Xiaomi Mi A2 vs Mi A2 Lite - One Week Review!

I bought the Mi A2 Lite 4/64Gb because it has MicroSD slot + 2 SIM non-hybrid slots, phone jack, a 4000 mAh battery, higher resolution, higher screen to body ratio and density and it's a smaller phone. Apart from a performance difference which doesn't mean much if you're not a smartphone "gamer" and the cameras, the Mi A2 Lite is more attractive. I felt like this wasn't a good review in the way that it presented one being superior than the other failing to mention all the advantages of the Mi A2 Lite over the Mi A2.

You're right.For someone who play games on PC only, I find Mi A2 lite more useful..I would always trade phone gaming performance for great battery and size which fits in hand/pocket better

I have a mi a2 lite and it's a beautiful phone with a large battery, some chickens on pubg, smooth use and the camera can record in 4k with opencamera app, the pictures are very similar to Galaxy s8. If U are good with pubg 50-60 fps on smooth graphics U don't need 660. Mi a2 is a good phone but it's pricier too, and mi a2 lite still has advantages like battery, notch, brightness, compact, etc ...

I actually prefer the smaller but thicker form factor with a bigger battery. Phones have become a little too big and thin causing problems in the pocket. I had a bigger style phone before and found it restricting my movement when bending down if it was in my pocket and you need to use two hands sometime to really get the most out of the large screen. The iPhone SE is a nice size.

On the other hand, I keep my phones for as long as they work and meet my needs, which has meant almost 4 years for my Honor 4x. If it had more than 8GB storage, I wouldn't even think about getting a new one, so what if I curse myself in 2 years for not getting the one with a nicer camera?

CNC Scotland Maybe, but the A2's camera quality is unbeatable in its price range. Found out the A2 has no micro SD slot, so that's a big no for me. The A2 in the Body of the lite would just be perfect... Btw, a friend of mine has it too, and I kinda feel like the camera is a little delayed (like when moving right / left, shutter too). But I don't care that much about camera quality, it's nice to have a good one, but when I wanna take nice photos I take my dslr.

Ok.. Well for the sd card slot, if all you're using it for are pictures and video, then google photos has you covered. Also, if all you use are cheap earphones or headphones, you don't really need a headphone jack. P.S. If your car does not have bluetooth, Amazon has you covered. Look up bluetooth car adapters.

Great review! I love the fast format, no bull, all critical info covered and you helped me make my decision to go with the Mi A2. One thing-you didn’t mention the battery. The mi a2 lite has 4000 and the mi a2 has a 3300. The selling point on the lite is the battery, but the mi a2 is just better all around with exception to the battery. The Mi A2 Lite has a Snapdragon 625 which is an older processor now but still a fairly solid performer. The Mi A2 Lite should be fine for daily use, surfing, light gaming, and social media. It should also be a bit better at multitasking if you get the variant with 4 GB of RAM. I wouldn't recommend the Mi A2 Lite for heavy gaming or if you want to take the best photos. Pictures with the Mi A2 Lite seem fine when plenty of light is available. However, the camera of the Mi A2 Lite really struggles in low light conditions.

Noah Hood I’d say for daily use the Mi A2 Lite will work as well as the Mi A1, but with a far inferior camera. For lite games and stuff you should be fine. And yes the 4000 mAh battery is better, but that is really the only spec that is better on Mi A2 Lite.

Update: I purchased the Mi A2 Lite and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The battery life is fantastic. The cameras are good (definitely not the best out there but they get the job done). The phone is fast and responsive. I purchased the version with 4 GB of RAM. I believe the extra ram and stock Android aids in the snappy performance. For around $200 (lately it has been less than $200 on GearBest), you can't really find a much better phone.

thanks for the review. there is some things you failed to notice though. the lite has expandable storage while the standard A2 doesn't, also a considerable bigger capacity battery, and what closed the deal for me, it actually fits in one hand. i am used to write with only one hand, with the larger phone you WILL need to hold the phone with the other hand while tipping

Nice phone, but I just can’t recommend any SD 625 phones in 2018. It’s 636 or bust for all I’m concerned. I’m about to do a giveaway for 2 Redmi Note 6 Pro’s and that phone is under 200 USD and sports a SD636. Sorry, but the Mi A2 Lite is underpowered and just not worth it anymore!

Thank you, nice review. As far as I can see, on front side, A2 has an ambient light sensor, a proximity sensor and a camera. A1 had a problem - the proximity sensor was far from speaker and - depending where you keep the phone during call - it can fail to engage lock screen. Questions: where is the proximity sensor on A2 ? Near speaker or far right ? Also, does A2 Lite has Gorilla Glass?

Thanks for the great review! Do you or anyone reading, know if this phone is compatible with a 256 GB Samsung Evo Plus or Select U3 card? The sdcard differences by each manufacturer are extremely confusing and there's rarely a clear mention in the specs of phones that accept sdcard if they accept certain faster sdcard technology than others. I know the U3 line is better suited for 4k recording but I'm looking at it in the long run and plan to use this card interchangeably with my new Dell XPS 15 2in1 (9575) laptop as a secondary storage possibly for some editing and for extra storage of media and photos. I've also read that while some sdcard are faster they don't do very well with hundreds of smaller files like photos, so that's another grey area. But mainly would love to know if the Samsung Evo Plus or Select 256GB card is compatible with the Mi A2 Lite phone and the XPS 15 9575 2 in 1 laptop?

And the whole notion that most women prefer smaller phones really depends on location. In Hong Kong a lot of girls are walking around with the biggest phones. I see them on the trains and busses here all the time watching shows, and playing games etc. so it really does depend.

I'm not a xiaomi fanboy neither a user, but your review is very biased and doesn't have an apply in real life. Thanks to android one, the A2 lite can overpower a lot of phones with better processors for 2018 and most definitely 2019. Needless to say that the lite version offers a lot of advantages over the regular A2, which you didn't even mention. Also, the price tag of each device differs around the world and in many places, especially my country, the A2 lite is the best phone you can get for the money. If you want to be described as a "reviewer" or any form of "tech guy" try and be honest with your audience next time.

Both phones are nice, but I just can't really recommend the SD 625 to anyone other than a casual user, or someone not into tech. The Mi A2 Lite could also be a great secondary phone if you like stock android. But for me it's the Mi A2 between these two overall!

Neither phone supports the Miui version, but there is a trusted face in the trusted devices section that you can use. Hopefully the android P release will have a full face ID version built in.

I see a brighter screen on A2 Lite but on papers.. when i look at videos A2 looks way better. Still cannot decide which to buy. I really like USB type C and quick charge. (Specially when i have to use GPS)

Mum or grandma? This phone (A2 Lite) easily outperforms a Galaxy S6. I know people who are still rocking the galaxy S5 and iPhone 5, that's pretty bad/grandma like, but not the A2 Lite. For the price, it pretty much smashes any flahship from 2015 or earlier,
