8:49 Xqc is right. Proper use of force is a criteria for self-defense. You can't use lethal force if your life (or someone else's life) is not in immediate danger. You are also not allowed to claim self-defense if you are the aggressor, and you can't claim self-defense if you are in the process of committing a felony. There are MANY exceptions to self-defense. And this case, obviously, is one of them.

I looked at the JCS video and footage etc to give info for anyone looking for it here who didn't see the ToS part or perhaps doesn't want to, aswell as some information from the comment section that I haven't personally verified, but will rely it anyway. That comment section info is at the bottom. The father pushed the guy, the guy falls to the ground, the guy on the ground sits up from what it looks like and pulls his gun, the moment he reached visibly for the gun, the father stopped his forward body momentum and started visibly backing off even turning his body away from the guy on the ground. Now here's a very crucial detail that I personally failed to realize when they mentioned he had 2.5 seconds to think. That is NOT the time after he was pushed. That is the time, and I saw this visibly in the footage, that the guy on the ground had to pull the trigger, 2.5 seconds where he was literally pointing the gun at this father. So to recap, father pushed guy, guy falls to ground, guy sits up while reaching for gun and pulls it out, the moment the father sees this motion/the gun he takes 3-4 steps back and starts turning his body away from the guy, this happens over 2.5 seconds where the guy on the ground is pointing the gun at him, he is holding the gun, fully ready to fire, for 2.5 seconds before shooting the father. Meaning while he was holding the gun, ready to shoot, the man was visibly walking away from this situation. He had 2.5 seconds EXTRA time before he shot as the gun was in his hands in your a-typical shooting stance. That part is crucial to understand. It didn't take 2.5 seconds to get pushed and the father to get shot, it took 2.5 seconds with this guy holding the gun ready to fire, until he actually fired. Comment Section Info: According to some, I haven't confirmed this myself. But according to some on the JCS video, he got 20 years and was allegedly also assaulted in jail by another inmate with a padlock in a sock. I'm not sure if this is true or not. I don't know how to look this up to confirm it. But I know some of you are curious what he got etc, and if someone could confirm this information, that'd be nice aswell. Don't take it as truth, as I have not confirmed it as truth.

Or simply put hitting somebody or using enough force to make the other person stop doing what they are doing or to deescalate the situation. Basically if somebody pushes you, you can push them back, or if somebody hits you you can hit them back, or if somebody attacks you with a knife or pulls a gun on you, and you somehow kill that person, self defense also applies, pushing=death is not self defense, that is murder

This. So fucking true. People think any negative interaction between Black people and white people And the black person is the “victim” is racist. Not only is that assuming black people are victims all the time it’s also extremely racist to assume that. I see this exact scenario in all walks of life like what I first said above . This was a cold blooded murder but the thing about this was this wouldve made 10x more sense (still not justified) if the person wouldve shot the guy who pushed him AS SOON as he was on the ground because MAYBE he couldve kept hitting him and that couldve been the thought process . But what happened here was the guy got shot as he was backing up and walking away and the guy took his sweet time to shoot him whereas it wouldnt have been as bad if he was shot as a response

I agree that it wasn't justified in the end but everyone saying its a clear-cut case is ignorant. He says that he "barely took 1 step" that means half a step. half a step can look the same whether you're backing up or going forward. he perceived it as him coming forward because he was just body checked to the ground out of nowhere and would have been in a state of confusion. I don't like the guy and I agree with him being ruled guilty but all of you idiots saying its obvious are just straight up wrong. EDIT: I also think some of you are underestimating how lethal getting checked to a solid floor can be. Even more so out of nowhere so you can't brace the fall. Could have EASILY lost his own life or been permanently paralyzed then and there.
