2:40 this is not a question of "taking the time and effort to make it work", it's a question of what you lose when doing it this way. The resistance of a hinge determines how 'floppy' the LCD is, if the resistance is low, the screen may move if you do (in a car, on the bus, walking through a datacenter, etc). If the resistance is high but the laptop isn't heavy enough (especially at the front of the base), lifting the screen will lift the base. All Dell has to do is change the pressure of the hinge's resistance plates, and the laptop will/won't open with one hand.

Here in Aus, the full price for the base model is $2.598.99 and the highest config is $3.298.99. yeh, that's the downside of 16:10 aspect ratio: most video's on the internet are 16:9, older ones 4:3, meaning that with 16:10 you will have black bars nearly all the time. Sure, it is great for situations where you *do* have a 16:10 video or movie, but otherwise it isn't.
@midlander81864 жыл бұрын
A 16x10 or a 3x2 aspect ratio is much better for productivity, since you need not scroll as much as with a 16x9 aspect ratio. I've hated the 16x9 aspect ratio since it became common many years ago. 16x9 is for content consumption. Glad to see taller screens becoming more widely available.

@SysPowerTools They shouldn't solder on the RAM, but also the RAM is much less likely to suffer a critical hardware failure than the headphone jack, where you're actually plugging in a physical connector all the time. Agree about 4GB of ram. The point about AMD is way off though, the 3200U is vastly inferior to the i7-1065g7 in both single and multicore performance. I actually would like to see one of the new AMD processors (like the 4800U) in an XPS 13, but since these processors were announced in January after the XPS, the timeline obviously doesn't work for this model. There's also the issue of Thunderbolt 3: I'm not aware of any new AMD laptops supporting it, and USB 4.0 (the likely replacement) is also still in the future.

In all honesty, this video pushed my decision to purchase the XPS 13 9300. However, after just 5 days of use, I am considering on returning it because of several issues that just hinder my productivity. I recently bought the XPS 13 9300 (1920x1200) Touch display. I'm a premed student studying for the MCAT and I use my laptop everyday to study and I'm not a tech person whatsoever. Yes, it's sleek, the typing experience is great, colors are vivid, it's lightweight, etc.. BUT I've come across several issues with the audio, Bluetooth connection, and now screen glitches. For some odd reason I can't post a review on the Dell website, so please read my review on the tech support site: www.dell.com/community/XPS/Dell-XPS-13-9300-First-Week-of-Use-Audio-Resolved-Now-SCREEN/m-p/7635807#M64657 I'm considering on returning my Dell XPS 13 and search for a new one ASAP. I've only had this laptop for 5 days now, and just shocked with what I've worked with so far.... Dave and other reviewers are very convincing in how brilliant this laptop is, but for those considering this laptop, don't be surprised if you run into errors/hiccups. /:

I got one of these a few weeks ago, and here are a few things I'm not seeing mentioned in the product reviews. The Fan! note, I got the most hooked up model (it cost something like $1,900) the fan goes crazy even if you're not really pushing the laptop, something like starting google chrome will make it fire up... and boy when that thing fires up it literally sounds like a lawnmower. When you move the laptop around while the fan is running you can hear it moving/wobbling in there... the fan is running 95% of the time when using it... it's not great. Another thing that's happened to me several times is the trackpad becomes unresponsive. I've noticed this happens when it's sitting on my lap, I think the body bends and somehow block you from clicking on the trackpad. Overall, the performance is lacking. Paying as much as this machine cost, I expect no lag never the less a laggy experience when doing everyday things like email and youtube... not impressed at all. The screen is really nice. That's about it.
