While that may seem like ur reacting fast. In reality it signals will have already crossed ur chemical synapses and back towards ur finger. Meaning ur cognitive was already in the process of getting ur body to more. That is a false start. Thats nice and all but you can't compare the click of a mouse to a reaction start. Noah: 1- Just had to literally move to consider a start Clicking to stop de video: 1- Clicking the mouse or space bar which implies pushing the button all the way through 2- Send the input to the machine 3- The input will be processed and act upon based on the internet velocity So its literally impossible for someone to react faster on pausing the video with a click of a button than Noah react start. Not even Noah himself cliking on the mouse/space bar lol
@Luis1107 ай бұрын
the blocks have sensors that measure the applied forces. your statement is wrong and it works like this: 0- Reacting to the gun 1- Initiiating movement by actively pushing against the block pads (force applied must exceed a certain amount to be registered) 2- Send the input to the machine 3- The input will be processed furthermore the video sequence you are watching has already been loaded and can be pause client sided - without any internet connection at all
@Lscott-fk2sn7 ай бұрын
@@Luis110 still though, assuming youre on a typical device there will be 1: 16.7ms delay as the framerate is probably capped at 60, additional input delay on many devices (touch screens aren't known for their speed, laptop keyboards usually have a 20-100ms delay, a basic office mouse will have a 10 ms delay), safe to say thats another 20ms delay on most devices, so right there you have roughly 37ms delay added. as for other issues, a keyboard or mouse doesnt send a signal upon contact but rather upon release, the fastest people in the world can microtap under 5ms, but that is an additional delay, most people will hold for over 20ms though. In favourable conditions, the delay will be around 10-15ms (which is already far slower than systems used to detect sprinters (delay of around 1ms) (if you have a gaming setup etc) in bad conditions delay could be 150ms.
@OutperformOfficial7 ай бұрын
Great points, @Luis110! Device latency indeed plays a significant role in reaction times, especially in settings not optimized like professional setups. You're right that the frame rate is capped at 60. We did a lot of testing and settled on a ~28ms delay from the gun sound to the timer starting, definitely not perfect, just a fun way to try and get a sense of reaction times.

@OutperformOfficial7 ай бұрын
Your leg reaction times are quite good. They indicate a strong ability to respond to stimuli, which is beneficial in various sports, particularly in sprinting.. The additional time you noted when interacting with a screen can be attributed to the mechanical latency of the device (the time it takes for the screen to register a touch), which is not a reflection of your physical reaction speed but rather the technology's response time. Overall, your reaction times are competitive. Keep working at it and they'll get even faster.

Based on this, it's hard for me to think that athletes purely JUST wait until they hear the gun before they start moving. I think it's more likely they predict when the gun's going to go, then start moving at about that time. Usually it's good enough, but sometimes they're wrong. The athletes should have 2 chances (the whole field, not each athlete) to react to reduce DQ's. Idk why they changed it to the way it is now.
