@@xisumavoid you could swap the colors of the armor stands in places where you're allowed to go one armor stand back versus having to start all over in a section or just add a rule that says you have to hit every armor stand.

I have one suggestion to Mace Race. Players may practise a lot and do a few races when you are not there. To make sure the Maces don't get too low on durability and break, you could install a XP Station near the entrance (Joel sells xp stations (he can build one) in his new XP shop). This way players can continue to play without being afraid of the mace breaking or needing to go repair them

I think the problem can be solved by a simple rule: "You cannot skip any armorstands by running"
@JBC352Ай бұрын
I was thinking just in the affected sections, he could put down some distinctly different colored blocks like black or yellow wool or quartz as the course ground (except the ones under the armor stands to keep the copper blocks) as where you can’t jump from, since the issue only affects the areas right before a 1 block drop in elevation.
@thorgil8190Ай бұрын
You could put pointed dripstone or small amethyst buds on the ground right in front of the armour stand. This way players will hit the ground before they can hit the armour stand again. The amethyst buds also would emit some light, sadly only light level 1, so you might need some more glow lichen in other spots. (If you take bigger buds / cluster then they go up to light level 4)

Most game designers welcome players who think like that. That's part of the testing process and shows time and attention were put into finding contingencies. Not having testers like this is how we get buggy, exploitable messes like a lot of the modern Sonic games.

@@timwoods2852 That makes sense, and I'd welcome that too, because they are very helpful. I guess my perspective comes from the writer in me. I'm working on a story, and it would really hurt if someone found a plot hole that I couldn't fix. Luckily, I haven't come across that problem, but that's neither here nor there. I guess my point is that though it is definitely helpful to have those kinds of players, it would still hurt.

@MazarRackhamАй бұрын
To fix the one block jump exploit, place honey blocks underneath a bottom copper slab, and players can only jump 1/2 up, similar to the powdered snow and carpet mechanic you showed earlier. Maybe you've got to raise or lower it by half a slab, but it can be completely hidden and maintain the color palette.
@AstroplatypusАй бұрын
Sprint jumping could still get them far enough to bypass this
@OceanBagelАй бұрын
For the one-block jumps, you could simply flatten out the ground so that there's nothing to jump off, or alternately if you want a more high-tech solution, you could make it so the ground retracts when it senses footsteps. This would need to be calibrated so that it doesn't detect spectators, but it would mean you get to keep the aesthetics while the players are doing it properly while preventing the cheese if the players are walking straight to the end. Also although it wasn't mentioned, an easy idea to prevent jumping off the sides would be to place glass blocks along the sides to a sufficient height to prevent players from getting up there.
@freshbeanz1090Ай бұрын
I glad ren won. He has been practicing to complete the track in 1 go, without messing up.
@dhi_holoАй бұрын
I think the simple form of the solution to the Etho skip is simply a rule saying you can't jump off the track blocks to hit an armour stand further in the course. Going backwards is allowed (so the staircases are valid), but you either can jump off the platform blocks, or hit the armour stands while already airborne from other armour stands, to move forwards through the track, that's the limits The only potential issue is effectively reverse etho skip (where the raised stands are, jumping backwards to do it, rather than returning to the platform), but I'd say it's closer to the same energy as skipping a stair, and having to turn around twice probably would be slightly slower than just doing it properly in the first place

I think the easiest and best fix for Etho Skip (™) would be to colour-code ledges you can jump of to hit armor stands. You don't have to colour-code whole sections or anything or redesign sections, it's just like in Assassin's Creed or other games, a bit of colour on edges of platforms that you can jump off of. Moreover, you could colour them differently, for example gold for unoxidized and iron for oxidized lane, or crimson and warped wood etc. This would help to also name the lines, because let's be fair - "unoxidized vs oxidized lane" is harder to say than "silver vs gold line" or "warped vs crimson lane" etc.
@LegendAeternusАй бұрын
Maybe put cut copper on the edge of each of the sections where you can jump off backwards. It would be simple and consistent with the design language at the start of all the sections.

You could put a bridge connecting the two sides at the end and add a podium for the trophy like how fall guys has the crown at the end and first to touch it wins

For that one section in particular (the first one Etho explotied), I would take out the middle stair bits and just leave the armor stands floating in the air. To prevent players from jumping off the stairs leading back, you could also put a mini bubble elevator in lieu of stairs back up to the platform you start from.

So much theorizing when the answers are on the wiki, "The mace does a smash attack when it is used after the player has fallen 1.5 blocks or more" The player jump is 1.25 blocks so in theory you could even just jump off a few layers of snow and get enough fall distance, it'll be tough to time though The official Minecraft wiki has had this info since before the full release of 1.21, they keep it incredibly up to date with snapshots as well. Surprised the snapshot man isn't up-to-date with this info!

A simple way to signify where you can jump from is to change the color of the floor (so not every block, just a small amount) in those sections or the color of the floor in the sections you're not allowed to jump in. You're already doing that with the raised platforms between the sections.
@dxjxc91Ай бұрын

i think the easiest way to denote that a section can't be skipped would be to just use the other lanes colour armstand. so the copper lanes unskipable armstand pillars are the oxide version and vise versa.
@jeffreyblack666Ай бұрын
The simple way to indicate it is to use a type of block. I would suggest a mesh block. If they are on a mesh block, they can jump from it to use the mace. If they aren't they can't. Or a general rule of you can jump backwards, but not forwards, and indicate where you can jump forwards.
@yawnbergАй бұрын
To prevent jumping off of certain blocks, maybe make them bottom slabs on top of honey blocks where possible.
@Ivan1_Ай бұрын
Solution: where it goes up and then down (which allows the shortcut), move the first 2 armour stands 2 blocks down so that it only goes up, or move just the middle one 2 blocks down so that you can only skip the first one. The shortcut will no longer be possible. This solution does have a drawback: if you fail, you don't have to return to the start of the section, because the same trick will be possible when going backwards - but this could actually be allowed, because you already lose lots of time by turning back, and also you probably have to hit the armour stand twice to turn back again.
@gauwalАй бұрын
the easy way to fix it is to say "you can only jump from the fully oxidized copper (or cleen copper depending on the lane) since the obstacle are on different materials. The just add a small strip of "jump allowed" blocks (oxidized or cleean depending) on the edges of the platforms you're allowed to jump backwards (hope this makes sense) Only like 50 block per lanes to change
