Most xiaomi apps have the setting "show recommendations" which enables ads. Ive turned it off for my phone and the ads disappeared.

@yy l miui got 3 official rom. Chinese rom, global rom, and Russian rom. There is no Indian rom. Ads will show up if u change ur phone location to India, Indonesia and etc. But if u change ur phone location to Europe country then the ads will gone

Just wanted to point out that I've heard wireless charging is working via Qi standard up to 15w (so with all the Fast Wireless charging you can find around) whereas you have to buy specific Xiaomi wireless chargers to get those 20w cause it uses a proprietary standard. I have serious doubts over whether they'll really fix the notification issue... Since MIUI takes a lot of design cues from iOS, it might be an intentional design to keep the "clean aesthetic" of the OS. I'm hoping Xiaomi doesn't go down the path of Aesthetics > Functionality.

The thing with the notification issue you're stating is because it is trying to show the time. An example would be within 02:13 or something where the extended notification shows but glimpses the time. I don't see that as a bug but that is how it is supposed to be programmed.

I don't think it's that with at least this notch. Maybe on the Mi 8. Why can't it be like others show a few later shows for example 9 notifications? I don't think hiding it is the way forward.

Probably but let's be honest you just can't show 9 notifications. It would be an outrage for other people not seeing the time in vice-versa. But cool thought on the notch thing. It kind of functions the same with the wider notces on other Xiaomi Phones; Pocophone and Mi 8.

The brief notifications aren't really a bug. That is the default implementation of showing notifs in MIUI right now. Even my RN7 behaves like that. They disappear in the statusbar coz they think that showing the clock and icons for alarms, silent, headshet, etc are more important.

Xiaomi sells stuff cheaper in India and China than the rest of the world and makes money back by selling Ads space on those regions. if I remember correctly it disable by default on global version but once it got activate(by changing region) the only way to stop them from showing is to manually disable it in the setting. if you got a global version of the phone then you should stick with your own region and not changing it.

The app vault security part told me viruses were found and to run a scan, it found no viruses but showed me like 3 ads in the process. Those shortcuts in recents and lies in app vault are all to trick you to run cleaner so they can show you ads and make revenue off it.

Xiaomi do ask for user agreement before put recommendation/ad ,they also give user option to turn off ads in settings. If people pressed "Yes" then their complaining is ridiculous, there's "No "option . That's respect for customers, way better than many" free" apps . Ex : KZbin => 1 video has 2-6 ads 🤣

If there is a user agreement for ads then it is compulsory to use the phone. You cannot turn off all the ads. The settings to turn off the ones you can turn off are hidden as much as possible. They are using alot of dirty tactics to fill the rom with ads, respect for customers...absolutely not. Other brands don't have these kind of ads. They removed most ads for chinese users even though they get way more features, and to make up lost revenue they are filling the global rom in every place they possibly can. Perhaps people in some countries will be more accepting of these ads but they will never be successful in Europe or US with this kind of nonsense. Regarding youtube, there is a difference between ads in third party apps you choose to use and the operating system of the phone. I also guarantee youtube will never give me a notification or ad in some language I don't understand when my phone is set to english. KZbin have real ads, miui ads are annoying spam ads which nobody has any interest in. @@vinhpeo6902

i don't think the notification thing is a bug. just not very good implementation like some other notched displays, since there is not enough screen width, if there are many notifications, they only show the notification icons when a new one comes in, then change back to system icons.

As usual great follow up Chris. What you mentioned about notifications showing for 3 sec and disappearing, is by design. Xiaomi Poco F1 has the same functionality regarding notifications. Lock screen, unlock screen, you can see notification for 3 seconds, and then you get the clock.

You can turn off most of the ADs. There are too many engineers (several thousands) working on MIUI project, they want to somewhat monetize it, like some freemium software.

Actually on previous version of miui 10 pie the notifications were not showing at all. But after the latest update on miui pie they made the notification show briefly on the left of the notch everytime there is a change in activity in the notification area.

Whats interesting is that they updated their promo photos across internet with that waterdrop notch which i find weird, why would they even make U-shaped one in the first place if day after the launch they change it. Hi, with reference to advices, xiaomi claims they allow a seconday income to them, allowing xiaomi to keep the prices low. In order to switch them off o into security/cleaner/settings, and switch SUGGESTIONS off. It works the same for all the othe proprietary apps, except for Music, and maybe something else. Try and let me know.

You should really look into custom ROMs, such as Lineage or Mokee. Unlock the bootloader and test some ROMs if you have the time

They may have done that for a cleaner look. Once you see the notifications, they're going to be there until you acknowledge them anyway. Anytime the notifications show for a bit, that means you just received a new notification. Then it goes away. It just looks clean.

The thing with the S9+ is the software, for me it lagged like crazy after a few months and had battery drain (weak signal made the battery drain really fast) issues. I have reset it multiple times, but it kept coming back. I have the Mi 8 now, had the mix 3 but sold it because it was very heavy and for the money I sold it for I can buy a Mi9 for. I am thinking to get the S10, but the problems I had with Samsung Experience with the S8 and S9 are really stopping me for buying the S10.

Software and battery life is my only real issues on my S9+ I face. My S9+ has some UI stuttering I did a factory reset about 2 months ago, been fine since then. I'm seriously considering the S10+ or Mi 9. My issue with the S10+ here is it's the Exynos 9820 version in the EU and not as good as the SD855 version I coudl get back home in New Zealand. I wont to keep the Mi 9 for the speed of it. But video (Important to a youtuber) is much better on my S9+

The reason it is now a tear drop notch rather than a u shape, is because users in China prefer tear drop. And the CEO Lei Jun said they could change it to whatever notch you want adjusted to the user needs.

Chris, regarding the standby time, you can install Wakelock Detector Lite and see which app is responsible for the wakelocks. That's pretty much the only app that can do that.

The ads are only showing in Chinese version and for pubg, it has notch support you have to choose it in the settings and the black bar will not appear

Actually the fingerprint part of the screen lits up after every 5 seconds if you keep moving. I think that’s what messes up with the battery in standby.

Not like some reviewers just say "the screen is nice and crisp 480p, colors just pop" - in reality the screen is so shitty that you can't even different yellow from white or tell if the text is saying resume or restart.

Great review. As for the negative-nellies, ignore them. I watch all your videos from start to finish. Sure, you are the nit-picker champion of the World and THAT is a good thing! I think pointing out all those little things is great! If you didn't, then you would get folks whining and saying "why didn't you tell me this feature is broken", etc. Keep up the great work.

You can turn off the add by go to the setting of the app. Like mi video, music, or cleaner app. On the setting app and turn off the online recommendations.
