Solid info there, Erica. You and I both are having issues with the cam. First hour out of the box my camera app had to shut down because the camera was "too hot", according to a message from my phone, lol. Still a nice device so far though. And you're right, for Sony this is a much better display than their others, but it's still lacking a tad, (imo).

If you record to an external class 10 sd card it should fix the heat problem and probably any other problems like the voice sync

Isn't this a known issue? Or is this not about the 4K-shooting? And maybe this is asking too much, but do you think you could do a video where you explain colors? What are good colors and how does one measure and judge it? Because when I hear and see you explaining the gamut and stuff, I'm just talking your word for it, and the schematics don't really have an added value to me since I don't understand them. And I think I'm not the only one.

***** you need to understand extremely basic color science. It's as simple as understand additive color mixing. White light has all colors of the rainbow or all visible frequencies to our eye. Also our eyes have cones inside of them for red green and blue. With all of these mixed together at different intensities we get all the colors that we can physically see. So when I show you a CIE diagram you see the most basic red green and blue primary colors. Then we have our secondary colors which are created by adding together the primaries. Yellow is created from mixing red and green for example. Then we have cyan and magenta. All the hues in between are created from some mix of red green and blue at different intensities (full intensity for all red, green and blue makes white, no intensities for R G B makes black. Play with the other intensities for each primary color in steps from 0-255 and we get all the colors. 255,255,0 makes yellow this is simply red and green at the highest intensity with no blue. 100,100,0 is also some shade of green just a different saturation or lesser intensity. ) I am not able to explain all this in video. All I can assume if you are from the United States is that you paid attention in your elementary and middle school science classes about how to add light to get different colors.

Hey Erica Griffin I have a question, and you gotta be honest... You have tiny hands (I do too) are you comfortable with the z2, does it lay good in your hand because it looks like it has "sharp edges" I sold my note 3 a week ago for a moto x and havn't regret it yet. Oh and btw, love your videos

My 4K video syncs perfect with the audio. I'm not having any issues with the camera like what a lot of other people are experiencing. Just curious, what is your manufacturing date? You can find it under the microSD tray. Mine is 14W16 (2014 Week 16). I also noticed on your charger it had 250mA while mine is 300mA

Erica, to activate widgets on a locked screen just go to settings > security > activate widgets. You can then select what you want to use without unlocking the screen. Cheers

I LOVE the M8. The speakers are just to die for! I hate wearing earphones so it really is fantastic. BUT the camera is soooo poor =( it never gets the exposure correct and HDR just doesn't work properly. I hope they fix it.

thanks I take a lot of pictures and videos I I have a 17 month old Doberman the pictures are so so and the video I guess would be filmed in HD if it's probably the better way to go the pictures are so so the speakers are the best on the phone I ever had

Erica Griffin The 4k audio bug sounds like a software issue, or the CPU can't make the audio keep up with the video. This is my istimation. I think it is more than likely a software issue. The Z2 has the snapdragon800, right?

Hi Ms Erica, I noted you leave the white balance very very high in red and also very high in blue, the green is not adjusted. Could it affected your gamma curves results? The phone in this video screen look very redish. The recommended white balance is leave the red 0 and adjust the blue and green up to 30+ each depend on your preference.

Hi Erica chk if u have a dead pixel on your z2 display. Put it in full brightness and give it a black wallpaper. I got 2 units which has the same issue.

Got the Z2 yesterday to replace my HTC One M7. Very pleased with it so far. Out of all of the current flagships it just seemed to make the fewest compromises, to me anyway. The S5 is a nice package, but it's build quality is just not something I can deal with, it's 2014 Samsung, please make your expensive phone feel expensive. Also I can't stand touchwiz and don't like the idea of purchasing a phone only to immediately root and flash the OS. The Z2 just seemed to do everything I wanted, pretty decent camera, gorgeous screen and a battery that lasts more than a day. Great review as always though Erica. As for console games to suggest. If you like a story like I do then stuff like The Last of Us or Heavy Rain would be great. Even Mass Effect 1-3? LA Noire is pretty neat, if you like lots of talking and hunting for clues :D

regarding your 4K recording, what kinda of microSD card do you use? what is the speed of the microSD card? I believe it's the card speed that cause the issue, I am assuming you are recording into the MicroSD card not the phone memory. I do have the Z2 phone, and I don't have that issue.

I am glad Sony didnt pre apply a screen protector but if this glass scratches easily and if I am compelled to use a protector then I might reconsider purchasing this device. Remember to turn on clear audio+ and the dynamic normaliser, it makes it way louder and sounds on par as the M8

I did, and it sounds uneven. Would not be surprised if this is because one speaker is a bit louder...the bottom one I think and it just becomes exaggerated with all of Sony's effects. That's just what they are, effects.

In no way does it get as loud as the M8 though still. The speakers are just inferior unfortunately without a doubt. That's the beauty of having both at my disposal.

Great review Erica. I tested the 4k video recording on a display Z2 in the Sony store today and it was also out of sync on playback. Not a BIG deal but it is a bit disappointing. Is there a fix for this issue yet? Trying to decide between Z2 and G3... Which would you recommend? Or another? Thanks!

i have my z2 black for 5 months now and i love it. magnetic chager is a gr8 feature...will never go back to a phone whit normal charger. display also very good, sound is ok, double front speakers are also a nice feature (very good for youtube and clips). never ad probems with it. works perfect. i added tempered screen protector on front and back, no case for it. very happ with it. was a galaxy fan before but this is far nicer

I have just recieved my UK version and 4K video is out of sync also. But I think skin colour tones look good..... But I am having to return it for a replacement unit as one of my charging dock connections is broke. The spring is compressed and the brass connector won't come back up... But I still love the phone... It's a keeper.

About the bad audio sync.. I bet on some background process that Sony was doing in the first hours of using the device. Because 4k is so demanding on the soc any process with a high priority could do that. But it depends on how the software was made.. Still my favorite bet is on some indexing or another background process there. After all since it works after some time something must be missing now that wasn't before. Great device by the way

Erica, million thumbs up for your review. You are definitely my favourite gadget reviewer in KZbin. To my point, have you had any problem when checking the phone for its waterproof thingy? ( i dont know how to put what i mean into words). Anyhow, I tried splashing some water on it (not immersed it under water) and now my call quality suffers. Anyone who called me on my phone says I sound like im calling underwater. Please let me know if anyone else is having the same problem. (All flaps were completely closed btw)

Speakers need to dry out before you use them again, the weird sound is because of small water drops... No damage has been done to the phone, just keep it in a warm place speakers down.
