As a Chinese student studying abroad, here's my own opinion: Is the 0C19 policy good? It should be a good policy for China, considering its large amount of population, but definitely not the way it looks today. I support those people who stand for their own chance of survival. However, there're a certain amount of people who simply want to tear up everything. They shouts for freedom just because the epidemic prevention personnel didn't bring the stuff they want. They want a full lock-free environment, but imagine how they would do if the government meets their requirements and the infection number climbs up. By then, every media in the entire world will mock China again for "not considering people's lives for letting so many people get infected", followed by hundreds of thousands of people all around the world. Then why 0C19 policy got so many negative views compared to the first time when it was introduced? Short version: C19 variation, the rigidity of the policy, avaricious snobs, more of a symbol rather than providing welfare, and the comparison to other places. When the first breakdown started, the 0C19 policy did a tremendous job. When hundreds of thousands of people suffering all around the world, the lockdown policy saved countless lives. China initiated a lockdown for a couple of months over a few cities, and there are nearly no complains(Considering this policy is just introduced, and the vast majority of people value their own lives than the so-called freedom at that time). But as the pandemic comes back and forth, some avaricious worms came out. They make fake permits and sell emergency aid supplies just for money, making people scold the local government and the aiding government for sending them bad food, creating lots of accusations among the public. Some people started to blame the 0C19 policy since then. As the variation of C19 goes less fatal, the 0C19 policy gradually became insufferable. It has nothing to do with caring about own life, simply started to bother people's daily activities. 0C19 policy now is more of a symbolic tool to demonstrate how well the local government did on paper, rather than the way it should be. Some regulations make no reason at all but are obligated to follow. The rigidity of the policy, the lag and distorted execution of local neighborhoods, plus the comparison with the situation between other domestic regions and outside the country, more and more people starts to criticize the 0C19 policy. This is a very complicated and urgent problem and must be resolved at any instant. Due to the lack of my personal experience, there should be many other positive and negative aspects I haven't seen ever since 2020. This is just my personal superficial understanding.

And now most in China are not inmune. They should have taken the same path the rest of the world took. This is about old polititcians feeling vulnerable to die. Just like Putien can stand but 6 feet away of everybody else. You can't punish a billion population because you're afraid your time has come. China's zero tolerance makes no sense after 2 years of the pandemic. It is time for those that can't survive to go away. Besides, there are more than enough vaccines out there.

I lived in China for 2 years. I can say that China is one of the most racist countries in the world. I was refused jobs in China because of my skin colour. The cab drivers won't even pick a non Chinese. I'm not one of those victims always looking for racism. Truly in China, they still have the mindset of pre 1950s people.
