The reason this sounds 'egyptian' is because of the scale this song is based on (phrygian, I think), but even though most people only connect it to egyptian music it's actually used in most of the middle eastern countries' traditional music. A version of this scale, the freygish scale, is actually used in Klezmer, traditional Yiddish (Jewish) music.
