Brother, your video is awesome. The first K130 I got was great in the first hover flight in my garage. Second day I crashed twice, second crash needed a total rebuild. Then after that rebuild, I piled drived it from 3 feet up....BOOM. Then, I watched many videos, but yours was the most help.... I ended up getting a second one and followed your settings: perfect for a beginner. The rebuilt one was slightly more aggressive, and it worked!!! Many thanks and much love to you and your very awesome wife!

AWESOME Eric! Glad you found some useful things in there. I don't fancy myself a Heli aficionado, and most of the guys flying heli's have LONG since forgotten how hard it can be to fly them. I have special needs, as a non-heli-expert, so I want to share what I do to get the small handicap I need. We have SAFE on the BNF planes we review, but I almost never use it anymore...but with helis, I need every bit of help I can get.

Please never say that you are explaining too much (45;55). You can never explain too much. I have been searching for a video on the setup of the K130. Lots of videos showing flying and unboxing (not much help) but not setup, especially for a novice pilot. Your videos are so in depth and you never miss a detail that other people would just skip over. And you even go on to show how to fix it. Exceptional videos. Your videos can never be too long or have too much information, and they are also entertaining (your little innuendo's) . Great job to you and your wife. By the way do you know how lucky you are to have a wife that shares your hobby with you and appears to really enjoy helping you? Thank You Brian's wife (sorry I don't know your name) Merry Christmas to you and yours. Stay warm and safe. Again you two make a great pair. Love your vids!!!!

So glad to hear you say this. We get trouble from some for making exceedingly long videos, but we KNOW that so many just need some help getting their feet wet! It's like some of these manufacturers just assume everyone knows everything about these surprisingly complex systems with almost no "ENGLISH" explanation - LOL ;) I'm very blessed to have such a supportive and helpful wife (Megan AKA the camera crew - an inside joke about how we obviously only have one person), and she is increasingly pivotal in the success of our channel! Every (most) modern tail gyro has two settings rate and heading lock. Rate will keep your tail locked on the ground and then require constant attention while in flight. Heading lock or just lock gyro will give you a ground spin on spin up as it requires a moving direction to lock to but a simple counter rudder input ends that. Heading lock is the best setting and what most if not all ready to fly RC helis gyros are set to as they are easier to fly for new pilots as the tail stays locked behind the nose. When it comes to crashes main gears, landing gear, tail booms, main shafts and feather spindles are the parts that get destroyed the most. No glueing will save your in the heli hobby. Also for wrenching on these micro helis you may want to invest in small magnets or magnetic screwdrivers and Allen drivers. Put a small magnet on your screw driver or needle nose pliers and you’ll never lose another metal bit again.

Yeah, I used to have to CA everything together on my old Blade CP One, but thank God, XK has used screws and clamps for stuff on this little beauty!

Brian Phillips well once you can master flying around level right side up with 6G hand holding turned off you’ll be ready to start practicing hovering inverted and doing inverted orientations in a hover with one side pointed at you such as hovering the heli with the left side facing you for a full battery and then the right side and then the tail and then the nose on. After you master doing orientations right side up so it’s second hand you can move on to circuit flying like doing figure eights. Then you start doing inverted hovering orientations the same way and then once mastered moving on to inverted figure eights. This can take months and a good simulator is vital.

Parts for XK Helis all have to be ordered online. If I wreck one of my blade helis or Align helis I can hit up a local hobby shop for replacement parts and get back in the air faster. If you really want a great helicopter get a used Blade 180 CFX, you can get them for about $100 bucks BNF and they fly like a much larger heli. Lots of fun. Very stable in the air but no safe or training mode so you gotta fly it the whole time. I fly my little 180CFX more than I do my 360 and my 3 500 size helis.

There’s no suspense like ‘Brian is flying helicopters in the house again’ suspense. Love your technical / repair vids. Anyway, I know you have a TON of free time ;-) so maybe one day you would consider doing an expo / mixing tutorial... I mean besides the quick one you do in nearly every new plane video. Seriously, nobody on KZbin explains transmitter setups the way you do. Thanks again, you two.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you feel my plight - it is REAL! ;) LOL As for the detailed overview on Expo and Mixing...I feel like I'm already really "riding the line" with my explanations, OR possibly jumping the fence and running half way down the street... It's tough since I don't really "know" what audience will be watching. Will it be the "new" rc pilot or the experienced rc pilot, thus the challenge is keeping an audience while I explain things they might already know or not have a clue - this is tough. As for helping YOU with your questions, can you ask a specific one, and I can try to address it here? I know it's always helpful to have a better general understanding of these things in order to apply these to your overall RC experience, which is why I push so hard to share loads of details in my videos, but I know you must have a specific question or three. I want to help. P.S. When you ask, ask a "new" comment...KZbin kinda buries reply chains anymore (which is SOOOOO annoying!) making it hard to tell when I get a reply to a reply, unless I stumble onto it.

Brian; There is a new large heli coming out with GPS, just like my DJI Mavic Air 2 drone. Can fly it manually, has gyro I think, and GPS!. I just sent you a private message on your Facebook page with the model & description and a link to this new heli and can see a couple amazing video's showing all that it does. Can hardly wait until I get one. Was waiting for a Blade 330s RTF to come back in stock, but now I want this new one with GPS feature, can relax and enjoying flying it. While practicing heli flight, get mixed up, maybe crash into something with heli with gyro, but with GPS lock heli, get mixed up or disorientated, just let go of Tx sticks and stops dead and hovers in one place just like my DJI Mavic Air 2, also has, well I put that all in my FB message to you, hope you see it and get as excited as me, and hope your get one a do another great video on it! Try even higher expos. For rate 1 have set to 15%, rate 2 at 25% and rate 3 set it to something like 45-50%. For your throttle curve leave it factory settings as some helis just won’t fly until 60% or higher throttle with any amount of pitch depending on the motor esc set up with these micro helis.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
I considered this, but I get so freaked out by the speed of the main rotor (out of idle up mode)....BUT you're right that the factory setting might be better left default
@keithwhisman4 жыл бұрын
Brian Phillips ha! Try 425mm rotor blades spinning at 100% throttle in idle up mode. It’s a lot of fun. Expo is your friend, gives your inputs a little mushy feel so your heli flies smoother. 50% expo with helis is not unheard of in RC heli hobby.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
Idle up mode makes me nervous, but I know it's better for the flight performance.
@keithwhisman4 жыл бұрын
Brian Phillips you don’t have to fly in idle up, you can enjoy flying in 6G mode. Idle up just gives you the ability to fly inverted, at least that’s what it means these days in the days of Flybarless controllers. You can reduce your throttle speed but set your pitch curve so in normal mode you have more pitch closer to the bottom of the stick in Normal mode and closer to center stick in 3D Mode (idle up). A good way to learn is through experimentation. First take pictures of your throttle and pitch curves and then mess around. The K130 will lose a lot of its twitchiness by lowering the throttle aka head speed, increasing pitch and increasing exponential rates so your stick inputs will be softer. If you don’t have more pitch early on you’ll run out of stick quick before you can get airborne.
@keithwhisman4 жыл бұрын
Brian Phillips so a good start might be to set your N1 Throttle curve to 1=0% 2=20% 3=60% 4=60% 5=60% and the. For N1 pitch curve let’s go with 1=50% 2=65% 3=75% 4=90% 5=100% THE percentages equal the percent of positive pitch from full negative pitch so in normal mode you start at 50% meaning you are at zero degrees pitch and 60% is 10% mor positive pitch and 100% is full positive pitch. Just play with the numbers and see how low you can get the head speed down by using lower throttle curve percentages.. the lower the head speed the easier it will be to fly.

S means series, P is parallel, which is how the cells are wired. Cells in series increase voltage, cells in parallel increase current. So a 2S2P battery would have 4 cells - 7.4 volts total, and if the cells are, for example 200mah each, total current (amps) would be 400mah, which would be its 1C value. Multiples of C are what the battery can produce for short spurts (this isn't necessarily reality, some companies exaggerate the C value) 1C also is a safe rate of charging the battery - check the information included with the battery. Hope that helps.

There should be a way to put your flybarless unit into servo centering mode that electrically centers your servos and turns off the gyro functionality. When working on servos like this you need to use the servo centering mode.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
I think if you turn off 6G mode, then they're centered while laying flat, with Gyro Calibrated...or am I missing something Keith?

On the upside you can buy these cheep servos in a 6 pack for around 5$. Might be good to include when you order it because of the long wait time from China. You could also buy a full pack with metal gears fairly cheap. The servos wont break but the connectors will if you have a bad crash. The great thing with these tiny helicopters is that you can usually crash them with no damage at all if you cut power before it hits the ground and your flying over a softer flat surface like grass. With a "regular sized" RC helicopter you can destroy basically the entire helicopter from just flipping over in a strong wind gust when taking off. Also mastering your stunts in a simulator before usually helps out allot. 😎

LOL - I know , I should have just taken that thing out!!! This heli is just so strong, I was genuinely nervous about hitting stuff, something I'm not typically concerned about when I fly inside the house.

On a RTF there isn't that much to setup, but if you wish, we have explained MORE about some of these heli's on the BNF styles. Have you watched one of them? Might help answer some of your questions.

@@BrianPhillipsRC yes both the gear and the servos after a crash and the landing isn't very good don't hold them while running up the main motor i got hit by the blades wasn't good on the knuckles , the landing gear came off .
@keithwhisman4 жыл бұрын
I fully concur, metal gear upgrade sets are the best upgrades for plastic gear servos. Important to use a good greese on the metal gears or you will suffer a seized servo and thats no good at all. I'd rather replace plastic rotor pitch arms than tear into a servo even though metal gears die as well.
