This is seriously one of my favorite scenes. A pure love between adopted child and mother, challenging that unhealthy belief that only blood relations matter. And Ling getting dragged into knowing her place. She's literally just the Emperor's whore, indulging his ego and stupidity to get ahead, and has zero political importance, but she really thought she could order around servants to slap a high-ranked princess. The look on her face when her household pressured her into calming down, LMAO, she really thought she was a kweeeeen and got slapped back to reality. The Empress Dowager settling the matter is just icing on the cake.
