too bad its basically a mini walking similuatr movie though. Walk here, pull a lever, climb a ladder, occasionally throw an item to distract a creature, rinse repeat. It needed some variety, puzzles, collectibles, depth, and more investment in the characters. Heck even Rinnick who yhou get emotionally invested to hate him, but have no real opportunity to lower a big counter weight onto him or smthg. The game has no pay-off. Also no variety in the creatures, just the same tentacle blobs wandering around. Visually definitely impressive, but for a scenario of a horror game invovling an oil righ that opens a giant portal of inter-dimensional cthulu-esque evil, it had so many more opportunities to improve and have real scary moments.

"It needed some variety, puzzles, collectables, depth" No, no it didn't. It's a story-based game why the hell would you have collectables? That's stupid. "no real opportunity to lower a big counterweight onto him or something" The games are supposed to be realistic, in real life you wouldn't get a cool big final boss battle you'd most likely run away like a smart person with legs would do. "no variety in the creatures" Is literally wrong. You get literally chased by a head, and even the tentacle blobs have different variations from pure blob to half-human-half blob. "Walk here, pull a lever, climb a ladder, occasionally throw an item to distract a creature, rinse repeat." The game doesn't have the best gameplay, fair enough, but it's not focused on gameplay it's supposed to be focused on the characters and their relationships and most people seem to not care about the repetitiveness due to the fact the game is well crafted enough and short that it doesn't really become an issue for most people, except maybe you and other people. On an end note, if you didn't like the game fair enough, but most people did, why do you feel the need to go "Well actually the game is a walking simulator and it could've been better if they had colelvtgibles and puzzles🤓" when people say they like the game?

Spoiler Warning If you don’t get the ending, Caz stepping out the door is a flashback to the day he left for the rig. Suze was narrating a letter she wrote for Caz after feeling bad about the first one, but he’ll never get to read it. Also the very first cutscene and very last are identical. Only difference was she started off being upset, while at the end she promised to stay with him through everything. The last message Caz ever heard from his wife was her being frustrated and not wanting to stay with him. But, by the time Suze had forgave him, it was too late, and he would never be able to read it. Uhhh moral of the story is?????????? You shouldn’t try to run from your problems? Appreciate the time you have with the people you love, you never know if it’ll be the last time you speak to them? Idk if he understood the ending is about being selfless and not taking the chance of letting the thing grow and spread to the mainland. As far as the story goes, it’s a solid game. He was just stuck in his own personal mentality of never giving up rather just being selfless as Caz and trying to protect his family/the rest of humanity. Surprised he finished it tho xqcL

Doing the "selfless" thing is as old as time, it's personally stale. It's a lot more interesting through all the effort he's made to survive to that point, as well as to honour his promise to return home that he chooses to live. The ultimatum that it's either I choose to die and take this thing with me or the world will end is a little stupid, as you can't know that for sure. Like X said, I'd also prefer at least having the option to survive and return home, even if it dooms the world later. Ending A and B.

I’d have to re-listen to how he said everything but if I remember right it just seemed like he didn’t acknowledge it as just about being selfless for the potential greater good of society and saving many lives. He very quickly jumped to his own perspective on the situation and didn’t talk about the point of the game ending the way it did. Just made me wonder if he really considered the point of that decision. Tbh I’m on his side, I’d still try and just survive in a situation like that too.

He brought up the one guy who had a positive outlook, wanting his friends to survive, and juxtaposed that with the woman, who wanted suicide. The game gives off the vibe that these are two different outlooks you yourself can choose to have, but then forces you to agree with the woman. It personally rubs me the wrong way that the game had so many characters desiring for us to live, we survived up until that point and had characters mention our luck to have done so, gave us an illusion that there would be a choice at the end and then there isn't. Of course he dumbs it down but this is kind of in the ball park to what X is feeling I think.

I was waiting for this, can't wait for him to skip every dialog and completely ignore the story that's being told. Edit: The ending makes sense if you think about it. It's either you escape and bring the entity with you (because you are infected from the very beginning, when he drops to the water) or burn it down and die with it which is the most logical thing because it reaching mainland would be pretty fucked. Also it's good that we get linear games like this that tell a story instead of the "open world" type of games we usually get, it's nice to have something like this from time to time. The voice acting is amazing, the visuals are amazing and the story being told is pretty good. I find it funny that some of the people in chat disagreed with Finlay (like X did) and did get the point of the sacrifice but oh well, can't win them all.

Am I the only one who recognizes that Caz took his own life after losing his family and his job? The whole game is just him processing the journey over to the other side. The lighter could be representing the flame of life, and when he dropped it at the end, he was letting go of all his troubles and accepting to leave his family behind. You can even see his wife and two girls standing on the drill when he is about to drop the lighter. I don't know if this is actually what is going on, but this is my theory. If you or someone you know are suicidal, please seek help

Game writing was great to listen to but I couldn't imagine playing it and fixing the same fuse box 30 times and being a crouch simulator. Gameplay could've been more interactive as X said with more ways to interact with objects or variation between sequences, maybe get to do what Finley was doing instead of being a navigator, despite being only an electrician always doing fuses. It was certainly more cinematic than interactive but other than that I agree 7.5/10; Never a dull moment from the start to the end.
