I know KOEI is japanese firm. Is the are reason any reason they pushed this character so high on the pecking order? His "legendary" feud with Guan Yu is simply one-sided jealously fueled grudge... Sometimes it's look more like they are laughing toward the chinese philosophy when they are making these kinds of characters popular :D If you are chinese please answer to this comment and tell your thoughs. How highly ranked was Xiahou Dun among Cao Cao generals anyway?

What? Xiahou dun is considered to be in the top 50 warriors in all of human history. And i would wager during this period his strength was inferior only to Guan Yu and Lu Bu

In cao cao and later wei court very high actually as cao cao value his loyalty (cao cao nominating him as han official wich he refuse and want to serve cao cao/ye court instead) and bravery before he died cao pi made him into grand general also his son married cao cao daugther However he also very reckless making cao cao put him behind the front line during guan du campaign both to protect cao cao back from liu biao and liu bei also fear of his live beside he also good in civil project including making dam end other project

As for guan yu "escape" there isnt historical record about seven gate altough if im not wrong some cao cao general actuall complain how guan yu is ungretfull toward cao cao
