XM66F Tank Review in World of Tanks

Wargaming in the last couple of years when it comes to coming up with ideas for new tanks: Let's give it an impenetrable turret, a turret that cannot be penetrated, an impossible to penetrate turret, a really weak hull... and an impenetrable turret.

to be fair, you can pen it's cupola quite easily with good accuracy(as in the gun's accuracy) and against bad players playing the tank. I just played in an Obsidian against an XMF on ruinberg. I went hulled down against him, took many shots with a lot of misses but still manage to the XMF for 1.1K of his HP.

@@punicwars2 I do indeed, but in the game world's current meta one is shooting at pixels with gun accuracy dictated by RNG as opposed to skill/ knowledge/ experience. If a real tank gun experienced some of the RNG accuracy that's in the game, the gun wouldn't pass inspection. XD

8:06, current meta (since one year) in a nutshell, rocket powerd tank going 50kmh penetrating you for 800 while taking the hill and shooting sideways, while you sit in a decently armoured tank 9:00 next, superheavy against bz just tnaks 50% of his hitpoints while BZ did 1,6k dmg for literally doing no brainwork

My JagdTiger laughs at the BoZo's lack of frontal pen. Yesterday a BoZo tried twice, dealing ~50 damage per shot, my JagdTiger slapped it twice for ~500 damage per shot, and then it rocketed away to find easier prey! XD

When I got this tank from the loot boxes, I immediately compared it to my T-103. Both have weak hulls, both have a good turret with weak points and both have pretty good DPM. But yet for some reason, I can't seem to make it work. I tried playing a supportive role right behind the heavies like I do with my T-103 but it fails. I'm still going to keep trying since the tank does look interesting. I just have to find the proper sweet spot.

Yeah, they substitute skill with money. Most tanks can be pinned with regular rounds if you play smart and aim well. On the US server it feels like everyone has a worn down 2 key.

I got all Tanks except the Obj 752, and personally i like the gsor and the Type 63 the most. The Tiger-Maus does not really fill my playstyle so well. The XM66F for me ist just a real pain, your armor is very unreliable, i think i should use it more as a medium range sniper td instead of the front-line role you would think it would fit into. The Gun is fine imo.

Will, if your mic is as isolated from the table as much as possible, maybe you want a rubber pad to thump on. A DYI pad of soft foam and then a denser rubber should deaden the audio enough.

IMO this tank is probably the best in the loot boxes. The type 63 I feel is just not that good (mainly cus 320 alpha with a 9 second reload is just not good, then if you wanna use the cooldown mechanic you gotta wait for 12 seconds, yikes). The tiger maus is fun on a city map where you can sidescrape but struggles on every other map cus gigantic lower plate thats butter (which is a good thing). The XM66Fs gun just feels really good and the armor works enough. cant say anything about the russian heavy since I didnt get it.

Controversial opinion but I think the renegade should be in comparison. It has the same gameplay style as it and is just a better renegade for 2023. You lack the full traversal turret and your upper hull is worse. (But renegade hull is an easy pen too so I would argue the armor on this tank is better and more usable.) But you dont have the renegade's tumor turret. Gain 40 alpha, MUCH higher dpm. Better aim time. Similar dispersion. Slightly faster. I love your reviews but sometimes I think you should compare vehicles outside of their class because with more and more tanks merging the lines, sometimes the closest comparison isnt within the same class in terms of play style. (For instance the tier 9 german td should have been compared to a leopard as it doesn't play like the other tds since it cannot trade alpha but has similar gun, camo, speed, and armor.)

1) I quit playing WOT months ago because WG refuses to fix long standing issues and instead worries about new tanks, mechanics, etc that nobody calls for. 2) Same caliber and faster velocity = less pen than the T28P. I'm curious how that is (other than balancing reasons) when both use AP rounds.

If you want some realistic way for that situation to occur, the material and mass of the projectile could be different, but that is a really weird Hill to die on for you. Why would concealment be a mandatory skill on a hull-down tank like this? Also, describing the Super Conqueror's upper hull as "workable" seems like an understatement since it is virtually impenetrable when you are using the great gun depression.

I wish they would change the GOLD mechanic. So much less skill needed to spam gold. Lower the damage and increase the pen. Anything to stop the spam and increase the need to aim at weak spots. I would even play on a different server to stop the spam. I can't change to the EU though, too much invested on my account.

That last game was QB's fault not the tanks. Greedy misplay is all, he should have focused the American Hvy first. Rotation device instead of Hardening works well in this vehicle, as this is not really the Brawler in even match ups.

When comparing to the Turtle, you should notice that the Turtle has inferior alpha damage. Bigger alpha damage is always better.

Why would anyone want to play XM66F if there are TS-5 and Turtle Mk1? For the ridge line, there are Emils. XM66F loses to all of them in every way. It's good just for trade-in (if you like to open boxes and then lose money on trade-ins). WG made a senseless tank, which would be hard to sell and put it into boxes.

@@brucenorman8904 TS-5 has 400 alfa, better penetration and 6 seconds reload together with a solid armor. You have to hide your lower plate only on TS-5, not whole hull. You can push your way through and not hide on second or third lines, for that there are better TD exits.

I get what you're saying, but I kinda understand the rationale behind not comparing the XM to the TS-5 (dunno why the Turtle was compared, probably because it's the OP tier 8 TD rn). They are very much apples and oranges. They can both function well, but not really in the same circumstances. XM has great gun depression and gun arc (compared to a non-turreted), the TS-5 is absolutely terrible in this regard. The TS-5 does well in city/heavy tank engagement flanks, the XM does not. The XM does great on a dynamic ridgeline, the TS-5 is far too rigid for that.

why play the ts5 when there's the turtle? and that tank is in the comparison. also idek why you bring up better camo rating as a comparison point to make the ts5 better, when realistically speaking they are both designed to be TDs that play as if they were HTs. even if you get this for the sole purpose of crew training, the E4 is a close range support TD and the E3 might as well be a HT with its ridiculous frontal armor.

I bought 25 boxes and got somewhat unlucky. I got one tier 8 premium and of course it was the XM66F. From every otehr box I got the lowest amount of gold/credits/premium each time, never the second/third bin of possibilities, so pretty lackluster experience. Before watching I'd like to throw my (yet) unbiased opinion about XM66F - the turret should rotate more to the left and right. It's a whole freaking turret yet the gun arc is just a tiny bit better than AT-15. It lacks something - either the generally good frontal armor of typical slow, armored TDs, flexibility of having a turret, mobility, accuracy/snappiness of the gun to make it more reactive... it is a jack of all trades, but not enough in all. It won't be my favorite premium tank even though I mostly own old school (ie powercrept) vehicles.

I buy 25 boxes every year and I always got something, however never the high tier premium I wanted :D So while yes I am lucky to get a high tier premium without having to buy 50 boxes I end up with something I don't play too often. XM66F will join the plethora of premium tanks I would only dust off during front line when my main toys are in repair.

Yes the MM can be ruthless, you definitely need to have good players on your team as well. You couldn't carry a game with this thing unless you are going against bots. And if you are up against decent players who know how to deal with this TD it makes for frustrating sessions. Turret is good but it is not great.

@@garettgarner Totally agree. The gun arc on it makes for some frustrating shots. The T28 Proto is easy to use compared to it. I find some of the fixed guns of other TDs that have less gun arc on them easier to swing and shoot than this thing. Granted I am more used to them which is probably why.

Highest WR of all TDs on EU & ASIA (2nd on NA) and MoE requirements up there with "balanced" tanks like the BZ-176 and T56. Yeah, sounds like it could use another buff to me.

That is all nice but what is point to grind tech tree in this game?these days what remain of f2p player base you can count on one hand,what is unique in game?,ok you buy loot boxes,you want new tanks and in your team there are 5same tanks as on other team,omg such a fun,tier8 MM is full of premium tanks,hull down monsters wich cant pen each others and wait 14battles for that one f2p guy to apear and destroy him in 3sec,game become so much fun that i want to forget it even exist
