I have never felt worse for a video game character. Not Bloody Baron. Not Vezemir. Even Hjalmar had a heroic moment saving Ciri. But for Iris, there was nothing but suffering. She was so beautiful and yearning for love but powerless. She had to witness her father killed and fed to the beast. In the end, a once lively woman became lifeless having to live with a demon dog and a demon cat and the Faceless caretaker. Olgierd leaving her was the final nail on her coffin. This story had me alt-tab for a moment and stare at the screen because it was so harrowing. I have seen many comments saying how hard it was for them to choose whether to take the rose or not. After seeing all the terrible things Iris had to suffer, taking the rose was an obvious choice for me. I just told myself "Enough! I'm taking the rose. She will not suffer a moment longer."

Ngọc Tú Đinh Thank you for expressing my feelings by expressing yours. It is exactly what I felt. And I'd like to add... You know which game location the Painted World reminds me of? It's the Soul Cairne from Skyrim. It's just as and even more haunting and tormenting. In Soul Cairne, everything seems alien, wrong, cold and bitter, like ash in the air. But this place is on another level entirely. And it adds so much more to depth and sophistication of the game. Beautiful, really. Made me hate Olgierd, made me want to kill him. But by the end of the expansion I didn't quite know what to do already. I've let Gaunter take his soul on the first playthrough, yes... but in the end I saved him. O'Dim is the Evil Incarnate, and even better men fall for his promises. Aaaaah, I could add twenty times more text and that still won't be it. Love this game! Cyberpunk will blow our minds!

Perfect example of The Witcher 3's mostly bittersweet story. There's hardly ever a truly good ending and even those come at a price. Bit late reply but still... I think that if you save Olgierd, Iris might actually die. If you beat GO¨D then we know that at least part of the Gaunters curse affecting Olgierd vanishes, as he seems to no longer have a heart of stone... As a result he is probably also no longer immortal. Iris mentions that Olgierd asked for immortality for them both, and it seems... That immortality is at least partially, if not entirely, what's keeping Iris in this weird limbo state of undeath. And thus.. If Olgierd isn't immortal, Iris most likely isn't either, which kindof makes sense. Of course Gaunter would set up his scheme in a way that even if he were to be bested, Olgierd would never be able to have what he wished for.. Namely Iris. Not even in the bittersweet twisted way that they would be stuck together forever in Iris' dream.

Like I get it, Olgierd made a deal with the devil and he's gotta pay the due, but the damage it caused to the innocents in the crossfire caused nothing but pain truama, heartbreak, and countless unneccesary losses and the worst of it all, O'Dimm let it happen, more likely than not, knowing what would happen and worse off, he almost certainly doesn't care so long as the contract is fulfilled. The Ofieri prince was made a toad and killed, the Borsodi family house drenched in blood by family and innocent, a wedding crashed by an unwanted spectre and to top it all off, an innocent woman who wanted nothing but love was cursed to one of the worst fates I've ever seen in a video game. Say what you want about Olgierd being the trigger of it all in all of this, but Gaunter likely knew the way this would turn out and let it happen caring little of the consequences.

Not only do I feel bad for Iris but you gotta feel for Olgrierd too. He made a deal with Gaunter so he could be with Iris. In doing so he lost himself and his own heart causing his love to become his hate. Not only did he lose his brother, he lost his only love, and himself. This story is haunting. I wish they could meet again under better circumstances. Also fuck the brothers that made the Von Evercs lose their money. All of this shit wouldn’t have happened then. 🖕🏻

Vlodimir I felt bad for because he was considered second best to his brother. Iris was just an unnecessary victim in Olgeird’s deal with O’Dimm. This DLC officially made me depressed as hell and sad af nearing the end.

In my opinion, this is the best quest in the entire gaming industry. Incredible atmosphere, non-trivial gameplay even within the game itself, a strong plot that touches a nerve. Iris herself, again in my opinion, is the best female character in the game.

Not taking the rose + not saving Olgierd = G.O.D taking the souls of both Iris and Olgierd to be tortured for eternity. I am so sorry :( But I really wanted the saddle.

Even though i knew the heart of stone was a side effect from O'Dimm doing that Olgierd became emtionless and cruel, still i wouldn't gonna save him after all he's done to Iris. His soul deserves to face the fate worse than death.

I really wished to see Olgierd, in a way, reenter the painted world, encounter Iris again, and just hold her tight, after all the main events have played out and you decide to save Olgierd and let Iris keep the rose. Hell, even if not these circumstances, i wished to see a little cutscene where, after tens of years have passed, Iris would reunite with her husband, in the Void.

The first time I played, I couldn't take the rose because when Geralt first mentioned taking it, she sounded so upset when she said it was the last gift she'd received from her husband. The love in her voice broke my heart. I couldn't do it. And then, when she gives you the painting, saying she wants to be close to Olgierd again, I almost cried. That's what she wanted most. To have her husband back. So, maybe letting her keep the rose and enter the painting gave her the peace she was looking for.

Because of iris story i find it hard to spare olgeird buf i remember he had a heart turn to stone by gaunter and the only way he can repay iris is to be a good man and start a new so i let him live gaunter manipulated events to make olgeird desperate i read what happened to the von everecs and its way too comical how they immediately experienced all that bad luck all at once.

Im not sounding dramatic but this literally happened to the love of my life. We were madly in love, every night and every day we’d text each other consistently. Every time we woke up, we’d say good morning to each other and also with good nights to each other right before we fell asleep typing to each other that we will never leave each other. She was always there for me and I was always there for her. She made me whole and she brought so much happiness in my life. I’d even take longer walks home coming home from school just to have more time to talk to her. Then one day, she became distant. At that point I was in the shoes of Iris because I had not done any wrong and my girlfriend distanced herself. She would on and off leave FaceTime while I was on there rather than to stay and talk to me. We broke up and I was in so much agony and I was so sad. It felt like I was grieving because her old self was gone. Gone in the matter of a day because she didn’t know what she truly wanted but deep down I still feel it was an excuse. Excuse to abandon me. It was absolutely perfect I tell you. After having tried to stay as friends she became less and less in tune with her feelings. She became blank of true expression and only went after evil by being more with her toxic friend than anybody else including I. She became Olgierd. Just this past week I cut off ties with her even as friends. She merely didn’t talk to me about her but instead of others. She even acknowledged that her old self was no more and she didn’t care about herself anymore. She became a manipulator and a liar and I called her a monster for having ruined my life by killing off her old self who I loved with all essence of my life. I had light PTSD with this and I felt so bad for Iris. I know how she feels. The one person you love just turns your back on you and you can’t go back to what was once before.

Man...same with my first love, the love of my life... I've been with him for 7 years, and I'm slowly watching how he distances from me, how the one that he used to be slowly dies. I know deep down that it's just a matter of time for him to leave and to be honest that is killing me and I don't know what to do or how will I be able to overcome this. Maybe it's true... we are too young but, why do I love him so much then? Why can't I imagine my future with someone else? Why is he the only one in my mind and my heart? I try to be patient and comprehensive, but I don't understand why I stopped being the love of his life, because I'm sure I was. Still... He is truly a treasure.

I feel so bad for Iris, makes the final decision tough for me as well. To keep her here is to torment her for eternity, take the rose and you send her to the unknown. In the end, I had to take the rose, to free her. She may not know what lies beyond but at least she has a chance to be released.

I feel an infinite tenderness and love for Iris von Everec. When she said, "I am sadness", I felt like comforting her so bad. She was one of the most beautiful gaming characters I have ever come across. I swear if she existed in the real world, I would love her beyond measure and keep her warm all her life. ❤️🌹 Plus she's a Gothic beauty. I love Gothic women. 💜
