X surpases the rest of them in the part it set out to do in the beginning: Exploration and vibes. Never before has a game gripped me so much to just hang around it's main town or run around the 5 continents for hours on end without even aiming to fight anything, and I'm STILL entranced by this game and they wonder.

I completely agree. It traded narrative strength for gameplay strength (not necessarily on purpose or intentionally. We know there was plenty of cut narrative content). That said, if I can only play one game in the series, it would be X. I've played and enjoyed a lot of open world games, none had me as enthralled with the act of exploring a world as X did. And one of my favorite games ever (above X) is an open world game!

As to the comparisons to Xenogears and Saga, Xenoblade X is *much* closer in overarching themes and philosophies to Gears and Saga than it is to the Blade series, particularly in terms of existentialism, transhumanism, and what it means to be "human" in the first place.

If you have interest in Sawano's other work but don't want to dedicate yourself to a whole anime series, I might recommend watching Promare. It's just one movie, so it's pretty easy to get through, and it has one of Sawano's best soundtracks.
