what a great tune ! i had the pleasure of meeting Alex and the band last year when i was working in catering at a festival they did. I had a chat with Alex and he was down to earth and seemed a really nice guy. I mentioned i was going to finish work and come and see his set and said i was trying to get my daughter in to watch it with me, he straight away offered to sort her out a pass and true to his word he got his tour manager to come across with a pass and my 16 yr old daughter and i got to have a special dad and daughter experience listening to a great set from a band that i had made her grow up listening to in her baby seat in the back of my car. Awesome new tune from a set of guys who appreciate the fans they have.

Jo Larnach they're really nice guys. I had the pleasure of meeting Alex and Nick during the 2014 tour and they're exactly as you described. Nick also gave tickets to some fans who were at the hotel door but couldn't buy it at the time. Franz Ferdinand is a band that deserves all the success in the world

@alaina9326 жыл бұрын
Let me tell you guys. Growing up in an Assembly of God church in the south, what he's doing in this video is absolutely not far from the truth. It wasn't a church service if people weren't getting shoved to the ground. It was bananas. I remember being a kid and being terrified of the preacher even looking at me. My very limited understanding of this video, especially being familiar with what he's doing, leads me to believe it's a satire on Christianity and evangelists. I'm sure that seems obvious. - In the beginning of the video, he can't even stand up straight with whatever drugs he's on (assuming that's what it is) and has to be carried to the chair. Then he goes on an altar and "blesses" his congregation. - Then you see him "walking on water" and someone washing his feet, like he himself is a god because he's really just a narcissist taking advantage of people who are putting all of their faith into him. - At the end, you see everyone walking around in a weird conga line with sunglasses on. I'm probably wrong, but it seemed to show them as being "blind" to the truth. - Then, you see the white dove, which is clearly fake. In Christianity, the white dove symbolizes the Holy Spirit, among other things. Because the dove is fake (or dead and stuffed) in the video, it would make sense that it's symbolizing how "fake"/disingenuous he is (i.e. the dove represents him). Something along those lines. John Oliver did a great piece on Televangelists that explains this kind of thinking in more detail; really, how a lot of evangelists are just taking advantage of their congregation by abusing the offerings and manipulating them for more money etc. VERRRY loose interpretation as I don't fully understand what's going on, but that's what jumps out at me. Alex has such a great way of coming off as a controlling, manipulative person in this video, I love it - especially at the end as he's strutting towards the camera. Because that's what he is in this video: controlling and manipulative. The whole video is genius and the song is absolutely amazing.

there are some churches that have faith healers where there is the "laying of hands" on a church member who is ill or struggling. They tend to be evangelical churches and even "speak in tongues" Quite popular in the southern US. As odd as this sounds it is very real.

Franz Ferdinand are the new Beatles. Every single song they write is a hit that get stuck in your head forever and give you that "i heard this song before but i actually didn't" feeling, without falling in those cheesy four chords progression... i'm not even much into indie rock but this band with the Strokes are really something unique and beautiful

No es el mejor clip que han sacado, pero mola xDDD. La canción es muy buena, este grupo tiene un repertorio legendario y no termina de llegar a las grandes masas. Espero que se los valore como merecen algún día, y mientras tanto sigan regalando temazos como este. ¡Larga vida a Franz Ferdinad!

@georginawhitby13206 жыл бұрын
The video is a pastiche of Benny Hinn, as if reinterpreted by David Byrne. A comment perhaps on mass hysteria as it slides into stylised kitch . This fits with the " you aren't what you do " recurring lyrical refrain , which refuses to read enactment as authentic self . It works well as a pushback against identity politics demands that a player must be read as the role or costume they currently wear.
@Argidiel5 жыл бұрын
@@nallelyyoung2869 so many things I'm feeling insecure even trying to enumerate them all. - he is supposedly "saving" people with his touch/energy/higher power/whatever, but at the beginning he gets himself ready with bunch of drugs. And the reason the other person is showing them into him looks like he wants to believe "no, you're not that thing that you're doing". He is saying those words while looking at his reflection in the mirror. - people are falling because they are pushed, pushed into believing that some persona can get them rid of problems just like that. - him walking on the water, the dove, "bla, bla, bla"/"haven't slept for seven years", the guy washing his feet... It's full of parody, irony, sarcasm and contradictions ridiculing fake ways people try to help themselves. - the woman falling when he waves with his jacket towards her. She saw many falling (by force though) before her, and out of a conviction, she throws herself to the floor too. And afterwards, whole masses become sheep doing the same. - people think they feel love, while they were only made fools. Therefore, "let the love go", because the love you think is love, is not love. There are plenty of more, I'm sure. And those things I wrote, they are my interpretations. Who knows, maybe they're into saving people with mass brainwashing.
