You can actually use 8.5" tubes on a 10" tyre! I've been using this setup for over 300km on 55psi and it's working brilliant! ( 10" tyres recommend 35psi, but it is working ok for over 2 months)

At this point you might as well drill holes in the motor wheelhub cap to cool the motor, as well as carving some ram air intakes into the deck to cool off electronics, replace the folding latch by a non-folding permanently fixed collar, get the xtech hb-100 caliper upgrade for a decent braking. Don't forget to flash the xiaomi OFW with 1) KERS OFF (this KERS thing on the xiaomi is life-threatening, shut it down so that you'll be freewheeling, but you'll still have motor braking when you use the braking lever), 2) Russian throttle algorithm (giving the xiaomi an immediate throttle response just like on a gas scooter), 3) motor start speed at 0 (so you don't have to kick the scooter to start again after being almost stillstanding)

Those tires, if they are of the reinforced rubber variety, are what I use on my scooter, and mine hold up perfectly well for extended periods of time at up to 50 km/h! They are grippier than the original tires, for sure.

Did you consider the sabvoton 7245? Not quite the 50A your battery is capable of it would fit and be perfect for you
@DylanFowler4 жыл бұрын
Tony, maybe you could mount a back rack and put the motor controller above the back wheel. You can also buy a wider board to go on top the current footboard. Also as long as the voltage of the motor and the battery is the same the watts don't matter as long as there are the same or more watts from the battery.

I figured it was safer to do the parallel connections first. Then you can't short anything out until you start completing the final side of series connections. Then I cover the parts I'm not working on with some tape or foam rubber, so if I drop a piece of nickel strip it can't land in a place to short the cells.

Thanks for the tip about the VHB tape, I've tried superglue and hot snot for building packs and neither does a particularly good job.
@Vortecks4 жыл бұрын
I cringe when I see hot glue being used - as you know, it just cracks up and impossible to cleanly remove a faulty cell. With VHB tape, you dribble some IPA solvent down the VHB strip, wait 5 mins and it slides out (and the battery) 😁

@Vortecks3 жыл бұрын
Sorry mate, my inbox is constantly flooded at the moment 😕 To put things into terms you'll easily understand.......... First off, no battery likes continuous heavy current draw, it's not just 30Q's, it's all of them. If you start running a battery close to its limit, it gets hot. Let's draw an analogy.......Imagine a battery as a resistor (in essence, that's all they are anyway). The 30Q has a higher resistance than the 25R and it gets hotter if you push it the same amount. The 30Q is rated at 15A constant, the 25R is rated at 20A constant - CONSTANT. You'll never push your cells at their constant power, it's not possible on an e-Bike or any other EV. If you're looking at explosive power, the 25R's will handle it better than the 30Q but, if you're looking at range, the 30Q is your best choice. There are a lot of design factors to take into account when building a battery but the main one is cooling (also, have a look at my video named "size matters"). The main areas to keep cool are the terminals so please don't do the same as loads of people and pack the shit out of the casings, you only need the bare essential to stop things rattling and causing problems further down the line. What I'm trying to say is, don't add packaging because there's a space. With any battery, if you keep pulsing the power, they will start fading but if you keep them as cool as possible, have some considerations when building the pack and store them correctly (at 3.7V per cell) you won't have problems for many years. It annoys me when people give false information about batteries. Generalising and saying that 30Q's only last 250 charges is bollocks - if you pack the shit out of your casings, don't care for them and run them at full power all the time then yes, they might only last that long but to generalise that is just wrong. Look at my 26650's which everyone said were shit - after charging them to 4.2V per cell every time and pulling >250A quite a few times on every run, they haven't faded whatsoever in the 2 years I've had them because I considered how I built the battery and I know how to look after them. In a nutshell..... you might regret buying the 30Q because the power will fade quicker than the 25R but then again, you might regret buying the 25R because they won't give the same range as the 30Q...... sadly, you can't have everything - I just want power and I don't give a shit how far it takes me 😁

The xiaomi controller is quite versatile itself using the open source firmware mods with variable regen as well, how come you don't want to use that? Since you're running 14S if you have a version 2 DRV unit it can easily handle up to 85v! If you upgrade to IRFB4110 mosfets, then you can very comfortably pump 2 kW into the motor, maintaining the original drivetrain components (40 amps @ 14S)
@Vortecks4 жыл бұрын
Really? After I'd used mine on 12S at around 1.2kw, it was toast and kept cutting out due to overheating. I'd already fitted IRFB4110 mosfets and it still wouldn't handle it 😪
