XLR8R TV Episode 83: Glitch Mob Street Warfare

The Glitch Mob is notorious for its live shows- they remix on the fly and seamlessly finish each others' basslines. Here, the crew takes it up a notch by setting up speakers and a generator renegade-style in the crowded streets of San Francisco for full-scale guerilla beat warfare on the public. What they weren't expecting was that San Franciscans prove themselves up to the attack-in a way that only San Franciscans can.

Part of what is important for people to realize is that our contemporary definitions of instruments need to change to keep up with modern technology. Some people call what Glitch does as pushing buttons. That's no different than a piano/keyboard in the hands of an untrained artist. *How* they push those buttons; the inspiration that comes from within defines the artistry, timing, and feeling of their music.

man...that guy at the beginning is funny. and sadly, that's how i felt a while back. though, i just went to my first ever "rave" to see the glitch mob at the valarium in knoxeville. i was a skeptic...but walked out completely won over. they ARE musicians, they ARE talented, and this music is simply breathtaking. however...it is something best appreciated live. hearing this on a little speaker or headphones is almost pointless.

I don't see how; dude likes smooth jazz. He's from the generation that thinks rock is noise. I grew up on heavy metal and punk and I fucking love Glitch Mob. At least from the people I know, people who like metal, especially death metal, tend to like techno. See also crossover in shit like Static X and Rammstein (which use electronic backgrounds with guitars or even, in Static X's case, entire electronic songs). I think Drink the Sea is my favorite album ever.
