Fantastic tutorial, fixed my Z1 without any issues. I got my replacement off of... a certain popular auctioning and market site, and it only came with 2 out of the 3 adhesive templates needed, so check before you start what you have! I managed to salvage the one that was missing, it was the one which held the panel with the screws in to the frame of the phone. Some other notes: If you can't turn off your Z1 because the touch screen is broken, open the sim card panel and press and hold the red button, it should vibrate 3 times and turn off. It's hard to tell where the grey antenna goes when you put the battery back in so take a good look immediately after you remove the battery. Hardest part was that the broken screen kept cracking further. My new screen had the Sony logo painted over, but the paint came off with a bit of white spirit and now it looks like an original screen (couldn't say whether or not it is!). Transferring the stickers is quite tricky. Total time to complete was ~2 hours.

Thanks Go Cell Phone Repair, you guys got this repair spot on. Was able to replace my Sony z1s display without much drama. Adhesive was the most time-consuming part. Used a blow-dryer to heat the adhesive; all turned out well. Removing the glass was difficult in my case as the cracks ran the full length of the screen. Though it just took persistence and heat to loosen it. On reassembly the first time I had a bit of a bulge at the bottom pushing the screen out so I double checked the speaker assembly area. A little gentle fiddling there set it down snug.Thank you for all the hints and gotchas

No, when you replace the screen, you have to remove the waterproof seal using heat gun. If you want to make the phone waterproof after replacing the screen then you have to apply the waterproof seal.

Good vid, wished you would've slowed down at some parts but I guess that's what rewind and pause are for lol Saved me some $$$ and I learned a fee things in the process! The precut adhesive is what I went with and it worked great! However, like many Z1's my charge Port cover broke so unfortunately, it'll never be fully waterproof again... I also purchased my screen replacement from Amazon, and with the precut adhesive was like $89 canadian, but when I turned the phone on for the 1st time, the screen seems like it was at full brightness even when the brightness was turned down. Almost as if the color is off slightly, maybe this is because it's an aftermarket screen, but it's nice to know I have a decent backup phone if something ever happens to my Nexus 6p! Anyways, good vid, thanks!

Great tutorial thanks. At 5:13 what is the component under your left thumb for? It's the square piece with the black border. At the bottom end it connects to the main body of the phone via two thin strands. I broke the one on the right and curious to know it's function. The phone still works fine as far as I can tell but surely some function no longer works. Thanks again

I done everything it worked for me. I didnt have to buy extra glue (apart for the screen) but all the other black glue I did it and I was very careful and it worked, I didnt have to buy extra glue for everything else. It worked fine, I paid attention to everything and it took me 4/5 hours to do it.

My screen is cracked but the digitizer seems to be fine. What part do I need to buy. I have read certain comments stating that the glass may be sold separate but I am curious if it is feasible to replace one without the other? Also, how much does a repair shop charge? I have replaced many android screens but this looks much more complicated due to the adhesive situation and the waterproof factor

Hi guys.i have question. I do Sony Xperia screen replacements. Mostly times it works all fine. But my problem is the screen is not sticks tight with the frame sometimes. The doubleside adhesive sticker is not strong enough no matter where I buy the sticker it's sometimes loosing it. I tried liguid glass glue a few time but it's to risky the glue get underneath of the lcd into the backlight and leaves spots. I remove the old sticker from the frame very good and clean it with alcohol. But still the glass /screen comes up in some areas. Please help

thanks for this beautiful video . i changed the screen and it's work , but the speaker is not working now , can you help me to know which flex is for speaker ?
@GoCellPhoneRepair7 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the loud speaker or the earpiece? The one for your speaker phone interfaces with the main flex cable. You can see at about 4:45.
@aliammar66017 жыл бұрын
I mean the loud speaker. I think it was damaged because the sound doesn't appear now. thanks brother for your time
@GoCellPhoneRepair7 жыл бұрын
No problem. You may want to look at the metal arms on the speaker itself. Sometimes they get bent and don't make contact with the cable. You might be able to straighten them out. Good luck.
@bestcarambar9 жыл бұрын
hi, you have the most convenient tutorial because you directly focus on the screen replacement. at 10:25 you put the new assembly directly onto the chassis, without putting a new adhesive. isn't it dangerous for people who do the same and then put the phone under water? will the phone still be waterproof?
@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
Yes I think that unfortunately the waterproof rating will be affected anytime that you open the phone. If you have to replace something though there isn't always another choice.
@qawistudio22457 жыл бұрын
Hello Go Cell Phone Repair! Outstanding video. I just want to ask, my power button sometimes goes crazy, does that mean i need to replace the power flex cable? If yes, is it difficult to replace the flex cable? Thank you.
@GoCellPhoneRepair7 жыл бұрын
Possibly. I don't think it would be too difficult to replace but you'd want to be sure that is what's causing your problem. The power button, volume controls, and camera button are all on the same cable so you'd be replacing all of the above. What's it doing exactly? Any chance of exposure to liquid? That's one of the more common reasons for button issues.
@qawistudio22457 жыл бұрын
it makes the phone randomly unlock itself, sometimes the volume can make it unlock on and off..But not frequently, sometimes it just fine. There is many time i knock hardly onto the phone and it fix it, lol but not permanently, the problem is still there, waiting to reappear

@go cell phone repair- I really don't have the heat gun, so I have to buy a new one. I went to purchase it online but there itself mentioned the heat gun cannot be used on mobiles since it has high air flows, so here I need some clarification about the heating process. I have "wahl hair dryer, can it be used on mobile for heating the front and back panel?"

Yes. You can use anything that blows hot air just be sure to monitor the temperature and aim for getting the surface very warm to the touch but NOT hot enough to burn your skin. Around 110 Fahrenheit/45 Celsius.

Probably just a refurbished unit with after market glass. I can't speak for anyone else's quality but the ones on my page gocellphonerepair.com/Z1 have the Sony logo. You can also find the adhesive for the screen there but as for the back of the phone you'll probably have to cut your own. The orange stuff on the adhesives page works well.

Hi there! i attempted to replace my screen with reference to your video. Been very helpful as i managed to rip it apart and put it back together. The problem i now face is that the display works, but the digitizer does not. I even replaced the flex cable and requested a new LCD+digitizer but still faced the same issue. Would you have any idea what problem i might be facing?
@GoCellPhoneRepair7 жыл бұрын
My first guess would be damage to the digitizer connector or something in that vicinity on the logic board. Before you removed the old screen were you able to determine if the original digitizer was still functional?
@AvinaashKuppusamy7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking your time in replying me. okay so my previous screen cracked because the battery got 'fat'. But since the speaker still worked and because i dont use a screen lock, as i swipe up, i can hear the phone being unlocked so on the broken screen the digitizer still works. Now, ive bought a LCD+Digitizer and replaced it and im where i am now, screen works but no touch is detected. I then got a replacement only to find the same issue. I also replaced the flex cable thinking that would be the problem but even after that im facing the problem. Yeah, i realize i repeated my story twice now haha, but any help will be appreciated. As far as i know, there are three connections from the display, one for video output, the smallest cable for backlight power and the last branched off cable being the digitizers connection. I have disassembled the device a few times in worry i made a mistake somewhere but im pretty sure i have not made one or have not come to notice it

Really hard to say. If I had the phone in front of me I'd take a look at it under a magnifier, preferably a scope and look for anything damaged/out of place near the connector. What is the black film between the screen & the body that you leave in places seen at 8:42 that is approx 4.5" x 2.5" & shields the body. Is it an issue if I have peeled it off? can i simply lay it back in place?
@GoCellPhoneRepair8 жыл бұрын
+Adrian Blong Im not sure what the correct term for that is but I would try to put it back in place if possible. It either cushions and insulates the LCD/serves some purpose in its display functionality. It may work without that but could affect the image on your screen.

I thought about foils, flexes, turning off battery before un plug it etc... I even added some copper foils between flexes. Appart of that everything works ! Then I can see on your video something that I could forget, could you tell tell me more about the foil at 13:00 please ? Sorry for my bad english, i'm french. Thank you in advance, best regards

Axoutatiser That sounds a lot like pressure on the display. Most likely something is pushing up against it from the back of the screen. I used to see this a lot with the HTC Vivid when there was not enough space between the lens and display also. I suspect one of the above is the problem and not the foil insulation.

Go Cell Phone Repair Are you describing a sort of puddle ? Hmmm it is very strange, I perfectly cleaned up everything with lot of caution, screwed reasonably. In fact, the problem really looks like a software issue, nearly like that : talk.sonymobile.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/21300i8E3BFDB0CB0B3690/image-size/medium?v=mpbl-1&px=-1 talk.sonymobile.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/21301i7A817A41F2A7EDF8/image-size/medium?v=mpbl-1&px=-1 With more text, you can see that it makes separate horizontal lines, feeling like refresh issue or interferences... Only on text, or video applis. I will show you more pictures next week, thank you so much

Oh I see. yes that looks like either software or interference. Do you think that you might have damaged the foil when you replaced it? That could be the problem. Hard to say for sure though.

Go Cell Phone Repair I put all the foils but one, the one you place on the LCD flex at 13:00 , I don't have it anymore :( That's why I was asking you what it looks like, to try making one myself and maybe resolve the issue. Or maybe I might damage something with electro-static or I don't know what else..!

Axoutatiser I wish that I could help you but I don't have one on hand right now. Not sure what it looks like exactly.

Hello! what is the black part you are prying on 5:00? i managed to rip it off the cable :(
@GoCellPhoneRepair8 жыл бұрын
That's going to be the volume, power, and camera button cable. There is also a microphone attached at the lower end. You can order one for around $9. Just look for "xperia z1 flex cable" and make sure that it looks like yours.

Hi !, You have used a tool called Heat Gun, but if a don't have it , ¿can i used a hair dryer??? ¿what do you suggest me?. Thanks.
@GoCellPhoneRepair9 жыл бұрын
You can use a blow dryer it will just take longer to heat up the surface.
@anganx8 жыл бұрын
At what temperature did you use the heat gun ?
@GoCellPhoneRepair8 жыл бұрын
+angan You want the surface warm to the touch but not so hot that it would burn you. I shoot for about 100 degrees F.

The last flex connector wont stay plugged in - it fits just keeps falling out. It's the last one to connect after the battery cover is replaced. Any tips?

@go cell phone repair my cell got damaged..i dropped it twice and the screen went black,although alarm was working,i somehow wept it off....just by guessing... then my brother took it to some repair shop... after he brought it back, it's brightness doesn't change no matter how mych i try it...secondly when i recieve call,other party gets a loud noise, they cant hear me... what wud be the problem...
@GoCellPhoneRepair7 жыл бұрын
Wow. Sounds like a problem with the repair. I can't really give you a short answer as it's hard to say what they messed up but I would take it back to the shop and see if they will fix it for you. If is was something that they caused I'd think they would want to take care of it.
@42akasha7 жыл бұрын
yeah,that's the the only way now.. well.i think i should send it back to the same person who repaired it, your video has guided me enough... i ll tell him he messed it up...with the final flexible tape that you attached in the end..i think it was for microphone right...? u know he told me that my speaker wire was damaged so he also fixed it...i remember my phone was completely okay ,it was just black screen...even alarm and touch was okay... he lied... and it is useless to argue with such people.... anyways... thanks a lot

phone won't power on after changing the screen. I'm guessing that I've missed a connector or something. is there anything in particular that I should check again?

Nothing special about this model that I can think of. I really hate to offer generic answers but with post repair problems it usually falls into one of a few categories. I've made a post for general troubleshooting here: gocellphonerepair.com/how-t/troubleshooting/ Hopefully that will help.
