I did think over the years that Gigachad was very… performatively selfless, yes bending over backwards to help others but also making sure they knew he did so. It's good to have it confirmed as a kind of flaw, as well as a strength.

The oathbreaker line is an underrated moment for me because, like the rest of the video, it works on multiple levels (but in a particularly unexpected way). What seems like an obvious win for Gigachad -- refusing to take the bait and stoop to his level -- betrays a willingness to sacrifice personal (and possibly group) comfort, or at least his own hopes for that particular character and campaign, all in the name of "yes, and".

Ok, I actually finished the video now, and I've gotta say, you can officially be XP to level 4 now, because you've taken your writing to another level. That was some of the best narrative craft I've seen, from introduction to buildup to sparring to climax... I revelled in every unexpected turn. All I gotta say to the DM is, Yes, it had to go that hard. Yes, it had to be that meta. Yes, it has to be that unapologetically crazy. Because it's you. And we thank you--each of you, all of you--for that. Keep going, JP(s).

This is the best XP to Level 3 video Jacob has ever made. At first I thought that it was just going to be Wizard being an ass until Chad finds a way to demoralize him. It wasn't until mid way through when they start comparing each others need to have control over the table, how they're part of the same coin and who they are to Jacob himself that this video really started getting me hooked. The part about Jacob talking about his time as a youtuber both as himself and the 2 characters was the cherry on the perfectly made cake (The chance for more Wizard and Chad adventures is cool too)

Agreed. I'll be honest, I don't agree with every single one of Jacob's takes on details of DMing or playing, but this is just so relatable and fundamental to the RPG experience. The desire for control (agency) and trying to keep that in check. Without it, playing is almost meaningless, but with too much of it, you make the game meaningless for everyone else at the table.

I especially loved that the Wizard was willing to use different things he'd experienced in previous wizard episodes in order to get the upper hand in their duel instead of just using Fireball, but still throwing in an attempt to use Fireball amidst all of it because that's still his favorite. And I loved the back and forth of their personalities clashing as well, the dialogue in general was excellent. I was on the edge of my seat, and I laughed a lot. 10/10

What I love about this skit, is that it follows pretty much an identical story structure as your typical dnd story. Starting off with a plot hook and then the players run with it and keep taking left turns until the story is completely different to what the dm, the players or us the audience could possible foresee coming. This is what makes ttrpg stories so different from any other type of story one can create. The only real comparable thing would be certain improv games. This skit feels like a dnd story. Incredible detail!

My friend & DM shared this in his *own* community. I have enjoyed much of your content. I wasn't really aware you've been doing this for 7 years. It was unexpected, but compelling to watch, and just got better & better. The last few minutes were so heart touching, vulnerable, and sincere. Really, the whole thing was. The D&D and entire TTRPG community is lucky to have your content amongst it. Keep on going. You are doing good things. You deserve the good things you gain from putting yourself & your passion out there like this.

Allow me to help with that IS, and hopefully anyone else's that happens to stumble on this comment. Ask yourself one question, and answer not from a position of overanalysis, but simply and honestly. Are you, and your players, having fun? Because that's how you really win D&D. Everything else is just window dressing. Nobody expects you to be some Matt Mercer, or even Jacob. As long as you're having fun, that's all that truly matters.

wa sthat really the end? I think he established they would keep going with those charcters because they;re fun to write with. Wizard is a great vehicle for branding and humor while Gigachad is exceptional at that relable feeling. I think the issue is Wizard and Gigachad wouldnt really be able to comepte because they are so meta and projections of Jacob because they stem from the same core so one can;t win over the other. heck wizard HAD a charcter arc but that was omitted ages ago remeber when the wizard died? then remeber when he suppsoedly gave up his wizarding powers after he pushed his friends too far? this isnt the end, the page turns and the chapter closes.

Dang, that hit . . . that was a crit on my heart strings. Found you 5 years ago and regularly refer your videos to new players. "Your backstory doesn't have to be an epic fable. Just remember there are other people at the table," that has morphed into my entire mindset while playing, DMing, or researching. Its a game, if people aren't having fun, we have no reason to play. Thanks Jacob, you make us smile, laugh, ponder, wonder, engage, challenge, and in today's rendition cry. Well done and thank you.

Idk if you intentionally created these characters with Sigmund Freud in mind, but you perfectly created the perfect Id (Wizard), Ego (Jacob), and Super Ego (Giga Chad). Any time I give an explanation of this concept, I’m coming straight back to this video.
@plantinapot9169
@plantinapot9169 8 ай бұрын
Freud is an ass, but that idea is pretty interesting. I think it doesn’t necessarily apply here though, gigachad and wizard were both just different manifestations of egotism. Superego is supposed to mean morals, but the wizard seemed to have his own morality and conviction. Ego being Jacob I can maybe see though, hm.

@@plantinapot9169On a surface level at least, it works. Giga Chad is not altruistic, but they still consider the feelings of the party overall to be most important, and pushes them all to be their best selves. Wizard does whatever idea first pops into his mind, consequences be damned. He has an agenda, but the Wizard still operates mostly on instinct.
