Hey there Jarrod.. that's SO MUCH BETTER. Last time we chatted, I had the previous 16" on order, but they could not deliver on time. I eventually opted for the Asus Strix 18" with the RTX 4080 from Best Buy via a black Friday sale for under 2K. I'm so glad I went the ASUS route. There were a ton of reviews on Best Buy that talked about backlight bleed. My unit has none of that. The 18" screen, because of my eyesight, has made all the difference, and I'm able to work a full day without discomfort. I'm excited to see how this new XMG unit performs. I'm sure it will be awesome. I'm glad they got it updated. This looks really cool. Cheers Rick

The 2022 Legions were the peak of gaming laptops imo. 2023 made them worse, and noe in 2024 there aren't any near perfect models out from any brand. This would be too slow for two reason: 1) Radiating heat through a piece of metal is way slower than pumping hot water out of the system. 2) Once that passive heat sink is soaked hot (please don't touch), radiating it away with infrared light is way slower than having a proper 120mm radiator with fan. @DuncDog Жыл бұрын
There's, of course, some level of irony that the only reason these obscenely crazy cooling solutions are needed for the CPU side is primarily Intel's absolute lack of power efficiency on the high end. I believe at this point the community is aware of notebookcheck's review for the engineering sample of the 17 inch version of this XMG NEO notebook. If you're not, they found this i9 was slower than both the old 13th gen i9 as well as AMD's HX and X3D flagships in quite a few cases. In at least cinebench, and nearly every game tested, the X3D was somewhere between a little bit and quite a bit faster than both i9s while drawing as little as a third of the power to do so. On an AMD equivalent notebook that lets them put all of the extra cooling directly into the size class up GPU that they now have the power and thermal budget for. If your CPU will only needs up to 100 watts, and you have a 330 watt brick, you can now put in a 200 watt GPU versus trying to power balance a 230 watt CPU allowance and a 170 watt GPU on a 330W psu. A water cooler would help cool both configurations of course, but personally, I would take the more efficient and faster CPU, and tolerances for a much beefier dGPU.

There is, just look for Eluktronics, because they're the main Tongfang resellers in the U.S. (Tongfang is the ODM, Original Design Manufacturer, of these laptops, which are sold by brands such as Eluktronics, XMG, and Aftershock.)

Ahh my comment didn't make any sense now that I re-read it. What I meant to say was that, I didn't know that they made water-cooling for laptop. So this was pretty cool for me to see.
@Honïe4 Жыл бұрын
What i don't understand about this laptop is if you are going to have an extra block that you attach to your laptop, why making it a water cooling block? Why not an external gpu? Having the laptop with an integrated gpu only will make it perfect for daily tasks if you want to just take it for college or watch youtube, and when you want to play you just plug in your normal fan-cooled external gpu (which would probably have much better performance than a water cooled laptop gpu) I remember rog had something similar like 3 years ago
@xmg_gg Жыл бұрын
What you describe is nothing new. You can get any laptop with a good CPU and Thunderbolt 4 and connect an eGPU to it. There is no need for a proprietary solution for this. For example, you can take a look at SCHENKER VISION 14 or VISION 16 with Intel Core i7-13620H and Thunderbolt 4. What's special about XMG NEO: you have a powerful all-in-one package that runs perfectly well without the water cooling unit. The water cooling is an optional add-on, not a requirement. // Tom

Please AMD, give the 3DVCache mobile CPUs to XMG Fusion. We need it in a system like this
@greebj Жыл бұрын
More X3Ds in everything! Usable multi cores for high performance use that doesn't need 150W+ and jet loud fan noise to get the work done and for gaming where the efficiency means less CPU draw while gaming which makes less of a problem of these weak sauce 250W TBP limits and weeny tiny chargers.

I wish the 17" had cooling as good as the 16, but this 16" (will be under aftershockpc laptops in Australia for anyone wondering) might be the overall best laptop of 2024. The screen is 500 nits now which is great vs last year 300 nits, and the cooling is just sensational. That CPU power output is crazy good. I just wish it had dolby vision, as that truly transforms Netflix on non HDR non 4K displays. Oh well. The Asus G16 is interesting and has a 240hz OLED but the GPU power limit is way too low and it's 7 grand with the 4090 in Australia.. It's ridiculous.. for just 1TB of storage and 32GB ram. For those prices, Asus can keep it. I paid less for my GT77 in 2023 with 64GB and 4TB and I get over 22K in timespy and the GPU always hits 170w+ even if the CPU is on 80 or even 90 watts. So...... I actually think the Razer 16 and this Tongfeng (XMG, aftershock, Eluktroniks, etc) are the two to watch out for this year. I'll reserve judgement on the Dell X16 until I find out if they improved the panel or not.

2023 will save you double fold since discounts are common and 2024 models have a crazy 20-30% mark up. And the GPUs are exactly the same between this year and last year. 14th gen Intel is a marginal upgrade at best. TLDR: 2023 is the way to go.

Why not AMD cpus in the Neo laptops? They are already in the Core laptops. For those who want to buy not the most powerful, but the most efficient set up, a Ryzen 7 7840HS + RTX 4080 in a Neo 16 would be the ideal, as AMD has way flatter power scaling.
@xmg_gg Жыл бұрын
Ryzen 7 7840HS can be a bottleneck for an RTX 4080/4090 in some gaming scenarios. We are considering to bundle AMD "Hawk Point" with RTX 4060 in XMG FUSION 15 later. // Tom
@charno_zhyem Жыл бұрын
@@xmg_gg can I ask what gaming scenarios? Jarrod did a comparison to Intel 13700H and there seemed to be hardly a difference, and I doubt 14th gen gives any improvement. And for low noise gaming it seems way better, as I bet at 40W it outplays most Intel CPUs, but that is just my assumption. Would love to see some data.
@xmg_gg Жыл бұрын
@@charno_zhyem I don't have hard data to cite from, but I would assume any CPU-heavy scenarios such as multiplayer with lots of concurrent players, physics-heavy games, 1% low in general, any graphics settings that reach higher FPS (e.g. not "Ultra"). Also, i7-13700H is not on the same level as i9-13900HX or i9-14900HX. But I still take your point: AMD Ryzen would be more efficient overall, which is why we consider it with RTX 4060 at least. // Tom

Frankly I don’t like the displays, in 2024 a 500 nits edge-lit LCD with not so good contrast and HDR performance in a Top tier laptop is a deal breaker for me, at least a miniLED with 2000 zones of local dimming and a peak of 1000 nits would be perfect

I can buy It for 2700 Eur with 14900hz and RTX 4090 and put my 32gb 6400mhz cl38 RAM and my 2x 990 pro 4TB tò have a definitive system with max possible Speed RAM and SSD Storage and Speed with the max CPU and max GPU at the less expensive price out here today (Who gives you a 2024 17" base with RTX 4090 for 2700 Eur?) the only problem Is that i don t have any review and any benchmark of this Laptop. Can you make a review and compare how Much difference Is with e23 version with 13900hx? Also tò see if It can compete in gaming with 7945hx3d and also if there are similar laptops out there. I prefer XMG because It runs cooler, can put 6400mhz RAM with BIOS mod, can undervolt CPU, comes with liquid metal, have a special customer service, costs less, offer the possibility tò sell It with 8gb RAM and no SSDs so you can put your RAM and SSDs, has a Thunderbolt 4 40gbps for my 4000mb/s External 4TB SSD. I would like tò buy It but dunno if tò wait next gen with new Intel cpu and Nvidia GPU, or Simply take this but a want a full review from you and compare tò e23 13900hx and with Asus rog Strix Scar 17 X3D with 7945hx3d, or if there are similar products with the specs i Need so tò read elsewhere similar reviews?

I'm a bit disappointed with the design of the Fusion. It looks way too small for what they put into it, kind of crammed. The old Chassis looks way cleaner. Was hoping for a clean, simple laptop with power. I will probably continue to use my Fusion L19. The new Fusion is not for me.

Pretty copy of Lenovo Legion the new XmgNeo16 (by Tongfang). Good for new liquid circuit without forget about cpu (ridiculous for the 2023 model) Good for no MX cherry. I prefer a silent keyboard. The rest, is pure Lenovo Legion 7. (So, well too). I would love a Lenovo with 4k screen, expandable up to 128gb ram. Tongfang/Xmg failed again, but closer to a better laptop. And Clevo x370 have what it deserves. Ruin and isolation from European market. Clevo, come back to leave MSI titan as a minor machine.
@greebj Жыл бұрын
Agree, Clevo is dead to me without LGA socket and MXM, rip P870 Imagine how many of an AM5 socket model they would have sold with X3D chips. But all we have is an isolated number of crappy models with Zen 4 HX and X3D with poor availability, and Intel's still dominating with their inferior and horribly hungry "8 real cores and a bunch of cinebench accelerators" stuff
