Actually... the time to take a stand was when they said "you must register". Almost everyone just rolled over and allowed the thin end of the wedge to be fully inserted. Since then all they've had to do is apply a little more pressure to drive the point home :-/

So many random people who own a drone and don't have Part107 are going to have the cops called on them that enforcement will be impossible. DJI continues to sell Mini 2 and 3s that will flood the air with legal, non complaint calls of drones.

Here's a worst case situation: You fly your drone at a local park (with ID) from 7:00 to 7:15, then go home. At 7:20 a non ID drone fly's at the same park and scares Mom and her new baby. Who are the police going to hold accountible ? You! Because you were the only one in the database aound that time.

• In the "friendly" Danny might be tased, tackled, and beat (light to medium severity). THEN they'd figure out the federal charges, probably at least domestic terrorism. Whatever might "stick". Much later at the trial, his lawyer will bring up how Danny was following the law, and only if law enforcement had used the system in place they would have known Danny was operating under the law. • Now, hear this tragic tale: A local group is using drones to distribute illegal drugs. Being inconsiderate criminals it turns out that not only are the drones they use unregistered but also do not have Remote-ID modules. The criminals delivered some drugs to one particular property via drone. Witnesses saw a drone come over the property and drop something. Other witnesses said they saw someone operating a drone nearby. Coincidentally on that same day a father was operating his camera drone in the adjacent park. He was getting footage of his kid kicking a soccer ball around as that is their latest passion. He being a law-abiding citizen has registered his drone, AND it send's out Remote-ID data. Two weeks later during the investigation a detective does a "historical search" in the new government drone database. He's happy he finally gets a "hit", finds that this time they have data of a person operating a drone near the property that day. "Finally a break in the case!" the detective thinks to himself. With the eyewitness testimony, the drone data, and the evidence of the previous crimes in hand, the detective is able to secure a "no knock" warrant to the house considering there are known "armed and dangerous" drug dealers involved and it's a "high risk" situation. The next Wednesday night when the family is fast asleep, they hear their front door being smashed in, the wife screams, the children are wailing. This dad being a staunch 2nd amendment supporter, grabs his weapon and goes to confront the home invader(s) (as is his right). Running through his adrenaline clouded head is that he's going to "END THIS THREAT". He pop's out of his bedroom door, weapon raised, and before he can even process and react he hears "GUN!" and almost immediately hears gunshots. As he's passing out, amid the shouts of "DROP THE GUN" and "IS THERE ANYONE ELSE?!", as his crumpled frame is manhandled and handcuffed, he hears the unmistakable pained screams of his children. He drifts off so confused, scared and in pain, still not understanding what's going on and who these intruders are. Directly behind the wall he was just standing in front of, his children were cowering under their blankets in their bunk bed . You see, drywall is a poor shield for bullets on a good day. To the high-velocity rounds fired from the rifles the officers used, the wall may as well not have been there at all. Years later at the civil trial, his Widow gets a settlement from the city. Turns out the bodycam footage confirmed the wife's testimony (disproving the involved officer's testimony) that the S.W.A.T. and Drug Task Force team that entered the home did NOT identify themselves. In their hyped-up state where they were "sure" they were entering a "drug house" that was pat of a local "drug ring". They simply forgot to identify themselves in that high-stress situation. The money is "good" even though much of it goes to the lawyer. It allows her to buy a house so she (and the surviving child) have their own home again. She find little solace in the payout as it doesn't bring her family back. Unfortunately she had lost the previous house to the bank. There was only one income and the husband's life insurance did not pay out until she sued them (which took some time). They held out as there was "some question" as to the "guilt" of the dad and they thought they would not have to pay out. Fortunately she had family they were staying with, she couldn't even imagine (and didn't dare to) what would happen if she didn't have that safety net. Don't think something like this can't happen because it happens already. Now there will be a new way innocent people can be swept up in this crap.

People may be tempted to discount that story as "impossible" however, I think the more intelligent reading it will realize that it's far more likely than the contrived scenarios painted in the FAA's video. The picture you paint is, sadly, all too likely to become a reality :-(

Good point in the more grand scheme of politics. People don't see the movement in these legislative actions, like they don't understand why what the wars are important to take more seriously, when it comes to finding the truth. By hitting the bell, you listen to it and can hear when something is wrong that effects the entire sound of the bell.

@@FourthWayRanch Pepper spray is not legal in some states in the US... Where I'm at its considered a "dangerous weapon", and as such since there is no 2nd amendment (according to politicians), you are not just allowed to have dangerous weapons like nunchucks, throwing stars, or brass knuckles even though you'd think all of those would be covered by the 2nd amendment (but there is no 2nd amendment in this country). So is it worth getting arrested for that? Choice is yours, but I have a saying "when commiting crimes, make sure its worth it", its like if you had stock on a Glock, well you might as well throw a Glock switch on it too, and a barrel muffler, and a vertical front grip, and have a drum mag, because its pretty much treated the same as if you just had a smooth barrel on a standard Glock. I'd also rather have that than pepper spray, because a crazy person with a knife swinging around violently is still a danger even if they can't see you because you just made them angry, but a drum of 9mm might take care of that pretty quick.

The FAA wants to eliminate low altitude hobby aircraft flying because big business has told them to do so. Commercial drones need the low altitude airspace for delivery drones because the businesses that will operate them don't want to bother with the supposed hazards of people flying various drones and model aircraft for fun. It's all about big money telling the FAA what to do.

Yep, I have been saying right from the get-go that Network Remote ID was coming, despite the temporary back-up the FAA did. In their words "we will not require network Remote ID *at this time* " so it was always clear that this was the end-game. One only has to stop and think then that network RID requires UTMs to manage all those authorizations and traffic flows. The FAA says that these will be commercial entities. To develop and implement a UTM will cost hundreds of millions of dollars -- money that must be recovered out of profits. So who do you think will be paying the cost for those UTMs? Will it be the delivery drones that we won't see any time soon? Or maybe the eVTOL airtaxis that are supposed to be just around the corner? No, these UTMs will be built long before either of those industries becomes commercial viable so we (the hobby) as the single largest users of the airspace for unmanned operations will likely end up paying through the nose for our right to fly. "pay to fly" will become the way forward. :-(

Your point about flying over private property out of controlled airspace is UNDERSTATED. When I learned to fly in the 80's, airspace was considered that there was only jurisdiction in controlled airspace. What this meant was, if you were a rancher in a very rural part of the country with say a 1000 acres, in an area where controlled airspace started at 10,000, no victor airways or airports or other forms of controlled airspace, you were free to do what ever you wanted *over your property* *out of controlled airspace*. If you wanted to heard cows with a cub out of certification without a pilots license or medical, you could; and many did! There were a lot of ranchers using small planes to heard their animals without leaving the confines of their property and without getting into controlled airspace. NOW???? They confiscated control in your front yard without even designated it as a type of airspace. What's next? YOUR BEDROOM??

We have a drone that we only use on our property. We used to have a lot of issues with hunters that were not allowed (wildlife rescue and rehab). Neither the sheriff or DNR could possibly get here in time to catch them and with my disability I couldn't either unless they happened to be where I could drive out to. The drone solved the issue in a single season and it was a lot of fun! They'd run for their trucks and we'd have pictures of them and their license plates, so the sheriff didn't have to rush out here anymore. I hadn't heard anything about remote ID until watching this video. I assume since we're jogging towards '1984' dystopia, this will affect everyone with a drone (depending on the 250g exemption)? Suppose I should do some research on it like everything else the government is screwing with lately. If any of y'all farm or ranch you know what I mean. There are a few ways it could work, but only one that would really fit the description they give. Well... two... The first one is a challenge-reply validation system using an internally stored key on the drone. The app connects to the faa which gives you a challenge and based on the reply from the drone, authenticates it. This probably won't work because you can see things much farther away than phones are designed to work - at least bluetooth and some related standards that could be shoehorned into existing board architecture. That would be hard to spoof (think sim cards), but the karen army would be driving people nuts with calls simply because of failures of the technology to map to reality. The second one is that the drone just broadcasts a flat ID - which would be comically inept as people like myself would create a broadcast for John Galt and distribute it to everyone, so the feds can run around asking who John Galt is.

When I first discovered drones (around 2010) I used them for years for photogrpahy for my own real estate listings. Then I learned I needed a license to do what I had already been doing. I looked into obtaining the license and it's basically a real pilots license for flying real airplanes that carry people and there are real licensing fees and they must be renewed often. After just a few years of these licensing fees, the fees cost more than my drone. So now I no longer fly. They took something I enjoyed doing, did safely and turned it into too much hassle to make it worthwhile.

They typically go for over $300 us. I think there are going to be a lot of people who will not bother to comply. I suppose with this big rush to buy modules, the price may drop to $50? I don't think so. From what I can tell local police have no idea what is or is not legal, they aren't going to enforce FAA laws, they aren't even going to understand them. Thanks for spreading the word - Jim

You would think that drones were falling out of the air everyday and hitting people in the head or crashing into airplanes considering the attention the FAA is giving them. What is really happening is that the FAA is regulating the hobby out of the air for the sake of the commercial delivery drone business that wants the low altitude air-space cleared exclusively for their use. Follow the money.

I always say. If your going to use a gun. Steal buy a stolen one. If you kill someone with it. There's no prints DNA you could throw it on the dead body walk away. Cops could catch you 100 fett away. If there's no witnesses You keep your pie hole shut. Spend 3 days in jail. You'd walk.

There was a time I wanted to work for MAAP but they have conducted themselves in a way that isn't friendly to the community at large. The video was probably produced by students for next to nothing. While the wing program is cool, and I was there for the first burrito delivery, FAA seriously dropped the ball by not mandating ADSB on a single global frequency for all manned aircraft. This could enable UAS to sense and avoid. The Arsenal is def a no fly zone, and you would likely have to fly over a river to enter the airspace since it's on a peninsula. I hope no one calls the local PD on me while I fly at a park.

None of this regulation would be necessary, if it wasn't because of the new commercial drones coming soon, from Amazon etc. So All of the regulation, should be on commercial drones exclusively, they are dangerous due to their massive size. They could potentially kill, or injure someone and potentially cause severe property damage, hitting cars etc. Whereas hobby drones, have never severely injured anyone and can't, due to their small size.

Theirs a lot more going on here than what they are telling us. I believe in my gut that the FAA has much deeper intentions than what they are stating. Personally I think this is the beginning framework for commercial drones wizzing through neighborhoods everywhere making commercial deliveries. The pizza delivery, the Amazon and Walmart drones. And every other delivery service that wants in. This is the FAA’s groundwork for allowing and likely generating revenue from such operations.

Oh yeah. I believed that when RID was first being talked about. There’s some deep pocketed lobbyists talking to politicians ( Amazon, UPS, FedEx ), so that they can rule airways. It’s America where Capitalism rules. Big time Capitalists can’t have us little guys standing in the way of their profits.

So, what they are saying is, I can drive 120mph, in the wrong direction with my eyes closed, while drunk, and having a license plate proves my drive is legal! Lol. I hope Canada where I live doesn’t follow suit soon! My drone is registered, and generally if shit goes that bad, my drone will be on the ground, and they can trace it that way. Your video shows well, how defective remote ID is. Thank you!

The sad part about all of this is the war in Ukraine has shown that a large commercial drone is an excellent improvised weapons platform. The bones of this I saw back in the day when I sold some of the first digital cameras that had built in GPS tagging, I joked about the camera stating, "you are not authorised to take a picture in this area." The next obvious stage will be remote shutdown, the drone will not fly without authorisation.

I caught the logging of info earlier in the video when they said the FBI agent identified the boy with the FPV drone as "a regular who commonly flies his drone at this park." My guess is that remote ID systems will use smart phones with range to transmit info, along the lines of Apple's Airtag if they don't already. My guess is that the script writer needed to make something up to fill a plot hole, or knew future plans and mistakenly included it ahead of schedule. This whole thing reminds me of how firearm restrictions and confiscations went in many countries. First everyone was required to register what firearms they had and where kept in the name of public safety to help solve crimes and track down criminals. Later, the governments told the public it didn't help lower crime, so everyone just needed to turn everything in, and if you didn't, they knew exactly who was holding out, and where to find them. Like you said, eventually everything flying will require an ID, and probably all drone operators, professional and recreational, will need a license.
