Linkin Park had hits of electronic music from the beginning, even in Hybrid Theory and Meteora.
@FranklinSoong6 жыл бұрын
It's not electronic, it called elements of hip hop and sampling. It sounds completely different from stuff from One More Light, which just sounds like generic pop.
@evanurena88686 жыл бұрын
Franklin Soong: Definitely agree with that and a lot of their older material before MTM had some of the best sampling iv'e heard in not only rock, but even in hip-hop. I still get major goosebumps whenever I hear the sampling from their Reanimation album as an example. One More Light definitely pales in comparison on a musical level and it is unfortunately the most generic release they have made musically. That's why it sucks that it ended up being Chester's last album.
@FranklinSoong6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, One More Light just simply sounds bland, generic, and resembles all the mainstream pop shit that was released in recent years. LP gradually removed the hip hop element (well, aside from Mike Shinoda rapping) that had a strong presence and influence in their first two albums from their sound, they went to a more electronic sound in A Thousand Suns and Living Things. However, although electronic sounding, at least those albums had certain elements of sampling present, and Chester's raspy vocals were still distinctive, which made the albums distinguishable as LP records. On the other hand, I can't even recognize a single aspect of LP in One More Light, which is pretty sad to see because they're still my favorite band.
@evanurena88686 жыл бұрын
Franklin Soong: I wouldn't say they gradually removed the hip-hop elements, they drastically removed it when it when MTM first came out, which is when I started to become a little disappointed with Mike and Hahn and where I thought they went downhill, but those albums afterwards are still leagues better then One More Light and their are a few tracks from each on the third to sixth album that I get down with personally. I always considered Chester to be strongest threshold of the whole band where he didn't compromise who he was and where I think he evolved the best out of everyone minus One More Light.

THey always used electronic elements on their music. It's really funny when they made A Thousand Suns people complained of being too poppy.

@evanurena88686 жыл бұрын
neomp5: I've listened to many of his recent raps and trust me, they are not on the level of what he did in the older days as in this track because it his later stuff sounds like an insertion of hip-hop cliches. Not to say that some of his recent raps aren't hardcore like Lift Off for an example but a significant amount of them are not as frequently authentic as Xero or Hybrid Theory EP.
@neomp56 жыл бұрын
in his xero days, he was focusing more on the rhymes than on the meaning. as he matured, he began to care more about what he was saying than how he was saying it. but there's noi shortage of gold coming out of him throughout his career when it comes to rhymes, be it "i have not begun", "bloc party", "running from my shadow", etc.
@evanurena88686 жыл бұрын
Xero i'll agree with, but definitely not from the Hybrid Theory EP to maybe Fort Minor period. I'd say "Part Of Me", Esaul demo and Forgotten are great examples of old tracks where he focuses more on the rhymes but doesn't take away any meaning and where in my opinion, makes the meaning more introspective and thought provoking. Not to say the examples you mentioned don't have their merit in some way, but the reason why I align more with Xero and the alternative style of Mike more because it's a style of hip-hop that more traditionally conformed hip-hop heads don't utilize very often. With his more recent music however, it's the opposite where he conforms to more traditional trends of hip-hop, which is alright if that's what your into, but I want to hear something different, strange, gritty, or unusual form Mike. That's why I love more recent tracks from Mike like Wastelands, Lost In The Echo, Bleed It Out, Animals, Lift Off or more of his rock/metal focused stuff as some examples.

Mike's young flow was dope as fuck. It's ironic how he wrote better verses than probably most of the songs in Hybrid Theory/Meteora, Don Glimore was a prick.
@evanurena88687 жыл бұрын
I bet Gilmore was probably one of the pricks that suggested not to have Mike rapping because it didn't fit the idea of a rock band. As he proclaims in the song Get Me Gone in Fort Minor, they told him to quit rapping and just play the keys. Sadly, he eventually caved into that compromise and mostly did just that. I miss the real Mike Shinoda like this, it really showed how talented he was not only in rapping but also as a lyrically profound emcee against other strong hip hop heads. Now his raps have become too elementary and simplified and he mostly just plays the keys and just sings/harmonizes along with Chester, which is a shame. So much wasted potential.
@al112v47 жыл бұрын
+Evan Urena The wole idea started even before Gilmore being chosed as a producer, Warner saw them as a Metal band with only Chester, and certainly that idea got stucked on Gilmore and tried somehow to sabotage the band from HT to Meteora (thankfully Reanimation was self-produced by Mike, you can clearly see how 80% of those remixes put the original songs to shame). Not saying HT was crap, but oh boy, they're actually more capable of writing better stuff alone than having someone telling them how to do it. And the thing with the "real" Shinoda it's just a matter of ideas and what the band is trying to do at the time. I'm pretty sure he would be able to make a badass verse if he wanted to, but I don't think Mike has any plans to make verses like these ones. I would love to? You're damn right, but compared to other modern rapper artists, this guy writes better material in my opinion and I'm fine with him being a singer, he actually improved quite a bit since the early days, he has a beautiful voice (No Roads Left, In Between, just a few examples) and I hope I hear more songs from him and of course Chester.
@evanurena88687 жыл бұрын
al112v5: I got no problem with Mike branching out singing and being an instrumentalist, he is multi-talented afterall and he's really the leader of the band since he's the brains behind all of Linkin Park. In fact, Mike actually adds that kind of mid-range that Chester lacks when he sings, which is a good addition to the band. He just seems to neglect his hip hop side way too much and for a while has become way too corny ,sing-song poppy, and even braggy with his style, especially as of late. To me, Mike's badass hip hop nature is what makes him special and incredible.

anthony irvin Ehi. Dom't be so desperate! One more light is just a different album; and maybe it wouuld be cool

This isn't a new song, tho, it is actually from before Chester came to the band, when it was called Xero

Dono Ciao: Mike said "Heavy" is the core representation of the album. So the whole is going to have fruity and generic mainstream pop songs. Don't be so hopeful about it.
@evanurena88687 жыл бұрын
anthony irvin: Yeah, maybe Mike should hear himself back in the day and compare himself to what he said in Get Me Gone and now.

Jakub Skonieczny Blatant diss to anyone who actually likes "Heavy" which was completely unnecessary.
@jakubskonieczny57507 жыл бұрын
just joking, have some distance :) If someone could dislike this song it must be new/fresh LP fan because it's very "old stuff" theme right there. And fresh LP fan probably like Heavy. There's some possible corellation.
