All I want to say, when it comes to form + functionality..nothing can compete with this guy...and as an engineer, i do appreciate the precision machining that went into manufacturing it..and as an enthusiast audiophile, I'm very impressed with the audio..and lab tests show they exhibit a flat frequency response....and about the distortion, it has pretty low IMD and THD...plus sound modding is a piece of cake....then there are custom roms with further audio enhancements.....except the camera, this is perhaps one of the most (nearly) perfect phones in the planet..

You know I subscribed because you really give an indepth and unbiased opinion on each phone. I work in the cell phone repair industry so its nice while I am at work to watch videos exactly like these so I can stay up to date! But I will be honest I think the LG G3 is definitely up and coming! I've repaired and played with it and its just outstanding, and thats coming from an Apple guy! So thank you for the review you're doing an awesome job!

I loved the HTC One m7. I had gone from Blackberry Curve to iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 to iPhone 5. Then I got the m7 and LOVED it. I had never liked Androids before Jelly Bean and everyone I saw with Samsung phones showed a lot of lag, stuttering, dropped frames, etc. But the m7 was buttery smooth. I just got an m8 two days ago after contemplating the Moto X and LG G3. But I love how buttery smooth the Sense UI is. I like how it doesn't feel bloated like Touch Wiz, and I've had no experience with LG so I was a little hesitant there. But all in all, I'm happy with the m8. It charges waaaaay faster than the m7 did. The battery lasts longer. I love that it has an SD card slot now. I just throw a 64gb card in there and never worry about switching cards frequently, thus not having to carry around a tray removal tool. Personally, I've never been big on relying on my phone's camera for extravagant stuff. I was never really too impressed with any of my iPhone cameras. I have a couple of Go Pros and a DSLR and a couple regular point and shoot digital cameras from the mid 2000's that still fare pretty well. For my Facebook and Instagram, the HTC One does just fine. Vacationing and traveling....I have alternative cameras for that. But anyway. Very fair review. I love the HTC One and recommend it anyone that wants a GREAT Android experience and wants a versatile, robust phone that they can count on. It's definitely a champ, and I will NEVER go back to iOS ever again. Never.

I really appreciate how loud headphones get when you plug them into this phone, as you said the volume is much higher than on other devices and you can use more "serious" headphones, when you use the Audio Technica ATH M50 headphones with something like the Samsung Galaxy S5 they sound *really* quiet even on 100% volume, on the other hand, when I plug them into my HTC One M8, I just listen to them on 75% all the time because anything louder than that just hurts my ears. And I used to think that the iPhone gets ridiculously loud. Unfortunately people tend to overlook this quality, and then complain about their headphones being too quiet.

At our tech stores, you don't really get to test real world situations, besides, every now and then there can be some sponsorship situations; I've got relentlessly pushed to buy something I really didn't want Lol. In that regard, I really like your concept, you get to learn a lot and make an educated purchase. Thanks for your work. I guess you predominantly buy your own products to review. So, I'd not like to ask for something that would place an economical burden on you . Still, If you can get your hands on different products like laptops, cameras etc for free, I would prefer to learn about them on your channel.

I have a HTC One (M7) and I "plan" on getting the M9 when it's released next year (or whatever HTC decides to name it), but HTC HAS to get the camera right with this one. Their last two flagship have been great devices with a "but" and the "but" on both has been the camera. I hope they get the camera right in 2015, because they have nailed so many other components of a flagship device with the "One" series.
@garykeegan4209 жыл бұрын
Fun Fact about the camera . Use a tripod and get into manual mode and and put the white balance to 2600 iso 1600 shutter speed 4 and focus at the highest setting . Do this at night and take a picture of the night Sky. If u do it rite you can get some nice pictures of the stars .

Thanks for the in-depth review. Actually still thinking about getting this device. Apparent great battery life, screen, software and sound. Hopefully an early update to Android L. Just waiting to see what HTC announce on the 8th. Besides the camera, the only other catch is 16gb of internal. I download Google Play videos to watch offline. Can't save them to external since DRM protected. May have to start ripping DVDs. Grrr. Anyways, would be good to see how you compare the M8 to the Z3 and Note 4. Keep up the good work.

Will you be doing a full review (like this) for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact?
@steveg817110 жыл бұрын
That the pixels collect more light isn't even up for debate as it's a fact, taking shots in a dull room will result in shots at least 50% brighter than anything else on the market. Since most of my photos are taken indoors this is the best camera I've ever owned. You can hold the camera button in to get burst mode or you can simply double tap it quickly to take 2 shots in a row. I also love the slow motion video recording at 90fps. My only downside is I'd only owned the phone for 1 day and I was super careful with it but somehow managed to pick up a scratch on the camera lens, not part that matters but the outter circle which was a bit of a wake up. Put a rubber case on it and it still leaves the camera lens exposed a great deal, even the case which comes with the phone. You reguarly find youself putting your finger or thumb on the lens whilst taking the phone out of your pocket which leaves fingerprints on it. The double tap to turn the screen on can get irritating when you simply want to clean your screen quickly as the screen will come on repeatedly. The battery is amazing and can go 3-4 days with light use and charging the phone takes hardly any time. Thanks for your video Erica.

I used to be a Galaxy fan, but switched to the HTC one (original) and I consider it to be the best phone I have ever had. (I know, I'm way behind the times now.... lol) My only issues have really been the funky camera exposure, which seems the same for the M8 and the glass covering my camera lens broke, although I do not recall dropping it! It's been torture because all my pics are blurry. I'm waiting for a phone upgrade to hopefully get a newer HTC. Maybe by then they will have the image stabilization and other camera issues fixed as I do like to take a lot of pics/vids. The manual settings and option to save camera settings on the M8 look pretty cool though. :) I am tempted to try out the new iPhone 6 since there are some special promotions from Sprint for loyal customers right now, but I seriously doubt I can make the switch from Android to iPhone!

Given the marginal spec improvements and loss of OIS relative to the M7, as well as both running Sense 6 now, is it worth it to upgrade from the M7 to the M8? With Sense 6 now on my M7 the only complaint I have is battery life on the M7 (I am a heavy user when not on Wi-Fi; photos, news feeds, Twitter, and email, but not media or games). Thanks.

Erica Griffin I don't think it's too late for Part 2 - it's great timing! In between Parts 1 and 2 I was able to try out an M8 myself (upgrading from my M7); I love the phone's build, but the bluish-gray color temperature of the white color on the M8 (which you mentioned in your Part 1 review) was a deal breaker for me, unfortunately; it looks like a sickly, sad color, and doesn't provide enough contrast between the blue-white background and text. I'm back to my original M7, which I love, but I need a bigger screen. So I'm awaiting all the manufacturers' upcoming new phone announcements - fingers crossed! And CONGRATULATIONS on your engagement!

I always love how honest you are in your reviews. But something I don't quite get, you said many times during this review that you were disappointed with this and that, but in the end you're praising the phone? With things like it getting really hot, the back getting very slippery, and dirty so readily. Also I have never understood the need for great ext speakers on a phone. When I'm home I have my excellent TV, or stereo to listen to. On my car I have a much better stereo. And when i'm on the go, don't want to disturb others, so I used my Bluetooth over the ears. When would i evert need to have great ext speakers on my phone? I think the m8 is a vertu good phone. I just don't think it is as good as everyone said it was. Sill nice review.
