It's a lot crueler than that, they cut the scene because it was too bloody. Ruyi actually broke A'ruo's nails, thats why you see her painfully growling on the ground. Also Ruyi used the "cat punishment" which is to put A'ruo in a bag with a few cats, then smash them with a stick so that the cats would scratch fiercely on A'rou, that's why she has so many claw-like scars in the cold palace scene.

@@mizbootsie8175 Me too. Ruyi was too nice and never fierce enough, in my opinion. She played mostly a defense game in the harem instead of going on offense against those she knew who were her enemies or knew would eventually cause problems for her and those she protected. Even at the end, I was irritated with her. I get that she was heartbroken as she finally gave up hope on the man she once loved and just plain done, but it wasn't just about her. There were other people who were hurt when she fell out of favor with the Emperor and thus lost power to Huang Guefei.

@@TheMotherofTacos actually In the last part where arou was in the cold palace u will clearly see her faces left with many scars . the actual scenario is like this for the actual “cat punishment “ : is they put feral , And hungry cats, in the big bag where arou was in and den the ppl outside will use a stick like a baseball bat hit the bag .So that the cats wud scratch her consistently. The facts is the cat punishment according to the actual story when the criminal face cat punishment the cat will scratch and leave no trace of skin on the criminal faces, leg hand etc . Those slave that took arou out cannot even recognise her that’s what the actual story said. Also the director of this show afraid ppl wud mimic this part so they decided to remove this part of the show .
