hi all! i'm back with another random video, which is a lyric video for the 2008 live demo version of The World Is Ugly by My Chemical Romance. this version has such a special place in my heart, despite still adoring the Conventional Weapons studio version, i find the lyrics and the emotions of this version so much more powerful. i've looked around on youtube and not many people are making videos about this song at all, and i'm pretty sure only one lyric video exists, and half of the lyrics are wrong (sorry 🙊)
i still don't think even i have the lyrics 100% since the audio quality is pretty bad at times. but i'd say this lyric video is probably 99.9% accurate.
and don't freak out at the random switch of audio quality towards the end, just in case you haven't heard this song before now. they played this version only once i'm pretty sure, and literally only like two videos exist on youtube of the actual performance, so to get the full version of this song, both had to be mashed together since the first person (with the better audio quality) didn't record the whole song, le sigh 😣
but despite wishing we had a high quality recording of this version, i still feel blessed that we have any recording at all!

it was changed bc gerard wrote songs for how he felt at the time, the thing that changed was bandit's birth which caused the newer version to have lyrics directed towards bandit

This version was written when he broke up with his ex gf, and the newer version was written when he started a family and had Bandit Way and Lindsey Way. I don't think he'd want to cry as he was becoming happier and getting better with a woman and a child he loves. The emotion plays a role. Anyways, the studio version was probably from perspective of someone rebellious enough to love someone the way they do. They have to leave (possibly forever) and didn't want their lover to cry, so tried to not seem as heartbroken and sad as they leave even though they felt that way.

You can hear the Raw emotions in his voice. It literally sounds like he is in pain. That's what makes this more special than the Studio version, because you can feel, hear, the emotions by the way he sings.

this song song makes me remember how much gerard way cares about his fan base,the message behind it,"the world is ugly but your beautiful to me" its so annoying how they blame him when a fan of his commits suicide all of his songs are about not giving up and about "not afraid to keep on living" literally spelled out like in famous last words

@@3twibles4sweetrevenge a lot of people. all the time. it was more common back during their prime but id assume it still happens. media outlets in the 2000s were always blaming the "satanic cultish emo bands" for any sort of violence, anger, or suicide that came from teens at the time. it seems silly to anyone who knows about the music and what it means, and how it in fact SAVES people from doing things like that a lot of times, but its incredibly common for people outside of the sphere to use band members and other creators of teenage entertainment as a scapegoat instead of actually assessing the issues they claim to care about

THANK YOU. This version was played during the concert I went to in Sao Paulo in Brazil in 2008 and honestly the official album version will never live up to this. I literally cried back then and it still moves me... I only wish this version made into an album with a decent audio quality ;(

Yeah! well, lucky me! haha they played 2 days, I went in the 2nd day, so it might be the other day's recording, but still. Sadly smartphones were not a thing yet and I couldn't record anything cuz my camera battery ran out, plus the audio quality sucked haha. But in my mind I remember like it was yesterday. Small venue so I could watch it really close to the stage which was great, I was on the left side in front of Ray, and once Gerard walked right in front of me and I was SO excited fangirling so hard I even yelled MARRY ME GERARD! HAHAHA - true story. I also remember at Sleep they made a different intro with a drums solo which was awesome. And when this song started I was like 'shIT A NEW ONE??" and it hit me right in the feels. 02/18/2008. never forget. Wow, exactly a month from now today it will be 11 years!! excuse me while I go cry a lot

the official version of this song is so shitty compared to this version. ALSO- If you are looking for a studio version, A youtube musician named Billy Cobb did an epic studio grade cover of this song. He sings very similarly to Gerard, and it's a great alternative to mourning the fact that this version was never finished.

Most of times the previous to the studio version has more impact and feelings than the more known one. Here you can feel that Gerard is singing with al his feelings and giving everything he got. love this raw and unfinished, yet perfect version.

I think its "Are you thinking of him" because then he proceeds to say "I think you bot should go" and also he could be saying " But I think its just a fling" because then he proceeds to say "are you happy now that you got wat you came for?" I thin the song was originally about loving someone whos in a relationship but cheated with you and only wanted a fling, which is why i think they rewrote the lyrics as its not really their style. Ultimately, i think the song, and most people agree, suffered for it

ok but their sound changed as band members change. the original band made MCR. they were in sync. but as stuff started happening and new guys came in the sound just is not the same. like with the rolling stones. and Way trying to go solo just didn't have the MCR spirit. Poor Bob. he was a damn good drummer the they had and compared to other bands. he could really get the beat. And Frank. yeah and Way were into each other. so what? They didn't not have to force them selves to marry women and have kids. the fans would have been totally cool with them together. When frank left, Way just looked totally blank. he was singing but he was like he lost something. frank could put a light in his eye that wife can't. frank was a great support. My MCR dream is to see the original band i mean the welcome to the black parade band, get back together. They Made MCR. they are MCR. MCR is out on tour again. and that's great. but it's not like the real MCR. but that's just me. regardless, i shell remain a fan.
