the battery drain is caused by the wifi wake on LAN mode. you can disable it from the network adaptor/configure.

Thank you for the follow up, I was debating this vs mbp13 and after a couple of negative reviews regarding the 9300 I decided to go with the mbp and even though the price was higher than the xps running boot camp and even in general the mbp is a top tier stellar device and as someone who came from building my own pc to falling into the eco system I don’t see myself going back just due to the superb quality and experience I’ve had using the mbp, I’m actually quite disappointed that their going arm because I would have definitely continued buying them in the future

I had so many problems with my 9300, the final one was when the motherboard broke. I'm thinking now it's just not worth fixing it and sticking to an old far more durable Thinkpad.

My top-notch XPS bought way back in 2016 (4K touch display, maximum RAM, top specs) already had this sleep problem awakening when closed inside my backpack. Forget about upgrading BIOS, better hope this will get fixed in a 10-year time span. I am surprised the problem remains while other laptops e.g. SAMSUNG don't have this problem. Finally After little over a year the battery started to inflate risking to leak and explode, the chassis and keyboard were bending to conform the "pillow-battery" and the computer ran so hot that ultimately stopped working. To my biggest surprise, I still read reviews nowadays mentioning this inflating battery issue after 1-2 years of use, which is risky considering their maximum (optional) warranty period of 2 years.

Bought it just because Dell does some good work for compatibility with Linux. PopOS 20.04 works like a charm, only tweaks that had to be done were installing CPU profile gnome extension (or tlp), disabling some bios settings and automatic screen brightness. Oh and fprint sensor works, but is outshined by windows. Still, no serious problems as you've described them :)

Hey, I really appreciate your afford and love your true explanation. I am a little confused with Dell XPS 9310 standard and 2-in-1. Can you suggest me if there is no money issue, I mean if I can get exact same specs for both these laptops at the same price, which one should I buy? Which one is more practical as a laptop? Thanks in advance.

I am debating whether to buy XPS 13 or the MacBook Air M1. In Canada the XPS13 is so expensive that I might just go with MacBook Air. I do use Office and Teams alot and so nervous about how that'll work on MacBook.
@smariko33 жыл бұрын
Totally, the new macbooks are extremely tempting. Seems like the office suit works suprisingly well through Rosetta on the new m1s so if you just use those apps, I wouldn't sweat it. The only caveat is I haven't seen teams be demonstrated on the m1 as of yet

The sleep mode battery drain is very intriguing to me, I had a surface laptop 3 with absolutely terrible coil whine. Before I returned it, I found a quick solution to mute the coil whine that did work. Though, at the cost of battery life. Maybe the Processor C-States have been disabled on your unit somehow, C-States basically controls sleep mode and such and saves power when the processor is idle. In fact on my SL3 after applying the patch, the battery would drain rapidly even in sleep mode, 10-15% the first hour and it would force itself to hibernate. Try installing ThrottleStop and checking if "C1E" is enabled or if that box is checked.

I have had my XPS 13 9300 for several months and the shipped image was not full of bloat ware and it runs and sleeps just right. I’m very happy with it and heat has not been an issue which I have with my work Dell 7410 2 in 1.

My XPS 13 completely broke down but Dell Support was actually very helpful and replaced the entire motherboard for free (in accordance to my warranty). Now the laptop is working perfectly. I'm hoping that the models replaced from now on have these issues fixed so that others don't have to deal with this, especially for the price they're selling these laptops for

Hey I was looking between the XPS 9310 and the new Macbook pro 13" with the M1 chip. I'm seriously very confused which to get. I only need it for light coding + University work/ Netflix and browsing. Both are very solid options but if you could reccomend it would help.
@smariko33 жыл бұрын
Yeh tough decision for sure. Both will handle what U need to do easily. I'd go xps at a FHD+ resolution if you are keen to game through an egpu down the line or if you want a really nice looking laptop. It will also give you a micro SD and USBc on both sides for easier charging access. BUT if U want tons of battery life that will last U easily the whole day or if you looking to video edit, get the MBP

@@smariko3 Yeah I'm not really looking for battery since I'm going to be home untill the university decides to open up. Would the i5 version be okay? Since I dont have a huge budget. And thanks for the recommendation it helped I'll look into it to see if they get any sale on it for Black Friday.
