I love how MaCenna keeps saying "we did it guys" when we had nothing to do with it - SHE made those cabinet doors, all by herself. I am in awe of her talent, absolutely in awe. There is nothing that girl can't do. Thank you, MaCenna, for sharing your talents with all of us. Your time is recognized & appreciated!! 🥰

Wow Macenna.. one day your grandchildren and great grandchildren will be standing inside this kitchen telling their friends and family that their grandmother designed AND BUILT this kitchen herself! Not only are you inspiring so many woman and young DIYers in general to pursue their home renovation dreams, but you are also creating a legacy for your family. All while filming it in such a professional and engaging way. I don’t know how you do it.. you’re such an inspiration to me. Thank you! We can not (and will not!) be stopped by what we do not yet know how to do. And we will do everything we can to reuse, salvage, scavenge, and make do without compromising vision or outcome. Girl!!!!! You should 1000% be super proud of yourself. I had no clue how you were gonna build the cabinets but the way you explained it made perfect sense and you did an awesome job. I would def. add the trim detail because it makes the kitchen feel more cohesive. Also love that you'll be using the brass knobs. It also made me kinda teary eyed thinking about you one day showing your kids how you built all of the things in the house.

Kids that grow up with parents that can fix things or build things are never impressed until they are grown. They take it for granted. My kids knew i had basic skills repairing their bicycle or motorcycle or building shelves, repairing a piece of furniture. They always just expected me to do it without thinking about it. It did not occur to them that other mothers could not do these things. It never occurred to me that other fathers could not build a houseboat from scratch as my father did. It is going to be amazing for her grown children to see what their mother accomplished though through all these videos. I sincerely hope she keeps these safely backed up somewhere. (KZbin won’t last forever) When you start having to do these things in your own home for your family you really appreciate the skills your parents have. I know MaCenna really appreciates her mothers art now and her fathers amazing metal working.

You could cover the pocket holes with dowel plugs. The dowels are glued in and trimmed flush with a hand saw. Edit: be wary of making your doors too tall and wide. Max 27”W x max. 30”H. If the door you need is larger and not being used as a refrigerator panel. Consider adding a “center stile” or your door could warp over time. I’m guessing Texas can get pretty humid.

We had 2 cabinet estimates when building our house and they were $18,000 from Home Depot and $13,000 from an Amish woodworker. I can’t even believe it can be this cost effective to do it on your own. You have given me so much inspiration when it comes to tackling things on my own! I’ve been cutting trim and replacing kitchen lighting like a pro! My husband tries to get me to hire people but I know for a fact this is something any strong woman can do! You were also the person to get me into thrift flipping furniture and now I have furnished my house for cheap with a custom look! Love love love you!

-central Wisconsin: If you put masking tape over the wood before you cut it, if I recall, that will help reduce the fray cut edge when it’s done cutting. ….and great investigative work to figure all this out! That in itself is a HUGE Accomplishment!!! Good job Macenna!!! …..I’ve also shared this episode with my daughter, who is thinking about making her own new kitchen cabinet door fronts -to upgrade existing cabinets.

Honestly, at this point I can totally picture a day when we witness you felling your own trees, milling them, pouring your own concrete slab, laying stone, doing all the plumbing and electrical, making your own windows ….. lol. And I’m only partially kidding 😅. And through it all you are so cheerful and calm and patient (yes, I know you have your moments, but also hardly at all) and teaching us all so much as you go. I like to learn how to do things myself, too, and sometimes it feels way too overwhelming but when I watch you figure out how to MAKE YOUR OWN CABINET DOORS!!!! I remember that where there is a will, there is a way. Shout out to the KZbinrs out there who are sharing their skill sets with all of us. It really does enrich the world and so many lives. And they look gorgeous!! The trim detail absolutely finishes them off perfectly. ❤

I'm in the middle of a renovation. Now cabinet shops are back ordered, or they are in no hurry to call you back. meanwhile, I saw your pocket hole cabinet making video. I thought, I can do this. Lots of videos, second guessing myself, tears, frustration, which has finally given way to success, accomplishment, a sense of pride, and much more. I actually made 6 drawers today. 6!!! They are straight and fit together correctly. I'm finally excited at what they will look like when they are finished! Oh, btw you could use pocket hole plugs to fill the pocket holes you don't want to see. Also, you can get a Dado blade for your table saw to cut the grooves in your pieces. I am making drawers, 3/4" sides and 1/2" bottoms. I got the dado blade for my new table saw, (having tools makes it so much easier to do a good job), and put the grooves in all the side pieces in a snap. It was so quick! It actually took longer to change the blade than to run my pieces through. Each new thing takes time to figure out and just like you said, you procrastinate when it's something new, you haven't done before. That's me, I do that exact thing too. You're just trying to figure it out and get confidence before you jump in... There's a lot to figure it out. It made me feel so much better when I saw you were still working on your kitchen too. It's real life and things take time, along with everything else that's also going on in a normal day. You are doing a great job and I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been inspired to try to build my own cabinets. Keep the details videos coming, lots of good ideas. 😊

MaCenna, you can never have too many clamps! Have y'all been to Harbor Freight? There's one in your area. They have tons of tools really cheap, and the clamps are a great deal with a lifetime guarantee!l Also, you can buy pre-made pocket hole plugs or get a jig that lets you cut your own out of any wood. And...with pine wood, the tear out (jaggedy edges) is often a factor because pine is so soft.

Btw those "fuzzies" (aka chip-out) from routing I think are because you're going perpendicular to the grain! You didn't get them on the sample piece bc you were routing with the grain and you did on the larger piece bc you were going against the grain.

A suggestion... you already own a router, and now a router table. Why not make your own edge detailing on the rails and stiles prior to assembly? This would save you the extra $200 or so you would spend on the trim. Your choices on the detail would only be limited by the availability of the router bits.

Looking really good!! Its so satisfying to learn new skills! But please be mindful of long hair dangling when using power tools, and maybe get a push stick for the table saw to save your fingers.

I’m so proud of you! You’ve definitely inspired me to take on projects around our apartment. I’ve built ikea cabinets for additional storage in our dining room and then I did our kids bedroom. I built ikea bookshelves and dresser and a bunkbed for them. I know ikea’s not the same as from stray h but you gave me to confidence to do it! Thank you!!

Romeo and your parents must be so proud of you. McCenna thinks, I'll build the cabinet doors. Voila and she does it!!! The doors look so good and will add a lot of character to your cottage kitchen. Looking to watching your cabinet building progress. 🧡

Not sure you will be happy with the pine down the road. Pine is fine, but it does show wear and tear a lot more because it's a soft wood. You'll find dings and what nots the more your doors get used. My husband is making end tables out of pine right now. The amount of times I have heard him utter his frustrations to that wood while working with it are too many to count. He has since started scoping out wood mills to find hard wood slabs that don't cost as much as the big box stores. You might try looking at wood mills for hard wood pricing so you can continue using poplar instead of pine.

You did such a good job!!! Doors will be so delicate and stylish. 14:46 Maybe for your "router station" you need an additional support under its top plywood because when you are sliding board along the router bit and pushing it the plywood is bouncing. MaCenna you are so talented!

Smart tip, paint the inside of your cabinets, i know you said you wernt gonna do that, but its just gonna make it soo much easyer to clean the inside if its not just raw wood, i love you and am alreddy so excited for the next video💛😍

Could you not have routered the detail into the face frame for free instead of adding the extra trim? They are gorgeous, I’m just curious

One more trick is to have a wet cloth and massage the excess wood glue that spilled off the join in and then wipe the excess off.

Please get a guide to push the wood between the blade and the rail on the table saw. It will help protect you hand and give a degree of separation.

They look amazing! I have been intimidated by using a router in the past and you made it seem so approachable. Hopefully I'll make my own cabinet doors one day :) It didn't seem to be an issue for this project but I find it useful to keep a paper towel nearby to wipe off the wood glue for a clean finish. It's especially helpful for the inner corners of joints where it would be difficult to sand off later!

Amazing job learning yet another new skill! It looks so good so far, just another 30 odd to go, then adding hardware & paint 😅. It seems like you're enjoying this (soon to be) repetitive project more than the windows/floors & the results will be epic as usual. The cost vs time payoff can't hurt either, especially when you get content out of it. Bulk order of clamps must be happening to help you speed up the assembly. Well done Macenna!

Macenna! You are so inspiring. I’m going to tackle building my own cabinets. One thing I noticed that if you use birch or maple 1/4 plywood, you won’t have that wood grain irregularities. If you want smooth, you can probably fill and sand. Thanks for showing us that anyone can do anything! ❤
