There is no need for computer or custom command lines in this case. Once the app is connected to your projector, you're only one button click away from TWRP. -- Where can I download this application? Don't have a android phone, but can loan one from one of my friends. Have Wemax One Pro, and would really like to have English menus, and KZbin, but I'm so afraid to root the projector! For me many things on the XDA forum are in Chinese :-)) too. Also will ANY USB mouse do? Don't have one but will buy. I think I've must have seen your video about 20 times now! For example had to look up the meaning of many term, like ROM, OTA (over the air updates) ed. And still don't fully understand what ROM is! Many Thanks for your reply. Hi this is a great video and the only one of its kind on youtube. I will attempt this this coming weekend. I have a few questions.. (1) Can I use rainman to root the WEMAX ONE PRO? and (2) Is this reversible? (In case due to some incident .. say a power outage - can the projector get bricked?).. Actually a third one as well, I know from past experiences that netflix will not run on a rooted device. Is it the same here as well? Thank you in advance for your answers

1: Check the forum in description for latest compatibility 2: Yes you can always revert to factory and unbrick in case of error during install etc 3: AFAIK only older Netflix releases work but ideally you run netflix of another device, it is pretty slow on this projector hardware.

I can't get the projector into developer mode (Mijia 4K, Chinese), and it rejects the ABD connection when trying to connect. Is there a special way of enabling the developer mode? Tapping the android version 7 times does not seem to work.

You have to tap the build number, not the android version. I was able to do this via the alternative settings app. I installed this previously the enable the english menus. BR.

Go to 'SETTING' > 'ABOUT' tap few times on 'Device name' . Now go back to 'Account&Security' > 'ADB debugging' and Allow it . After reboot,you must turn it on again

With the new fw the pj does 65ms of input lag. The 4K model is 15ms stock. Game mode allows the older fw to sit at about 70 vs 150ms

@@supermadkid ah yes had to make an edit 150ms was original stock with no game mode. Game mode drops that to about half. And new fw with the root app that disables post processing gets you to 65.

Hi and thanks for this tutorial. It worked very well but I think I made some mistakes at minute 10.30 of the video: you say "select bootloader and recovery" and I selected both but there was already the check mark on "boot", and I didn't remove it... Also, I tried to select internal storage as the backup location, but it said "not enough space" so I chose the external storage. I followed correctly the rest of the tutorial. Now the problem is that it's very slow in turning on and off and it seems like it boots only if my external storage is mounted. If I try to turn on the projector without my USBdrive mounted on it, it starts the autofocus and after that it doesn't boot. The android settings still identify correctly the internal memory as "internal storage" and the USB drive as an external storage. What can I do?

@@faustociranni6244 You may want to consider doing a factory reset and starting fresh. I feel like you may have had apps or something taking up the storage. You definitely do not want to run off external media as this will slow things down quite a bit. Internal storage is akin to a slow SSD vs the the extra slow transfer rate of usb.

If you search on the forum some folks got lucky and found a working apk but really you want to dl it from the supplied menu. Otherwise it does not launch.

Hi, after viewing this I'm very tempted to take the plunge on the 4k version and use the "batman" rootkit. Just want to double check that the netflix and amszon prime video apps work once rooted. You mentioned that they do but just wondering if that was a mistake as the forums mentioned that there is issues with them? Checking as there is a good chance i misunderstood and that they werecomparing international to rooted.

so its kind if iffy. Amazon works for some content but will detect a rooted device and not work with other. Netflix you need to get a custom version from the links in the forums as the official app refuses to launch. I think it has to do with the older android tv version on the PJ vs what Netflix expects for the more recent ATV solutions. I predominantly use the PJ with my xbox one so I just use the app on the xbox vs the pj as its a lot faster this way.

1. Yes 2. Not sure you may be able to setup an automation using Tasker and a smart home app on the PJ. But otherwise I don't think network shutdown is a feature. With that said it's a rooted android device so likely if you can do a network shutdown on other Android devices you can do the same here.

sounds like you made a mistake somewhere so I would recommend following the tutorial in the forum I linked in the video description. Also note that sometimes it can take about 3-8 times before this works so once you are sure you have the steps down just keep trying it until it starts functioning as it should.

I have the 1080p black Wemax One model and one thing that isn't working for me is the automatic shut down after 10 minutes. I would really like this to work so I can use a universal remote for my entire system without having to go to the projector remote each time to turn it off. Does your hack allow for an automatic shutdown of the projector after inactivity?

I follow your instruction, but I don't see any files under "udisk", do you know why? I unplug the usb drive from the device and plug in the mouse, is that right? But if I don't plug in the mouse, how can I control the device? The instruction specifically says "a mouse will be required"... Thanks!

There's a solution for that mouse isue on the forum, as for finding the files under udisk make sure you ounted the usb earlier and try many many usb sticks. I can't explain why but these units are very particular about stick used

Is it located on the device (assuming the Magisk.zip file is copied over from the USB stick to the device automatically before root installation)? @@cr4zyw3ld3r yeah, there's the vava, the dell, the benq which is a short throw, and others in the pipeline that many think will be available by the end of the summer... thing is they all look pretty much the same to me, roughly the same laser tech and 0.47 pixel shifting chip (or 0.67 chip like the dell) with the only real difference being gui (and lag if you're a gamer, but i'm not convinced any will blow away another in that regard), so i'm not overly optimistic that one will surface that's clearly head and shoulders above the rest, seems like they'll all have roughly the same quirks that are apparently inherent with these type of ust projectors.

How do I stop the MiTV UI updates from trying to automatically install. This keeps happening and failing, due to the system being rooted I think!? I'd rather chose to search for an update and then install in my own time. Do not know if you can help, but I have the mijia youth projector (Chinese) but when doing the adb update for it to boot to the recovery, it reboots to the projector recovery instead. Do not know what I did wrong or if I need to change my thumb drive. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey thanks for detailed instruction man. Have you tried run Netflix after rooting and is video streamed with HD / 4K resolution? I m using Wemax One Pro (FMWS02C). I followed your instructions and xda thread. However after "Mount" followed by "Install" but "Magisk-v18.0.zip was not detected. it's completely empty, although I have extracted 'rainman_twrp_3.2.2.0.zip' to have 3 files at root of my usb (fat32 formatted). Stuck man!

Hi, I formatted my usb stick and managed to install root it. I tried Netflix and still cannot play in Hd/4k mode. Guess have to buy a Netflix certified device like chromecast to utilize this projector. Thanks again for your help!

This root method will only work on the newly released 4K model if you use the batman_twrp_3.2.2.0.zip file see the forum linked in vid desc for TWRP files for other models.

you definitely can but then the projector itself is still laggy for navigating menus and getting to settings. Plus since I do not speak Chinese or care for any of the shows or apps on there it is just unnecessary bloat. It also seems to me that there is a slight perceived decrease in input lag when gaming with all that junk gone. And for me sometimes its convenient to not have to plug an external device in since I move this PJ A LOT.

Hi. I’ve got the white/4K projector and desperate to be free from the bloat ware. I’ve followed your instructions which seems straight forward enough except I’m not sure if the MacBook needs to be also connected to the projector (via a usb cable)? I’ve got as far as the terminal commands and nothing seems to connect via the Wi-fi/network so think this could be the answer?

If you have an android mobile you can try to use the root app which you can find a link to in the forum i linked in the vid desc, also keep in mind you will need to use the batman_twrp file for the 4K model since mine is the 1080P one. Sometimes I found it easier to have a direct connection to the projector via switch or router. Wifi on these can be finicky.

Once projector on , I install Miprojectivy tool apk and root checker apk After that I go to Magisk app and go to superuser and unlock aptoide TV app , MiProjectivy tool app and root checker app. As the result , I check with root checker - It 's ok already root but when I go to Miprojectivy tool app and check root- It said your device is not root. ( I don't freeze stock app and freeze stock launcher and freeze leanback launcher yet.) next , I reboot projector after that projector become flashing every secound and ram is using full capacity 100% as every apps are running. Now I am going to recovery and restore mi system. As the result , projector become normal as mi. Please you kindly add what I am doing wrong with my step.

@@pongpolc.8696 You don't have to use ATV launcher it's just one option there are other launchers on Aptoide. My guess is either your fw version is unsupported or you made a mistake somewhere during twrp install.

Hard to say you need to make keystone adjustments. Also I found that roll down projector screens always have a curvature even with side tensioners. So that could play a role but I don't know your setup so it is hard to say. Need more info.

@@ThorhaxGaming hold off on that one for now. I have heard that it can only do 4K 30Hz properly at this time and has some issues with 3D and other small bugs. But you can check in the forums in my description for details on how to use this root method and which model numbers are supported. The 1080P steps will work as described in this video!

The root does not have anything to do with the keystone correction. That has to do with the firmware revision of the PJ. If you look at the forums in the description there is a whole discussion on this topic and the solution is to be on a certain FW version to have full access to keystone correction. You should check there for the solution to your issue, I believe the later FW revisions removed some of that original multi point functionality.

I dont recall off the top of my head, but I have seen it mounted with custom mounts to be upside down. However this is not the ideal projection mode for this unit. Nor will you really find a screen that will work with it unless you take a CLR screen and turn it upside down. Especially if you have ceiling lights this will negatively impact the top mount projection brightness and quality.

@@cr4zyw3ld3r projector arrived yesterday, mounting holes are indeed supplied on the bottom of the projector as expected given the pj settings have the option to select ceiling mount... not sure why you would say "this is not the ideal projection mode for this unit"? long before ust projectors became home theater options, they were used in classrooms, boardrooms, and for general business purposes, as such they were often mounted above the screen, and there are plenty of ust pj mounts/arms available for purchase? lenticular screen? just reverse it.

But again this will vary from room to room and by personal preference. Too many variables to account for. If you like the ceiling mount option by all means go for it. I have found they work great with my Oppo player for 3D had no luck running 3D blu rays through my consoles. Some have suggested using bluetooth glasses vs DLP 3D glasses. I ended up getting the Netflix app via google search and then dumping on USB to install. I cannot recall what version number I have. Will need to get back to you on this. 3D mode depends on the firmware version you are running. If I recall the later Xiaomi updates ruined 3D mode. And on the new 4K model it seems there issues with it atm.

@@spkim4599 hmm did you reboot after running the adb command and making sure it went through ok? If you just reboot from adb this could happen. You want to make sure you have installed everything to the correct places as well otherwise the PJ does not know what to boot which would then kick you back into the recovery menu. If you are using older usb sticks I would recommend going out to buy a new one and try again with that.

I tried this, got the box rooted, magisk installed but got stuck on reboot as google account update after magisk update gets stuck. Had to reboot to recovery and restore. Also using the mouse and the USB stick at the same time is only possible with a USB hub as there is a single port. Is there an update to run Google services?

@@aceashutosh to be honest with you even for me sometimes the process just fails on my batman pj it took close to 8 tries to get it to run smoothly and something like 6 tries on this rainman machine. So I would recommend to keep at it until it finally works. Give the PJ a full shutdown inbetween unplug from wall and let it idle for 15-20 sec and then attempt again.

You need To activate developer mode by going into tbe android menu abd I believe clicking on the kernel # multiple times that or on the android version. If you did it right there Will be text that says you are now a developer. Then you click back, go into Dev options and enable USB debugging

From where are you installing the playstore? To get to keystone correction you need long press the back button(but!) if you are on newer projector fw they have removed the 8 point keystone correction.

Install on Magisk v.20 zip and then reboot the system 4. Once projector on , I install Miprojectivy tool apk and root checker apk After that I go to Magisk app and go to superuser and unlock aptoide TV app , MiProjectivy tool app and root checker app. As the result , I check with root checker - It 's ok already root but when I go to Miprojectivy tool app and check root- It said your device is not root. ( I don't freeze stock app and freeze stock launcher and freeze leanback launcher yet.) next , I reboot projector after that projector become flashing every secound and ram is using full capacity 100% as every apps are running. Now I am going to recovery and restore mi system. As the result , projector become normal as mi. Please you kindly add what I am doing wrong with my step.

That's why there is an international version now. The only real difference is lack of 3D. Otherwise to the end user it's identical but ships with English menus and Android 8.0.

Hi to everyone and especially to the creator of this post, I did follow all the steps but I could not find the Magisk zip file in the udisk as described in the video. This is the last step to get my 4k projector to root. There is only 1 USB port at the back and i can not use usb-hub to expand the ports as the projector only response to either mouse or USB stick. please help. I am using " batman_twrp_3.2.2.0b.zip" and put the latest Magisk zip file in the root USB stick as described. mine is WEMAX L1668FCF (A300) 4K LASER PROJECTOR.

Try a Bluetooth mouse and hou should be OK. Also try multiple usb sticjs this pj is very particular about the stick used for some reason.

Only if you make the Magisk Zip file appear in Udisk then i can finalize my root process. please help. i am very appreciated. is there any other way to install magisk zip file if it not appeared in the USB stick (udisk)

I liked it before, but now I love it.. the last problem I have is, that I can not connect my PS4 Controller. tried it in the settings and with the sixaxis Controller app. Only with sixaxis Controller app through the USB is working (without sound).but when I try with bloutooth the app says: could not read local bluetooth address - using fallback method. can someone help me?

Hmm, it just might not be supported with their bluetooth hw/fw You may want to ask the folks on the forums. I mainly just plugin my ps4 and browse content with the controller exclusively though the ps4. There has to be someone on the forums who could be of more use than me in this regard.

So I've tried the method as outlined in this video twice now, but each time time I get to the point where I've rooted my device (the and I've installed (I think?) the alternative launcher (ATV) or googleplay app (although unlike youtube and netflicks which are showing and running- these are not on my launcher), the projector just crashes and I've had to factory reset twice now! I'm running the MJJGTYD501FM (black) 4k model using the latest Magisk Version (v20.1 stable) and the batman_twrp_3.2.2.0b.zip. The android build number is 6.0.1. Can anyone help?

Keep in mind though that unlike just projectors from the likes of Sony for example this is a quasi 4K unit because it uses a dlp pixel shift to achieve 4K. It will not be easy to notice the difference but I am just letting you know. However compared to the $10,000 Sony this will have a faster response time and far better colors because it's a full rgb laser source vs blue lasee with color wheel. It should also be brighter.

@@majidk.9186 That is also a pixel shift projector, but while your image quality will increase it's HDR support is limited, its still a color wheel single light source which limits brightness and color reproduction. In addition to that some users report more input latency on the a300. In my opinion hisense is the better buy. But I recommend you look around for RGB DLP projectors and do your own reading so you can get an idea.

PLS HELP i have followed, somehow, the steps, but something went wrong when installing magisk (i assume). now i have the ProjA1tools app. but the launcher did not change. I am not able to run the root device from the app, it says "this app can't root your device". When trying to get to the TWRP at first it just got stuck after it loaded on screen, but now i just get error=closed in cmd. xiaomi 4k projector MIUI 1.3.105 android 6.0.1

after flashing the system on reboot. was having issues installing magisk.it said it loaded it but doesnt. ended up loading it from aptoide and seem to be making some headway now. moment i manually installed it from aptoide. i could gain rooting. (super user access) also youtube in order for it to work couldnt use the one from the menu used the latest updated versions
