Xiaomi Smart Speaker with Google Home?! Full Walkthrough review [Xiaomify]

Totally unexpected, Xiaomi sent me a new smart speaker for the global market. I was very surprised to see this one actually works with the Google Assistant instead of Xiaomi's own Xiao-Ai engine. Is it any good? Let's find out!
The smart speaker is not super large and has a 12W - 2.5" speaker driver which does give it decent sound. It's got control buttons on top of the device, but as its a smart speaker it has two built-in microphones to pick up voice commands. As it works with the Google Assistant engine all you have to say is "Hey Google" to wake it up and give it commands.
The commands are exactly the same as with any other Google Smart home Speaker and it can do all the things like give you the weather forecast, read out news, read out your calendar, answer questions, set alarms, play music from Spotify, and control your smart home devices.
I have added my Xiaomi account and my yeelight account to control my smart home products. It works very well, but only with a handful of products as not all the products from the China Mainland server are currently supported by Xiaomi on the Google services. It works well with all the products that are available on the global servers though.
Overall I really like this speaker. I love how I can pair two of them for stereo sound (that must be really amazing but unfortunately I only have one here). I like the build quality and the overall feel of the speaker. The only thing that still disappoints me is that Xiaomi does not have support all their China Mainland products (not a hige problem for everyone though) but I would have loved to see that.
I was also surprised to see it has Google Assistant as the AI engine, and not a new, English, version of Xiaomi's Xiao-Ai engine, but who knows that is still something that we can see in the future someday....
If that day ever comes you can be sure I will be the first to do a video about that as well though :)

Symfonisk has two drivers and is focused on music, not being smart so there is no way it would sound worse than this one.

They have added a ton of items to the global server in the last 12 months but I agree would be nice to just have everything work on the global server from the outset. Im in the UK and switched all my stuff from the CN server to the UK one about a year ago. Oddly they have added some china only items like the new ZigBee hub yet other items aren't on the global server yet. I'm looking forward to a sound comparison next to Google's own home mini. I know this wouldn't be worth it for you in China though but thanks for the video man keep up the great reviews 👍

Thanks! Yes I agree that many more items have been added to the global server, but I would need to make some sort of seperation to have a testing account (on global) and my home setup. So might have to investigate all the options a bit more in the future. (I do hope they will add every single product on global, or allow CN server to have all products show up in Google) That would make everyone's life so much easier :)

@@xiaomify try the android app: Island, I used it to clone the mi home app, and that works, in the 1st I have china server logged in, and in the cloned mi home app I now use the eu server global products. This way my google home also picks up all Xiaomi linked devices all together also for google voice commands. Greets another Dutch Xiaomi lover and tester 😎😁

@@Sl00ki I just tried it.. On my Samsung it created a work profile where I can install apps for second time.. So you can have two Mi Home apps with it and to be logged in China Mainland and Europe at the same time. This however didn't solve my problem as my CN gadgets still are on the CN server and do not show up in Google.

I've got two of those Xiaomi speakers connected in stereo mode and also got two Nest Audio's. Those from Xiaomi sound way more clear and the bass is awesome, but not too much. You can also easily change the bass and treble in the Google Home app. I was able to purchase two of them for only 80 euros in total! :)

Btw, I bought the Nest Audio after getting the Xiaomi ones as I wanted to compare them. I ended up returning the Nest Audio's which I did not expect at all :P

Hi! I got one a month ago and I love it. Getting another one to setup them up together. I only could set it up with the Google Home App. There was no way I could set it up with Mi Home App. My Mi Home App is setup up in Singapore because it was the requirement to setup the Mi Smart Home Kit that I bought in Uruguay. I also got the Mi Smart Speaker in Uruguay. Maybe the Mi Home App cant find the speaker because of this. Any ideas?
