XPR-50 - Black Ops 2 Weapon Guide

This time, we're covering the XPR-50.
This new semi-automatic sniper rifle rounds out the precision options on offer, and is unlocked for use at level 52.
The XPR-50 is a fictional semi-automatic sniper rifle system that fires the powerful .50 BMG anti-materiel round.
Its closest real-life match is in a prototype Barrett Model 98 Bravo: visually similar but bolt-action instead, and chambered for .338 Lapua.
The M98B was introduced in 2008, and so the XPR-50 - which presumably stands for 'Experimental Purpose Rifle, .50 Calibre' - can be deemed a potential future derivative of this Barrett design.
In-game, damage is high: the XPR is capable of a one shot kill anywhere to the head, neck, arms, upper torso and mid torso.
When suppressed, this one-hit area is reduced to just the head, neck, upper arms and upper torso.
Like all of the sniper rifles, there's no drop-off in damage over range - so you can quickly eliminate opponents at any distance with a well placed shot: and again, like its peers - the XPR's ability to pierce cover is very good.
Fire cap is moderate, limiting your maximum fire rate to 375 rounds per minute.
This is a little lower than the SVU-AS, but considerably faster than the other two bolt-action rifles.
Hipfire performance is poor, and so despite the potent one-shot ability and semi-automatic firemode, you should seek to avoid close-range encounters.
Rapid fire can work as a last-ditch defense, but it's not entirely reliable.
Recoil is moderate, and can prove troublesome should you fire the weapon too quickly.
Instead, it pays to take a slower pace, waiting for the recoil to settle before firing again: this will help ensure maximum effectiveness, and prevent you from wasting too much ammunition.
Aim time is slow, on par with all other sniper rifles except the faster-handling Ballista, at 400 milliseconds.
Your mobility is fairly average, as you'll move at 95 percent of the base speed - the same as a typical assault rifle, as with most of its peers.
Magazine capacity is fair, although the semi-automatic fire will readily chew through your supply if you're not careful.
8 high-power rounds can be put to good use with a degree of precision, however - and Extended Clip will take this count to 11.
Reloads are the slowest in class: at 3.5 seconds, you don't want to be caught empty without a backup plan.
For a typical sniper role a slower reload isn't necessarily a huge risk, however - it's best to employ this weapon from a safe firing location - so backing out of the fight for a few seconds to resupply can normally be done without peril.
Of all the sniper rifles on offer, the XPR is perhaps the most forgiving in tighter spaces - with a much larger one-hit kill area than the SVU-AS, and faster follow-up shots than the two bolt-action rifles on offer.
In such a role, the XPR can shine - and when paired with the ACOG scope it becomes a heavy-duty designated marksman's rifle, perfect for locking down an area.
The XPR-50 is a powerful sniper rifle which retains a good potential for rapid follow up shots, rendering it ideal for repelling multiple enemies in rapid succession.
It offers similar lethality to the Ballista, but you gain the advantage of the semi-automatic fire, and thus don't need to cycle the bolt after every shot.
While you lack the handling speed of the similar yet more sprightly bolt-action, you will enjoy lower reliance on first shot precision, and as such the XPR-50 will prove more forgiving during typical use.
Like most of the sniper rifles, the XPR is slow to handle - you'll find the greatest rewards in taking a prepared position rather than rushing in on an aggressive bent.
However, you must ensure good fire control - else the relatively heavy recoil will carry your shots above your opponent's head, and you'll achieve nothing but a waste of ammunition.
Still, a modicum of patience will reap rewards, and this weapon will earn both the ire of your enemy...
...and healthy amount of XP to boot .

Was wondering when the legend Ahoy would come into my reccomended again, nostalgia time! One of the best snipers, personal semi auto favorite (DSR in the bolt gang), plopping a Ballistic CPU, Laser and Extended mags always provided a great close range spam potential and stability over long range but suffers a little in mobility. Good times with it in Hijacked with friends.

8 rounds, OHK for upper torso and higher, and semi automatic all in one. If it weren't for how popular bolt action rifles were in the game, it would see a lot more use. Still, balancing felt overall better compared to BO3. Snipers were same risk, much higher reward

I would have thought that it would be based off of the Barrett M82/M107 series of rifles. They both fire the same round, .50 BMG, they're both semi-automatic, and you can see that the barrel reciprocates slightly when you fire the XPR-50, meaning that they're based off of the same short-recoil semi-automatic action, in which the barrel moves backwards slightly before unlocking from the bolt, allowing the bolt to continue moving backwards under inertia, thus cycling the action. I can see the similarities with the M-98B, but those appear to be cosmetic, while the similarities with the M82/M107 are all technical. My guess is that this was the first modern-style Call of Duty that didn't feature the 'Barrett .50 Cal' as a guaranteed one-shot-kill weapon, that role having been taken up by the DSR-50 in this case, and that they wanted you to have to work to gain access to a weapon that is capable of rapid one-shot-kills, unlike previous iterations which gave you literally the best sniper in the game right off the bat.

To be fair, I think quick-scoping started in CoD4. because the M40A3 with an ACOG scope had 75 damage as opposed to the normal 70(in relation to the 100 health players spawn with). This means that if you were to use Stopping Power as well, you could one-shot anyone to any part of the body unless they were using Juggernaut.

Interesting class concept. I personally prefer the XPR in a more normal sniper role, but I do agree on the fact that up close, if pointed correctly, it can be a dangerous weapon. Once got a quad feed on headquarters when the entire enemy team spawned near my position at a choke point. All of them were my friends XD

Not only will it be the classic final unlock like the AK-47 in MW2, but it's also an exciting weapon to end this series with it's unusual rate of fire. I'm sure you're aware of the AN-94's 2-round burst firing at 1800rpm in reality, AND if it were anything higher than the in-game 900rpm would no doubt be OP. I do agree that the maps aren't well suited for sniping, but I'd rather only have to hit someone once rather than twice to kill them. Sometimes you don't have enough time to hit them twice, so you need a one hit kill weapon instead of a more spammy one, I do get what you're saying though, and the SVU-AS is usually more suited for the size of the maps that BO2 has.

You'd have to see them coming. And even though a ghillie suit makes you look like a walking tree , snipers will, more often than not, get the drop on you. Quick-scopers also have the ability, like most players, to adjust their aim before firing. So if they miss, they usually missed on their own, in my experience. In real life, soldiers can hear the sniper shoot and if they immediately duck, their head won't explode if the sniper was far enough away. Not the same in CoD. Zero bullet travel time.

Well, like Stu said before, it's hard to actually nerf quick-scoping without nerfing sniper rifles as a whole. In MW2 and MW3, I didn't quick-scope but if I didn't have Sleight of Hand Pro or Quickdraw, I felt sluggish as a sniper. Then Black Ops takes that out and sniping is generally more difficult, as it's harder to scope in and kill someone before they get to cover. Treyarch learned from their mistakes and Black Ops II has better sniping, in my opinion.

Best sniper rifle by far. Like the 50 caliber rifles seen in MW2 and MW3, the XPR50 is forgiving and quick killing. Sure bolt action rifles are cool, but you can't deny that a high damage, semi auto rifle can kill more enemies faster. In the right hands this is the greatest sniper rifle.

No. It's literally impossible to kill someone AFTER they fired their gun, but BEFORE the target is struck because there is exactly 0 time between the two events. There is no bullet travel time, meaning the instant the server recognizes I shot my gun, whatever I was aiming at gets hit. It may look like you shot your gun but what you aimed at didn't get hit. That's because the server did not register you shot your gun because of lag. You shot on your screen but the server didn't acknowledge that.
