one of the things that makes this so heartwrenching is you can very much tell that Ruyi was angry and sad by the simple fact that she broke down and cried heavy. Her character is always composed and barely cries but this one one of the few times which she does and everytime that happens you can't help but cry with her. Lin yunche was a good, no, he was a great man, amazing even. Honestly, if there was a way for ruyi and yunche to end up together i'd have loved it. It was painful to watch how quickly the emperor turned away her love and his love for her and exchange it for power and more women. Though in some part it's not his fault.

Not just this, but the fact that he deliberately keeps coming over to her palace to provoke her and Yunche to make them suffer more was just beyond cruel. Even when Empress Dowager forced either Ruyi or her aunt to die, it wasn’t near as cruel as this and Ruyi still had her bearing.

Very hard to watch these episode. The guard saved Ruyi and the emperor's life many times and in return he is mutilated, tortured and finally killed. Even if Ruyi is the empress, she has to bend over to the emperor's will. I'm glad she got the last laugh at the end.
