Thank you for watching! In this video, I crafted a 1.75-meter single-piece straight bow from Tuo wood, designed with tapered limbs for both elegance and functionality. The bow measures 175 cm with a draw weight of around 40 pounds. Crafting a single-piece bow has its challenges, especially in selecting straight-grained, well-seasoned wood, dried for at least two years. I’ll guide you through every step, from shaping the limbs to finalizing the design. If you’re passionate about traditional bow-making or curious about the process, don’t miss it! Hope you enjoy the video and feel inspired to create your own masterpiece!

I remember putting up a half dozen beautiful red cedar logs to dry and age properly for turning into a single-piece bow. When they were finally ready, I had about two weeks left of classes before I could start on my project. My mother burned them for firewood somewhere in that two weeks. That ended my bow project in a hurry and started my desire to live alone in the mountains... Now that I live alone in the mountains, I've begun scoping out trees. Found a nice hickory recently that might just have to get cut down and stacked to dry. Never let go of your dreams.

I watched a Yakutian cross country ski-maker, and he insisted the best skis are made from unbroken wood grain because you can get them lighter while retaining the maximum strength. To achieve this, he had made a special flat-one-sided seemingly dull axe which he didn't swing, but rather placed and struck. He then finished it with a draw knife similar to the one you seemed to use, which is probably what you seem to be achieving?

I'm in the middle of making a 2 m laminated bow and it's my first attempt and it's turning out okay. I had to laminate it because it was store-bought wood and it was the only would I had access to so I bought it and let it chill for about a year before I laminated it and started shaping it and I'm about 75% done with it before I start tuning it. I was thinking of adding one more piece of lamination just to clean up any nicks or parts of the lamination where because I'm new I might have damages a little.

What a beautiful result, especially when you give your working process a little cinematographic flavor. Just a humble notice tho, if you intend to go with oil finish it's better to not use a high grit sandpaper. 200 is generally the top border. A higher grid will close up the pores of the wood with very fine wooden dust and it'll prevent oils from soaking deep into the surface. Edit: I'm not arguing against the fine sending, it is important to get a good feel for the grip. Just saying that it would be better to do a 180 grit, apply oil, let it soak first and *then* do the finer sending and apply oil again.

For the Bowyers out there. TUO WOOD was used according to the description. Looks alot like Osage- but at 6:46 We can see the Sap Wood still intact for the back of the bow. If Osage I think the maker would know that it is not ideal for Sap wood to be the back. Just an observation. Great job all around though. Liked the use of clamps instead of a vice
