My Xyphoid process has been hurting for 8 weeks or more now. I have serious GERD and been working to get it better. Drinking only distilled water helps. I had noticed pain in that area after doing abs a lot in the gym. I stopped that immediately and worked on posture at home and in car. I started breathing exercises and pushed in that area which I may have a hiatal hernia too but not sure. This video is great I'm going to try it. I also posted to a few other people comments about raising my hands above my head and putting them in a doorway to stretch the pec muscles and Xyphoid process. The slight stretching 5-6 times a day has helped this area.

It's important to be gentle when pressing on tight muscles and remember that we cannot MAKE change happen. We can be with the body using touch, imagery, breath and our presence, and that is what creates change. I suggest use the above mentioned tools leaving out the touch for a couple days and see if you start to feel better soon.

Is it possible for it to harden/get bigger when the breath is more dysfunctional? I find when extremely stressed my breath obviously becomes frozen and super shallow and then the xyphoid kind sticks out. Also, could you comment on how on one side of it and reaching to the ribs I’m a bit sore and it’s “harder” under the skin (like the area of a few quarters). Is that maybe fascia hardened? When I press next to it in the area while doing the deep breath/stretch you show us my right side the soarness spreads across my right chest diaphragm, almost like a trigger point? Thank you so much for this video. I had a traumatic experience a few years ago and ended up with TMJ and host of issues from not managing my anxiety and using chest breath.

@erins.54206 жыл бұрын
I do too! Mine is hard like bone. I’ve had pain that wraps around to my back and up my chest to my neck. I’ve seen Drs for this pain since I was 9 and I never imagined it could be from this little piece at the end of my sternum. I just watched a few other videos and there is a surgery for it. I don’t recall having it my entire life and can’t say I have but I remember having the bump since I was 7 or 8. I’m curious if this is a genetic thing or trauma induced. Just the bump has stopped me from wearing swimsuits or fitted clothing and being comfortable in the nude in front family or friends or partners since I can remember as a kid because I knew the bump wasn’t normal. I think I just had an epiphany that this could be at the heart of most all my issues. Thanks for commenting, just from that and this reply I’ve come to some real potential answers to issues that I’ve spent 10 years having Drs try and figure out. It’s weird that I’ve never mentioned the bump because it just cartilage right how could that cause muscular pain in my back, chest and what feels like constricted breathing when “spasms” got to the point I felt Finger like sensations wrapping around my neck and unbelievable pain fanning my upper back from around my ribs in the front. Wow double thank you to you both. Typing it out and thinking, I might have solved what 11 Drs and 10+ years haven’t been able to.

Exactly the same symptoms here. Just to the left it's like crunchy sound. If I push in the area it goes away the pain. Honestly if you have GERD like me and lift weights.
