Me and my friend @frankieslight went to Jamaica (the neighborhood in NYC, not the country) and spoke some Jamaican patois (or Jamaican creole), which is the national language of Jamaica. It’s based on English but it is a separate language, and you can learn to speak it just like any other language. Here in Jamaica, Queens we got some classic Jamaican food like patties, jerk chicken, and ackee and saltfish, and people were really surprised to see a white guy speaking Jamaican patois! And this was also my first time as an American trying Jamaican food, and I loved everything!

I think it’s because of how different it is from English, while still being a dialect of English. Normally, when we talk to someone with another accent, we keep our own accents, but when you speak another language, you attempt their accent. When speaking a dialect, it almost feels more like you’re trying to do an extreme accent and it feels kinda silly.
@ling2186
@ling2186 9 ай бұрын
It isn't jamaican english it is called Jamaican Patois wich is classes as an English based creole language. Making it a different language all together. You aren't imitating their accent but saying different words with unique spellings that don't appear in English. The accent sound comes from pronouncing the words correctly in their language.
