Fantastic modification. It would be great if Xiaomi produced an upgrade kit for the 365 with a full set of easy to follow instructions for those of us that don't understand electronics. I would love to do this modification but it's too risky for me. Instead of getting double the range it would end up not working at all ...lol. Great video.

You're welcome; you're a talented individual. I don't know anyone with the knowledge to carry out this modification so I'm pretty much stuck in one place from that perspective. I was considering the a complete scooter upgrade like the Inokim OX, but it's very expensive and I fear the performance claims are wildly exaggerated like most scooter manufactures. Would you happen to have any tips on fitting the solid tyres to the M365? I was reluctant to buy them but get punctures on an almost weekly basis in both wheels and I've got tired of buying inner tubes; they just perish with the heat generated inside the tyre. Thanks again for the videos.
@DougHnut6 жыл бұрын
i tried solid once and i didn't like them. i use a microwave to heat up the tire first and that helped alot . but i read somwhere its better to not use a microwave, and just install it as is. maybe the ones with holes in them are better
@TheLKline6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I've actually already purchased the solid tyres you refer to (the hole version) but they're quite literally impossible to install. There is no pliability with the compound, it's just solid. I spent hours yesterday trying to put one on but it was a hopeless task, despite soaking them in boiling water (something I read on a forum). Haven't tried the microwave tip yet as I was disinclined to place them in my brand new oven lol. Plus, I've heard similar to you that it's not a good idea. I'm at a crossroads with this scooter; I think it's a fantastic machine, but the continuous punctures remove the practicality from owning it. It's just a pity these common problems haven't been addressed by the manufacturer with a tubeless tyre conversion. This scooter has so much potential, but the simple things haven't been addressed. Hopefully they'll eventually bring out a new model with considerably more power & range, plus tubeless or solid tyres. Thanks again for your interaction & help. Much appreciated.

Thanks for this video. It is a good mod. I did it just a little differently. I didn't open the battery. I just spliced an XT60 connector to the battery wiring by doing a "window strip" on the wires. I used a piece of sheet aluminum to make a battery bracket and mounted the bag to the folding steering column just above the latch. Finally I added a battery multimeter which shows Volts, Amps, power, and energy used since last reset. This required adding a current shunt inside next to the motor controller. I charge the batteries separately by disconnecting the external XT60.

The second batttery voltage monitor you installed is connected to your add on battery... Which is connected to your main battery behind the BMS but after the ribbon strips.... So all your reading is the higher voltage of one of two batteries. Not a separate voltage since all you did was splice two packs together. You would have to be able to isolate that pack from the other to get an accurate reading. Otherwise, your just reading the voltage from whichever pack is giving more power....which is most likely the original...

Nice simple job. But one thing that may help if someone doesn't want to drill into their scooter is to use extra strong Velcro, this stuff is super strong once in place so won't fall off. Normal Velcro will fall off but the extra strong stuff won't allow your battery pack to fall off. But the stick on extra strong Velcro is very good for this kind of job.

excellent write-up, but one flaw with your methodology; although in theory it shouldn’t be an issue charging both batteries through the scooters charge port, the external battery BMS cannot protect against overcharge or properly balance in case of a runaway or defective charger. my advice to those would be always to charge the two packs separately whenever possible; you’ll get a full charge faster this way and will allow the external BMS to do its job on the input port in terms of balancing and protecting against overcharging. I also run a parallel battery setup on my Dualtron Spider and it’s close to tripled the range, i suspect due to the fact both batteries are drawing so much less current that they don’t break a sweat.

Nevertheless, I don't recommend CFW and BMS 1.07 because I noticed that my connection points on my controller are permanently burned and also, there are some burn marks on my white plastic fender near my front hub motor.

Would there be a way to ever run two factory batteries on an On/Off/On switch and effectively have a 'reserve tank'? I'd be interested to see that done.
@whitcwa4 жыл бұрын
It could be done, but not with "factory batteries". Only one "factory battery" fits in the scooter. Plus, there is little reason to do it. It wouldn't increase the range over paralleling two batteries. You still wouldn't know exactly when the second battery would run out. It also wouldn't help with reducing voltage sag on hills. Also, you can NOT parallel a dead battery with a charged one. Too much current will flow and the BMS will shut the battery down (if the fuse doesn't blow first).

Hi Doug Hnut first thanks for your comments . Another question regards to the battery , in order to expand battery life is it better to charger battery after every ride or when its really low in power? thanks.
@DougHnut6 жыл бұрын
the best possible way to extend battery life is to the the 60% in the middle. avoid the first and last 20%. but this is difficult to do. so i charge after every ride. if you are gonna store the scooter for awhile, leave it at half charge. 1300 km ridden so far

just out of curiosity why didnt you just connect the discharge charge port of the new battery to the charge port of the old battery when both are of equal voltage? it would prevent you from having to solder anything.

Would it be ok to take out the extra battery when you don't need that much range, then put it on when you do need the range? Will the voltage change during discharge and will it affect connectivity?

Just finished doing this modification. Only difference is, I didn’t solder the cables to the scooter battery, I used connectors instead. I also took the extended cable and ran it inside the steering tube which runs along side the red brake cable. To contain the battery, I used a Head Handle Bag which I bought from AliExpress. It’s much neater and saves you the leg space. Just waiting for this bloody rain to stop so I can test it out! 😤

...Everybody is talking custom firmware. I have a new Xiaomi m365 with the latest update...1.5.1 version. Not good they say. Better to have earlier versions. When you did your modification, did you have to consider what version you had? Do you think it will work for me with my 1.5.1 version?
@davelee885 жыл бұрын
Johan Swede, so far no issues but early days. Its made in 2018 and I’ve updated to. 1.5.1. Switched the regen braking to low as I heard it can damage the batteries. Haven’t bothered customising the firmware as I don’t have an Android phone.

would be possible to connect 2 extra batteries instead of just one? and what about 3 or 4? or would be possible to make so that is first consumes the external battery and then start consuming the internal one(that way i can have extra batteries in a backpack and change the external one) i live very far off everything and just doubling the battery would not do, at least i need to make it last three times as much
@Mietas25 жыл бұрын
The way batteries are connected here basically makes them look like "one big" as far as scooter electronics think. To discharge one by one I think you would need some extra circuit board that would switch power supply from empty to full. Can be done but will be more expensive and complicated and, with so many batteries, very heavy.

So what? Are you simply just hooking up the other battery to the factory battery terminals and using x60 connectors? And a fuse in between? Does the fuse part go in the bag or compartment? Does it matter which end? what about the factory battery connector ? Do you just leave it the way it is? None of this was explained in whole what is being done
@PhamstaTL5 жыл бұрын
Can you explain why the fuse is needed in your method? Others just use straight y cable with no fuse. Thank you!
@mgmmassey5 жыл бұрын
Just in case of a voltage difference between battery packs....power will move almost instantly between battery packs to attempt to equalize voltage and this creates extreme heat and probably fire. The fuse is a backstop against voltage differences.

Hi! I really enjoyed watching the video. Great job! I am planning on using a 10s4p 12ah battery.I was wondering if you knew the maximum amperage of the battery, what is the max the esc supports. Would really appreciate a reply! Thanks!
@antovrbat99465 жыл бұрын
You should't worry about amperage. Bigger batteries have more amperage. But generally esc have max 500w so 500/42 is 12A. But wiring in parallel You are summing amperage, voltage is same. In series voltages are summing and amperage is same.
@jan16875 жыл бұрын
@@antovrbat9946 so if I were to wire 2 6 amp batteries in parallel I would get a battery with double the amperage and capacity? I know the capacity increases, but does it affect the amount of current the battery can produce? Many thanks!
@antovrbat99465 жыл бұрын
@@jan1687 Yes you are increasing amperage. Because Power=current * voltage. Voltage is same, so current must be dubbled. Only thing you need to check is voltage. It MUSt be same, and you need to check manually with multimeter. And batteries should be simillar capacity. Because of voltage drops, weaker battery.

Hey, thanks for all your tutorials. They've saved me a lot of frustration with owning a couple of these. One of them has just stopped working. The front wheel is spinning in jerks and stops. The battery is fine. I don't think it's the bearing because they spin fine if the scooter isn't on. It's when the power is on that the front wheel spins in fits and jerks. It isn't the break either because I tried the front wheel with it off the ground to see how it spun. Have you experienced this before? .Thanks.

Excited from your video, I tried to extend the battery capacity of my M187. Although everything was done according to your instructions, the battery capacity and range stay the same. (?) Both batteries are connected parallel without failure. Do you have an explanation?
@DougHnut6 жыл бұрын
The capacity on the apps will show the same, as well as the estimated range. Go out for a range test and let me know how it goes. If it is still them same then after the range test, can you measure the voltage of the extra pack and see if the voltage has dropped from a full charge or not.

my second battery is 35v , i have been charging it for a whole day , can i connect it now or wait till 41v. thanks
@Ouli935 жыл бұрын
definitely be the same as the first one. If the voltage differential is to high it will destroy your battery
@whitcwa4 жыл бұрын
If you've been charging it for a full day and it is only 35V then either the battery or the charger is bad. A 6V difference will cause too much current to flow from the internal battery to the external one. Even if the fuse doesn't blow, you'll still be discharging the main battery.

Hey Doug, after reading a comment on your previous video about the poor guys’ hinge bolt snapping, I’m scared to ride downhill. He might have forgotten to lock in the circular hook that attaches to where you pull the knob to fold the scooter. Have you had any problems with the handle? I have noticed that mine is getting loose. Might be because I tend to pull the scooter towards me while I am going fast.
