Great review. Given it's their first attempt, this car is phenomenal. For people who can't afford a Porsche, who cares if it's derivative, most cars are to varying degrees. The exterior and interior look good on camera. I prefer the wood effect plastic over the shiny piano black stuff the more premium brands use. The soft hand grabs aren't such a bad idea. They're positioned at head height so bumping your head on a hard hand grab might occur, not a problem with these. That physical button add-on for the display screen should be standard IMO. The add-on display pads for rear seat passengers is great. It would be good if this was an option for the front passenger as well. I wonder how much additional down force that spoiler generates. I looks a bit like a gimmick🤔. I do worry about a greater incidence of high speed crashes in these powerful new cars. They're relatively cheap, ridiculously powerful, and perhaps instil an over-confidence in the cars handling and the drivers ability. A potential recipe for disaster. If you do a review of an electric car with the under-body LED's and NOX release add-ons, can you please shave your head, get a head tattoo, and some kind of edgy beard trim, and wear one of Wheelsboys Hawaiian shirts.

Good analysis. After all, cars usually crash on their own and I may suggest the abilities and overconfidence of the drivers are a high percentage and add to that human errors are mainly to blame. One thing I learned is that if the car is not marketed as a track car, and you don’t know what it takes to drive fast other then pressing the gas pedal, then don’t take it to the track, period. Even for performance oriented cars, I would recommend having someone who knows their stuff examining the entire brake system before you go. Take the new M4 for example, many people don’t know that there is a cover in the front wheel arch that you should remove to open the channel which leads to an intake at the front bumper to cool the brake rotors. And because of the fact that the new M4 is brake by wire, the system automatically adjusts the pressure on the callipers by computer, hence it is really hard for amateur drivers to realize that the brakes are over heating until total failure. This is not a problem just for Xiaomi, it is just a problem that is becoming increasingly common due to EVs in general introducing power figure that was obviously reserved for selected few in the not so distant past, but at a much more accessible price. And therefore, you get more drivers who have no respect for speed and power, handling the kind of power that they are not supposed to possess.

@ChinaDriven21 күн бұрын
answered both in the video Edit: Seems the original comment changed a little. In the video I clearly stated that brakes for road going cars are made for on-road performance, and it’s unreasonable to assume they can keep up with on-track demands. And I stated anyone who tracks a car knows you need to at least upgrade the brake pads, brake fluid and even better the brake lines to stainless steel. However on the flip side. Xiaomi enjoyed a lot of viral ads and videos they put out of the SU7 Max on track. Of course there are small disclaimers, but we know in reality people don’t read such information. So it wasn’t surprising to see people take than to the track emulating what they had seen online only to have brake problems. That was obviously going to happen because people are dumb. Lol

chinese consumers are just freakazoids now when it comes to new tech in general, esp when it's from a top domestic brand. e.g. shooting rifles on huawei mate60pro's to test its kunlun glass's extreme durability, even driving cars over it to see if it breaks, driving byd u8 on waters. basically just too extreme testing on national brands bc maybe they are already fed up with the image in the past that chinese products have been breaking down easily, etc. and they want to prove otherwise. in this xiaomi su7 case, i think many users really abused the brembo brakes too much by testing the braking distance and averaging more than 20+ tests to confirm the 33ish m result on paper. ofc others found this absurd bc you never do this to a toyota or an iphone just to prove a point but that's about it.
@ChinaDriven4 ай бұрын
The brake failures were due to the brake pads not the brembo supplied callipers. And the videos of the pads disintegrating were mainly on track usage. Many claiming they weren't lasting for more than a lap. Xiaomi is already offering brake pad and brake fluid upgrades to owners. So they've kind of admitted that the pads are not up to standard inline with the cars performance.

@@ChinaDriven Come on, the fact of the matter now is that there are people who have gone up to 270KM/H in Russia in an SU7, and there are people who still maintain a 33m braking distance in China after braking a dozen times in a row. @ChinaDriven3 ай бұрын
what prejudice? MULTIPLE videos of brake PADS disintegrating on track on Chinese social media. It's not prejudice to talk about it, and as I stated in the video, on road I had no problem with them. The fact that Xiaomi is now offering upgraded pads and fluid should be clue enough that the reports of those pad failures has some merit. And as I stated quite clearly, people shouldn't be expecting stock brakes to handle hard track work. However the fact is that Xiaomi's brakes have no problems on a daily basis I don't see the need for Xiaomi to launch these things because 3rd party manufacturers will do it. They could have made people buy SU7 ULTRA too, but they still listened to their users and did this. The SU7 ultra broke the Nurburgering record not the max. The ultra has carbon ceramic brakes and is designed for the track whereas the su7 max is marketed as a sporty family sedan. Also Xiaomi has offered customers a free brake upgrade for the su7 max which is worth 550 usd. The 4 piston brembo brakes are more than sufficient for normal use because the regenerative braking on an EV does close to 50% of the braking. The Chinese youtubers who crashed them (only 2 have crashed due to braking failures out of 120000 sold this year) both said that the brakes were sufficient for road use and the one said that the car warned him minutes before the failure but he kept pushing it in order to break his record around the track which was stupid. The Tesla model S plaid also had brake failures around the track and that car has double the power with small brakes. If you track any normal car and push it the brake pads will wear out and the brake fluid will boil, this is common sense. People are just uninformed about the situation.
@ChinaDriven24 күн бұрын
So what I said then? lol. Yes the Ultra set the NBR record, but I didn't say the MAX did. The Ultra was still under wraps when this was recorded. I said Xiaomi had several adverts around with it on track. Ofc there are disclaimers, ofc no one reads them. ofc road brakes are not designed for high track work. The problem supposedly is not the callipers but the pads themselves. In the pin comment you will see I wrote about the upgrade package that was introduced around or just after i finished shooting this. Xiaomi originally offered a paid upgrade for dealership install, which consists of brake fluid and pad upgrades. They may very well be offering it as free now. I haven't checked since I recorded this.

@ChinaDriven I did read your comment before. Sorry this wasn't a criticism of the video and yes the marketing is a little bit misleading so I totally agree with that. I'm just pointing out some things I've read online 😂😅
@ChinaDriven24 күн бұрын
No Problem. I tried to address the brakes subject as succinctly as possible in the video. But even with me saying it was about the brake pads, the amount of comments about Brembo callipers shows people either didn't pay attention or don't understand brake components. I've see Chinese social media talk about how the xiaomi they are heavily chamfered, and they are, more so then any other OEM pad i've seen. This ofc will reduce brake squeal, but it also reduces pad contact surface area.But I don't think this is really part of the "problem." The fact the pads are disintegrating also points to the pads composition, which I suspect are soft for road use, and fail under sustained high heat, like track work. I just wanted to point out both sides. Road brakes generally aren't designed for track use but on the other hand, If you constantly have ads showing your car on track don't be surprised when people take it to the track then moan about shortcomings of track performance. Xiaomi basically admitted the lack of braking performance for track but offering the upgrade, specifically aimed at the pads and replacing brake fluid for high temp brake fluid. As I said in the video, at the end of the day, buy the Xiaomi SU7 MAX, its seriously cheap for the performance and pay another $3-4K for a full big brake kit, pads, fluid and stainless steel lines and its still a performance bargain! But I suspect, better pads, stainless steel lines and high temp brake fluid will be more than enough for most people.
@Demertech24 күн бұрын
@ChinaDriven yes I agree 100%. I'm hoping the car eventually comes to South Africa so I can buy it 😂. They have "supplier quality issues similar to Tesla" (Who also used Brembo brakes.... and if you check, they are used by..... Ferrari, so you MIGHT think that a new manufacturer would be quite responsible in specifying "The company that supplies Ferrari" ? That being the case, Is the problem with the car manufacturer? I imagine they provide the weight of the vehicle, performance specs and Request that Brembo provide a suitable sytem from Hydraulics, to pads and discs?

So what's the criticism ?
@ChinaDriven4 ай бұрын
Issues reported with "thin paint," build quality issues with the front fender panels which seems to pop off. And the biggest and latest is brake pads disintegrating (albeit from track use.) But as I explained in the video, although the performance of the pads only need to handle on-road performance demands, brake pads disintegrating in a single track lap still feels quite poor. And I think consumers were not impressed because how much advertisement showed the SU7 on track, and the amount the performance was talked about. This has prompted discussion on chinese social media talking about companies shoving so much power into these EVs, but neglecting the braking performance.

@@ChinaDriven aren’t these the same brakes on European luxury and super cars ?
@ChinaDriven4 ай бұрын
@@kevbrown1867 So brembo is a brake manufacturer and will design or sell calipers/brakes to OEMs. The actual issue with the brakes is not the caliper housing but the actually brake pads. They seem to be super soft to reduce brake squeal. But this means they don’t last long. Normally on road EV brake performance is a mixture of brake regeneration and physical braking using the pads. On track you can imagine people are turning off or turning down brake regen and the pads just don’t hold up to continuous high temp high pressure.

With Chinese products, YOU do the R&D and QC. When there's enough complaints and feedback, they make changes.
@ChinaDriven22 күн бұрын
Your ideas are outdated about Chinese products. Domestically there has been a big push to increase quality of products in the last 8 years. So I’d say it’s really not generally true that Chinese domestically produced products are poor quality. And we can see that with the crash test safety scores in the Europe NCAP. 5 Stars, topping the list in most cases.
