I really do wish NBDs and progression would get rewarded more in best trick contests. I remember Sandro Dias' 900 once lost to Danny Mayer's varial kickflip McTwist strictly based on the fact that nobody had ever done a varial flip McTwist before. It's like Mitchie landing the first ever 1260 in Big Air and getting silver for it. It just feels wrong
@krolik1157 Жыл бұрын
Just real quick, Mitchie got the best score for his 1260, that year the total Big Air score was the score of your trick over the flat+your QP trick -- Mitchie did a stock-standard 180 over the flat to give himself the best chance of hitting the 1260. Good for the fans, bad for Mitchie's chances of winning the event.

I can't find the video but I'm sure he invented the trick over 30 years ago. Likewise with the Kickflip McTwist, Stalefish McTwist, alley oop-cab lipslide, ollie 360 nosegrind revert, and so on, tricks seen in best trick and the vert contest today. He didn't invent the heelflip 720, though ... :D

Is there something wrong w the ramp? Seems like everyone kept wiping out on simple transitions. That middle section of the ramp ,whenever someone would skate over it, it had a different sound. Wonder if they lost a bit of speed here.
@sk8_bort Жыл бұрын
how is a kickflip mctwist better than a nollie indy 900? People literally throw 540 kickflips in the middle of their runs. I don't skate vert, so I am asking out of genuine curiosity, I feel that I'm missing something. It seemed that Moto was going for the alley-oop version of that trick, and the first one he did was kind of the warm up, before going for the alley oop.
@skateplanks Жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm also confused on that one!
@rikkidgermano9640 Жыл бұрын
Do you see a lot of grown skaters do 900s?! Nope because they will tell you it is almost impossible to do 900s once you are fully grown. Danny Way already spoke on it.
@thomaspickin9376 Жыл бұрын
Because he didn't do a 540 kickflip. He did a Heelflip cab 720, or a "720 from fakie with a Heelflip". It's a much more technical trick, you're not just holding onto the board and praying you have to do the flip catch it and pull it back all whilst spinning. Also like people have said Danny way has spoken it's easier to spin higher rotations when you're younger.
@sk8_bort Жыл бұрын
@@thomaspickin9376 I'm talking about Moto's trick. The one that got silver.
@sk8_bort Жыл бұрын
@thomaspickin9376 Well, yeah, and there are many other things that are easier to do when you're a grown-up, like getting more air, for example. And some people find spinning frontside way easier, too. Tricks should be judged objectively, without taking into account how short, tall, old, or young the rider is.

is nollie 900 really a bronze trick kickflip mctwist is a run trick am i wrong tho is it cause moto always goes way upside down? correct me
@augustvong7057 Жыл бұрын
No. That is the pure Kickflip McTwist, with a mute grab, invented by Tony Hawk in 1995. Probably one of the hardest tricks ever done. Most skaters does it with some kind of varial. Catching it mute after a full flip while spinning in the air is a bit harder, since very few have done it ... And also, you might be right with the upside down spin. Very beautiful! And in front of the inventor.
@rikkidgermano9640 Жыл бұрын
a 900 whether nollie or regular is still a spin trick and you only see kids who aren't fully grown do it. Most adults have difficulties doing it Not because they cannot pull it off but it has something to do with the body. Danny Way explained it in one of his documentaries that it was easier for him to do all sorts of spin tricks when he was young and his body hasn't been fully developed.
@AJOLDMUSI Жыл бұрын
@rikkidgermano9640 i get that but i feel like that brings up a debate. Should he be punished just for being young. What if there was just a really short skater. Say if hypothetically tall skaters get more air, should they not get better scores for doing a trick with more air than another one cause hes taller than the other guy Figure skaters and gymnists are all wicked young cause of the same thing, they dontbget points taken off for being younger or smaller. Its something only done in skateboarding. No other sport punishes someone for having certain physical traits. My view. Its hard to say but in the end if someones out killing it doing something no else can touch...idk seems a bit not fair. I think every sakter should be equally judged. Becomes a subject of ageism. I know where your coming from but you have to admit that hardly any, if not no other sports discrimnate the same way.. idk (:

However I have to say Im shocked to see him competing still. I had no clue he was still doing that at the highest level. Now I just started the video and so I have no clue how he's going to do. I can't help but wonder if his presence is nothing more than fan service and giving one of the greats an opportunity to compete, because he's Tony Hawk. But if he wasn't, he wouldn't be on that stage right now. I truly hope I'm wrong and that Tony is some sort of crazy machine that can still hold his own. That would be totally awesome if thats the case. But I'm skeptical at this point.
