Attacking first does not make something a free attack. If something attacks first and doesn’t kill the target then the target attacks back. Great game though!

53:50 the way you describe the defender it can take 3 damage instead of whatever. I believe the correct effect is it can redirect 3 damage to itself from another unit, the other unit would take any remaining damage from the attack.

33:30 I believe you used the rifle incorrectly, you used it for a free attack rather than dealing damage first.

42:00 when player 2 used the field medic he can use the special ability, also the stim pack, each time you could heal 2 damage on a wounded trooper. unless I've read the special ability wrong it applies to any time a medical effect happens.

Rules error at 1:09:22 The Bile Slug burns the card so it couldn't be put into the enemy line by the brain scorpion. It's one of the few times that enemies actually interfere with each other.

You still get an attack when the swarmer first attacks. It isn't a reveal power, so after it attacks, you attack if you're still alive. It goes it then you, not it then both.

JonGetsGames Well, I'm no expert :P That's just how I interpret it and have seen it interpreted before. Ask the creators to make sure, but to me it seems it would work like your own spark rifle/stim pack things that let you hit first.

Good idea using dices to count damage... I think I'll still use health tokens to remember things, like division abilities, Ajax bonus to others troops, etc...

1) 5th turn - you bought 2 cards with total value of 6 with only 5 resources. 2) turn 7,8 - second player cannot participate in a battle not in his lane (use troop skills). He only can use cards from his hand to help his teammate.

+Ilyich Why can you not use abilities from your troops on another field? The troops say "...a troop" and "...a revealed enemy" but don't say "...in your lane." So unless it's in the rulebook somewhere that the people I have watched play have missed or I don't understand where you got that info. Also, upon re-watching, the turn 5 mistake also checks out because the left-hand player bought a weapon which he can get a discount of 1 resource once per turn when buying. Jon didn't announce that he was using that ability, which he probably should have, but he had used it enough times already that it wasn't that hard to see what happened.

Emil Nygaard Looks like I misinterpreted the Swarmer's first attack to be a bonus one in addition to normal. I'll mark the video, thanks!

Nice video. One correction - Items used on another player go in your own discard pile. Only stuff you deploy change ownership

Bluehawks 206 Hmm, at 33:48 I do indeed damage both the first 2 units in line. Is this the butcher attack you were reffering to?

Great video, Your description of Plague Fly (wave 2 mob) helps me a lot... But i think you've made a mistake with the Bile Slug (wave 3 mob) wich burns a troop if it damages it, not only if it kills it.... But this was a great playthrough.

Nykola I'm glad you found it helpful :) I think I only encountered it at the 1:05:45 and since it did 0 damage due to my med packs I think my Ajax was still safe. Are you refering to something else?

I see that this game is very difficult for a group to win. Can the "journey" be rewarding even if the ultimate destination might be defeat? I 'm asking this because I've played a similar cooperative game and the group lost. Everyone was disappointed and felt cheated by a board game. That is not a good feeling. With this in mind is Xenoshyft worth buying?

+Alice Moore It's hard to say, most co-ops are designed so that you loose them more than 50% of the time. This creates tension and a feeling of reward when you do win. This one is pretty long, so if you lose it may be after 2 hours of play which could potentially rub some people the wrong way. The journey is interesting and can be fun, but you can also find yourself feeling like you are slowly losing control and that the game is getting away from you but you still have many turns before it ends up actually beating you...and that slipping slope isn't that fun.

+JonGetsGames the mechanics look less convoluted than the other game. I would just have to tell the play group not to be intense. Having a pizza break before the 3rd wave may help as well.

you've found a good starting place, watch videos on game channels. this game he's reviewing is a decent starter game the rules are not overly complex and it's a co-op or solo game, also it's well designed. I'd recommend watching more videos to find a game that really grabs your interest.
