I find it so stupid how the chat says "my bomb... killed people!?" sarcastically when showing Oppenheimer sad, its like they forgot that if he didnt build it quickly then the germans wouldve and wouldve killed everyone possible. He was chosen to build it, he didn't have a choice.

yup if not america, then other countries would develop it. the technology was already out and it was just a matter of who was faster. idk about you, but I'd much rather the allies win than nazi germany, imperial japan or communist russia. (yes ik russia joined the allies during ww2).
@F34RDSoldier805 Жыл бұрын
@@CSRT123 I mean not only that, there are a ton of stuff that was brought up after with nuclear energy. I think, as of now, the best solution to fighting global warming will be using more nuclear energy and that was brought by him and his fellow scientists at the time. Yes they built the bomb that killed a lot of people, but no matter what, even if not during a war, research on nuclear energy and the trinity test itself would inevitably happen. Science is the discovery of things. They didn't invent these things. And whether it was during that time done by those scientists, today, or in the distant future, these things would be discovered by humanity. The bomb being dropped was an act done by the US govt and the allies. Just because someone invented the gun, it doesn't mean all the deaths that come from it are the invetors fault. Same goes for literally anything that can kill people, which is a lot of things. He might have felt heavy guilt later in his life, but that was because he put that burden on himself. But I think that's equivalent to giving your car keys to someone (clearly sober and clear minded) and that person causes a car accident that kills multiple people. Is it your fault it happened because you gave the keys to that person? No, and anyone who thinks so is an idiot. I see this as the same thing, but there are obviously a lot of other questions that will be asked, so this will always depend and that's why the making of the bomb and the research done in the Manhattan project itself is a very grey area, whereas the dropping of the bomb itself is undoubtedly evil. Whether that was a neccessary evil or not will depend on who you ask. Oppenheimer tho, was not evil, although extremely naive, sure. I think a majority of them were. But that's why research is done, because we are naive.

Ok hindsight Harold, the war was about to go for ages if not for that and axis powers were already developing an atomic bomb so it was bound to happen difference being to whom. Today's Nagasaki is not filled with radioactivity because they didn't want that, they could have easily made soil and land radioactive by just timing such that it would explode on impact. It's easy to talk shit when you don't know what that means and I hopefully gave you some knowledge about that.
@Swifty_cheese Жыл бұрын
@@sp4rklsz what the fuck are you talking about? yes the project started as a race to end the war with the axis, but the european members had capitulated before the trinity test and japan was no where near achieving nuclear capability. there was no longer a need to actually drop a nuke on civilians anymore, except for the sorry as fuck excuse of "ending the war faster". oppenheimer literally said this in the video you just watched. the japanese fleet had been decimated and almost the entirety of the pacific islands were captured, which is how the united states actually dropped the bomb in the first place, by building a runway on a local island. the war was going to end no matter what, the true matter was the number of soldiers who would have died in the mainland invasion. you dont have to agree, but i think killing civilians as a threat of force is just fucking barbaric and equates to genocide of the highest order. it doesnt matter what japan was doing, answering genocide with genocide is not acceptable, the ends do not justify the means. why are we all of a sudden huge fans of american "scorched earth" policy when it comes to world war 2?

22:33 neutrons doesn't have any polarity so it doesn't matter in this case. The "polarity stuff" was because like Veritasium said, before we knew about neutrons, physicians tried to kickstarting it by lauching a huge flood of electrons onto nucleis with the hope of 1 electron getting through that polarity barrier and splitting the nuclei. When they discovered neutrons, polarity didn't really matter anymore.
@zuzusuperfly8363 Жыл бұрын
They used protons. Electrons are very poorly suited because the energy they carry is just so much smaller. You'll get a reaction, but it'll be of a fundamentally different sort. Maybe you just create ions, maybe you just cause various reactions. Maybe a proton suddenly becomes a neutron. You're not splitting the nucleus.

You're hoping the electron hits the target instead of interacting with 94 other electrons per atom in the case of plutonium. Why?
@mongolitosking9739 Жыл бұрын
@@zuzusuperfly8363 all I am saying is that having an electron going 10^4 faster than the proton would allow it to start the reaction, major problem would be quantum physics at such speed too. Interactions would most likely make it impossible, even if we do not consider collisions with matter

one thing that many do not realize is that just one or two weeks of conventional bombing alone would kill as many people as one of the nukes did, and there would have been MONTHS of bombing before a potential Japanese surrender, without the nukes there would actually have been so much more destruction and so much more death that alot of Japan would have been unsalvageable for decades. there would have been hundreds of thousands of deaths on both the american side and the japanese side and it likely would have been some of the most brutal fighting of the entire war if the invasion of mainland japan had actually happened. it was estimated by military leaders of the time that the invasion “would cost at a minimum one quarter of a million casualties, and might cost as much as a million, on the American side alone, with an equal number of the enemy.” and that potential one million deaths that the enemy could suffer did not include civilian collateral damage.

one thing THAT people like you don't realise, is everything you just typed is entirely speculation.
@gasad013742 ай бұрын
@ it is an estimation based on factual evidence, such as the bombing of Tokyo which killed nearly 100,000 people and injured another 1,000,000… one single attack that took place in just a few hours caused 1.1 million casualties. This was ONE DAY of bombing, just this one single air raid killed more than the nuke dropped on Nagasaki did. Oh and there is also the fact that the allies conventional bombing before the nukes had already killed more than both the nukes combined.

XQC is honestly in my opinion the best reactor in the internet by far. He's always concentrate in the content in front of him, and listen to all of it, and then even engage in conversation and arguments about it, further elevate the content and give some thought on it not just brain deadly reacting to it like others.

For the record, most if those killed in the bombs WEREN'T civilians. These were military towns whose sole purpose was to serve the war effort, all production went towards it.
