I finished Xenogears for the first time on January 1st (2024)! What a game... Too big, too large, too out there, too smart, too much... They really needed four CDs to do it justice. Absolutely incredible game.

And then it was supposed to be a sequel to Chrono Trigger but became its own thing. You can see a lot of similarities like multiple timelines, the floating high tech city, even the 3 sages with the exact same names. Really, the story boils down to, "What if HUMANS were the children of Lavos?"

I absolutely fell in love with the game out of the gate... it hit all my sweet spots, JRPGs, Mecha, awesome characters... and then I hit the second disc. And It was just so disappointing I've never gone back to it, all these years later, but somehow the soundtrack has lived in my head for 20+ years.... and this just playlist really hit me hard today hearing it, how much time has passed and how much things have changed. I think I might finally need to replay it.

Lyrics for the opening and closing songs: Stars of Tears: 0:00 [Verse 1] Your fingertips moving gently to my heart The force of life goes on and on The song remains like a haunting melody Of angel music held in chains [Chorus] And I ask you Can we ease the pain of those who lost? Can we know the cause of all this sorrow? Can we catch the tears of a broken world Falling down upon the earth, falling down? [Verse 2] The waves of time take me deeper into you A haze as blue as Summеr skies And turn to find the key will not unlock thе door This broken bird, away it flies [Chorus] And I ask you Can we ease the pain of those who lost? Can we know the cause of all this sorrow? Can we catch the tears of a broken world Falling down upon the earth, falling down? Small Two of Pieces: 1:12:44 [Verse 1] Run through the cold of the night As passion burns in your heart Ready to fight, a knife held close by your side Like a proud wolf alone in the dark With eyes that watch the world And my name like a shadow On the face of the moon [Chorus] Broken mirror, a million shades of light The old echo fades away But just you and I Can find the answer And then we can run to the end of the world We can run to the end of the world [Verse 2] Cold fire clenched to my heart In the blue of the night Torn by this pain, I paint your name in sound And the girl of the dawn, with eyes of blue and angels' wings The songs of the season are her only crown [Chorus] Broken mirror, a million shades of light The old echo fades away But just you and I Can find the answer And then we can run to the end of the world We can run to the end of the world [Verse 3] We met in the mist of morning And parted deep in the night Broken sword and shield and tears that never fall But run through the heart Washed away by the darkest water The world is peaceful and still [Chorus] Broken mirror, a million shades of light The old echo fades away But just you and I Can find the answer And then we can run to the end of the world We can run to the end of the world Run to the end of the world
